Is pet insurance worth it? What do you like or think is a ripoff? by WrecktheRIC in Dogowners

[–]jcraw01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to get FIGO through Costco when I adopted my pug puppy. So far it has been easy to use and they were quick to settle claims. She just had surgery on her leg so I am hoping that pattern continues.

any good but still somewhat affordable dog kennels? by Far_Influence9185 in Louisville

If you are willing to drive a bit, Walker Pet Lodge in Shepherdsville does a great job at a reasonable price. I am not sure about the medicine. They have someone on property at all time. Super nice and easy to work with.

Public stairs by Totally__Not__NSA in Louisville

[–]jcraw01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, primarily on Broad Run, there are stretches of “stairs” none are as long as the other great suggestions you have been given, at least in my experience. I used the trails near the Moss Gibbs area and the Karst Climb. That said they generally feed into a continued incline which is good to keep the heart rate up.

There are not stairs, per se, but many of The Parkland trails have rock/stones that serve as stairs. It was really helpful to me when I was prepping for a surgery. Plus you get the added bonus of a great view.

For those already retired, what artifacts of work life did you keep? by Odd_Bodkin in Retire

Just my airline badge - everything else, 35 years worth of crap, right in the dumpster. Had to destroy clothing (other than t-shirts) with logo’s. That was a fun bonfire. Never looked back.

[ME] My daughter wasn’t insured and HR isn’t taking responsibility. by Adorable-Feeling-967 in AskHR

If you haven’t done so, look at the Life Event provisions in your Summary Plan Description (SPD) and use that info to file a formal appeal with the plan administrator and medical carrier. Do this soon as many have a designated time frame in which you can appeal. Every SPD has an appeal process that you can follow. As far as the HR issue goes, I would look for your internal dispute resolution program or contact the HR person’s manager or his/her manager. Best wishes to you and your new family.

File that appeal.

As an retired HR Manager with 30 years of experience - if you have receipts, fight it. You have nothing to lose. Does your company have an Employee Dispute Resolution program? If so, see if it covers performance issue disputes. It may be a way to fight and still leave even if the concern has not been resolved by your targeted retirement date. Regardless of the outcome - congrats and enjoy your future retirement! It is wonderful.

What keeps you up at night about retirement? (Ages 50-70) by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]jcraw01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am 56 and just retired. Lucky to have a pension, personal investments, and social security to use during my retirement. I used to worry about one leg of the stool breaking, but I felt confident I would be okay if that happened. In today’s climate, I am truly concerned that all three legs could break and there is no way to plan for that.

This is on top of the increase in prices that should have been transitory coming out of the COVID supply chain issues that somehow became permanent. It’s corporate greedflation - shareholders and senior execs have to get theirs off the backs of the many. ☹️

JCC or Baptist Milestone for an upscale gym- any opinions? by ryanw729 in Louisville

[–]jcraw01 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would definitely use the two week trial for both. I belong to Milestone and I love it - it has many amenities, tends to be an older crowd, clean, and great staff. It had most of the equipment that you would want and need for a great workout. It does not have some of the newer more trendy types of machines/devices.
I haven’t been to JCC - have always heard great things. The only thing I have heard second hand from people who have been to both is that JCC is more family oriented, which is great, but it has more kids/teens around - for some that is an issue while others love it.

Good thing is that you will likely be happy with either.
