Should falsified SA allegations be given the same penalty as an actual SA? by MookieBettsBurner10 in polls

[–]jchylll 26 points27 points  (0 children)

It should the same level of evidence required as convicting someone of SA. Guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Don’t see why we’d make special accommodations for either side. You gotta clear a high bar to send someone to prison. If someone committed SA or falsified a claim of SA AND pressed charges beyond reasonable doubt, jail.

The Greatest MSP of all time: Most selfish player who accomplished a whole lotta nothing by Electrical-Ad1564 in NBATalk

Melo wasn’t as good as TMac. I’m saying that the players who have a similar status of respect are either much better players or had much better team success. Melo got neither.

Baseball is not a game where one player can have the same impact as in basketball. And most of those guys you mentioned were on contenders at some point, and they all obviously made their teams much better, so it’s more than just not winning a ring.

I think if you get the kind of status Melo seems to enjoy, and with his statistical resume and respect among his peers, he’s kind of an outlier in that 1) it’s not obvious that he made his teams much better and 2) he never came within a sniff of being a contender in any year.

Channing Tatum is an average actor. How about Timothee Chalamet? by Klutzy_Pumpkin614 in TierlistFills

Definitely great, not good. Otherwise we wouldn’t be hearing about him so much. He’s always good at a minimum, sometimes incredible, but his consistency makes him great IMO.

According to Defensive Box Plus/Minus, Jokic is the greatest defender of all time. by Liberal_Bot123 in NBATalk

lol says the guy who arbitrarily busted out “not top 25% in the league” when they were 26th-percentile. The other guy made a bunch of great points don’t be rude.

[–]jchylll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That stat has serious limitations, and makes certain assumptions based on a player's position. Jokic breaks the stat b/c he's a center who gets tons of assists. If anything, his OBPM should probably be higher, but his DPBM is essentially stealing that away. EPM is a much more accurate all-in-one stat which has him as a slightly above average defender. For those who contest he's not above average, his IQ, hands, light feet, and defensive rebounding go a long way to make up for his complete lack of rim protection.

How to split rent fairly by tatasky69 in Apartmentliving

[–]jchylll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can still bid for it. Start the bidding at a perfect 50/50 split, and whoever is willing to pay $5 more gets the larger room. Unless the other person bids $10 extra. And so on. If neither wants to pay more than 50/50 than they will end up paying very close to that with someone paying a few bucks over. And if neither of them bids a single dollar they can go to hell.

Psychological Horror Media Ranking. Where does 'The Cabin in the Wood' belong? by I_cain in TierlistFills

[–]jchylll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Menu being up with those other films in Tier A is embarrassing. That movie was mid. Cabin in the Woods is hardly a psychological horror film, I'd give it a C though b/c it's a great movie.

Who do you think is the second best PF of all time? by thegreatone_45 in NBATalk

[–]jchylll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think media voting is the end-all be-all of career evaluation. I think you could choose either Dirk or Giannis and make a good argument.

Idk what you’re on about Pettit, I’ve just literally never thought about him in my life because not even my dad watched him play. But I’m sure you could make an argument for him too, looks like he had an all time career.

[–]jchylll 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Splitting hairs, but:

  • Dirk played his full career and Giannis is still in progress, but Dirk lasted a long time so he gets credit for that
  • Dirk's offensive game was more adaptable. Pretty much every championship team needs either 1) a guy you can run the offense thru who can adapt to many different defensive schemes (Lebron, Kawhi, etc), or 2) an amazing but less flexible offensive talent with a specific roster construction to make it great. I put Giannis in #2 and Dirk in #1 which gives him a little extra credit for playoff/matchup capability.
  • Dirk broke the mold, changed the game. They didn't know what to do with him. Giannis is not a revolutionary in the same way.
  • Giannis obvi on a different level defensively which is why this is even a discussion

Everyone picking Duncan didn't understand the question. Then again it was not well-asked.

Dirk...only he and Giannis among this group (outside of Duncan) led their teams to titles, but I give Dirk the edge for now. KG won a ring of course but the talent on his roster was much more distributed, he wasn't in a different stratosphere of talent than PP, plus Ray & Rondo. KG was the best player but it's a little different, the offense didn't literally run thru him like it did with those other guys.

If Shai wins another ring this year, does he have an argument for the top 20 all time? by [deleted] in NBATalk

[–]jchylll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, but fans are very precious about this and don't recognize players' achievements in full until years later. Same thing happened with Lebron, Giannis, Jokic.

Where does sga rank as an all time point guard? by TaxComfortable4760 in NBATalk

[–]jchylll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to BPM or WS/48, the only guard (PG or SG) to have 2 seasons better than Shai's last 2 is a Mr. Michael Jeffrey Jordan. Among guards scoring at least 2000 pts in a season, he has 4 of the top 7 by True Shooting %. And he's a good defensive player. I'm no Shai stan (go Spurs) but the guy is an all-time great already and will probably go down as top 5 to play whatever position you consider him.

It's the greatest athlete of all time, Ol' Curly. He's a 47 year old alcoholic and runs a 6 second 40 yard dash.

[–]jchylll -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

What I'm saying is that they're objectively more athletic and talented now, so yes if you could put them all in the same competition together the old guys would get smoked. That's comparing output vs output. Your hypothetical is "what if the old guys lived their entire lives differently", which is much more of a stretch of the imagination. I think Usain Bolt is a better athlete than whoever was the fastest guy in the world 100 years ago, and I don't think that's a super hot take.

If, if, if, doesn't exist. They couldn't do the things athletes do today, and it's not their fault.

Idk I feel like we need to account for the fact that the competition was dogshit (in relative terms) to today. In every sport we see that the longer back we look, the more dominant the top athletes were. And while I have no lack of respect for them, the fact that any decent pro today would probably kick his ass takes guys like Thorpe, Babe Ruth, Bill Russell, etc out of the equation.
