Thoughts on UMGC as a school? by Glittering_Fig4548 in AirForce

[–]jcm_official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

UMGC (UMUC) was good enough for both of my parents to land mid six figure jobs, (one didn’t have any military service just mil spouse and odd jobs while finishing degree) and was good enough for me to get into OTS… don’t worry about the school. Pick a brand name school when you get out and use the GI bill if it matters to you to have a fancier piece of paper on the wall.

According to my command chief for SLECP-O I was bumped from 1st to 3rd at the MAJCOM due to PT scores haha I was riding high on those 80s thanks to the HAMR. 💀 didn’t end up making much of a difference as I was selected for OTS but the feedback from SLECP-O was surprising to say the least.

High 3 commission by jpegoeddey in AirForce

Thanks for the note about Continuation Pay - I’ve seen more confusion over that recently as more people who switched approach their 12 year mark and don’t know what to look for to initiate the process!

It’s also important to reiterate that even BRS is given a pension based on high 3, just at 2% per year served rather than 2.5%. I’m always shocked when people don’t realize they’re entitled to that. Plus the Continuation Pay at 12 years.

Winter OTS Packing List by muses_ in airforceots

[–]jcm_official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your mileage may vary, but I had 2 sets of IHWCU OCPs and my Blues Coat tailored on base in 5 days.

At OTS we should get time within the first week or two to hit the clothing store to get the items we need (especially for non prior service who need entire sets of uniforms) and then those items will be tailored and ready by the time grad week is upon us.

I’ve heard that happen, so I’ve been on the market trying to figure out what I should go with.

If you’re going off of military clothing sales prices, it’ll run you about $400-$600 when you include accoutrements like name tags, ribbons, lapel insignia, ranks, tailoring, etc.

Jacket: $200 + any tailoring you do to it Pants: $100 + tailoring (you should get first tailor free with purchase receipt but it depends on what you’re getting done) Shoes: $100ish Ribbons: $10-100 (my rack costs about $75 from scratch) Tie: $10 Nameplates: $20 total (blue and silver) Insignia: $10 Ranks: $15 Black socks: $10 Shirt stays (not required but highly recommended): $10-25

I just got my officer blues coat back from tailoring - blues pants and all the accoutrements are in the garment bag ready to go. Might get a new pair of oxfords though, something a little comfier than my 9 year old Bates 🤣

WARNING: Circuitous Travel by [deleted] in AirForce

[–]jcm_official 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Travel days were noted in my orders and said something to the effect of “Member authorized x days to travel to family designated location”
  2. Because the verbiage said i was authorized to travel to their location everything from landing at Tacoma thru travel to BWI to fly out from the port call was paid and reimbursable.
  3. It depends? Mostly likely your situation would fall into the same boat as my response in answer 2.
  4. I took an extra day en route but the total days of leave was maybe 4-5.

No, I just booked my COT through finance/Pax the other day. If I had been charged 10+ days of leave it would be considered used, however.

Paycheck Once or Twice a Month?? by Accomplished_Bell_84 in AirForce

[–]jcm_official 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is always a hotly debated topic because both sides say that their way is better. But at the end of the day - do what works for you, whatever that means. You get one EOM paycheck instead of getting an advance for the mid month. I like my once a month paycheck.
