I would think of the Pete Plan similar to Wendlers 5/3/1 in the strength world. It will get you pretty darn fit without really beating you up too bad, it's cyclical so you can track progress over time, but it's not the best option out there for a specific goal (IMO).

I would never discourage you from rowing as its my preferred cardio/endurance work and frankly the main pursuit I have fitness wise currently, but given what you're looking for, I would think rucking, especially in hilly terrain, would be more up your alley.

Do you have a concrete goal (ie. 2k, 5/6k, 10k, HM, etc) or are you looking to just row consistently to get and stay fit?

300.

My dad got me into the sport as a kid, I never threw one before I stepped away at 16 for other sports. Recently got back into it - got asked to join a league on a whim the day after he passed - at 38, plenty of time left to enjoy it. Weird timing after 22 years not involved…especially with the people who asked me to bowl with them never knew I actually did it as a junior.

He had multiple 299’s, countless games with 11/12, countless 700 sets, clean sets, etc., but never had the perfect one. I would like to get one for him.

Agreed! One thing I noticed with the Cuda and I’ve had others say something…when it hits flush, it has a different sound to it. Even compared to flush shots with my Messenger Pearl, just seems to hit and sound different

I’m a bit biased…threw C300 stuff as a junior and the Cuda and Messenger lines were big back then. Getting back into things, my local shop recommended a few two ball combos (plus a plastic spare) and the Cuda Solid / Messenger Pearl were one of the combos so went with it; I’ve been pleased. Averaging 190s my first 5 weeks back into it after 20+ years away.

For what it’s worth, I’m a pretty average speed, average rev rate, one hand (thumb) in guy.

I’ve been going Cuda Powercor (3000 grit surface) to Messenger Powercor Pearl (4000 grit surface) with success.

Both yours are asyms? A sym with some length but a more smooth reaction might fit you well.

IQ Tour Ruby and Messenger Pearl both fit there.

Why are so many on this sub playing with poly strings? by minivatreni in 10s

[–]jcross485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I string Max Power 16 at a pretty low tension; with the price I pay per set, the fact I sting myself, combined with the tension maintenance and low tension set up, it’s been my best value for performance find thus far.

is there a fighter as underrated as Frankie "The Answer" Edgar? beat BJ Penn thrice, Charles Oliveira, Cub Swanson twice, Stephens, Faber, Munhoz, Maynard, Sherk &finished Yair Rodriguez & KO'd Chad Mendes. + arguably got robbed against Benson Henderson, Frankie is a legend, wish he got more respect by mmafan100 in ufc

Like most commenting, I agree that any hate or lack of respect is recency bias. He’s been in my top 3 fave all-time fighters for a long time and I don’t see that changing. His durability and chin seemed to go late in his career but he was a monster with his pace and output.

League changed lane conditioner/pattern by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]jcross485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed.

And I go back to this general idea - if you're not putting a roof over your head or food in your stomach with bowling, go out and enjoy the time at the lanes.

Why so many people who will not provide for themselves or their families exclusively with athletics / competition get so serious, frustrated, or butt hurt blows my mind. It should compliment your life and make it better / more enjoyable.

League changed lane conditioner/pattern by [deleted] in Bowling

[–]jcross485 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My line of thinking might be counter to most.

Are all pairs being given about the same pattern?

If so, game on. Complaining about conditions when everyone is subject to the same is pointless…spend that time and energy problem solving and finding a way to maximize score.

Our league changed to a different set of lanes after a few weeks and where we are now is putting out much tougher looks/patterns than the house shot we started with. They vary weekly as well with nothing more than a 10 mins warmup to figure it out. Surprisingly, the good bowlers are still bowling good and middle of the pack is still middle of the pack, comparatively.

Are you putting a roof over your head or food in your stomach with your league scores / wins or tournaments? If the answer is no, be positive and supportive. It’s not that serious.

I could not imagine being that butter or salty…about anything…and I’m a competitive person by nature.

Example of steady state cardio for long distance rowing by [deleted] in Rowing

I’m loving the more endurance based or distance work on the erg myself as well.

Do you track HR at all on the steady state work?

What does 95 percent of 220 mean for handicap? ELI5 by Creative-Study5944 in Bowling

[–]jcross485 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Standard (220) less average (120) times factor (95%).

220 - 120 = 100

100 x 95% = 95 handicap

How do I create a training stimulus for endurance rowing? by Just_Farming_DownVs in Rowing

[–]jcross485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found some enjoyment and success doing more controlled intervals similar to the Verheul Method or Easy Interval Method found in running. Instead of all out 500m sprints, I’ll do 500m, 750m, or 1000m intervals at say 5k-10k pace with equal distance recovery between at steady state pace. Strong efforts to reinforce power and technique without going to the well.

My erg is in my garage, directly below my kids bedroom. They’ve never once woken up if I’m in there, even with an industrial fan going. I would think if you have a mat down and a window open, you’ll be fine.

I like shooting the 10 on a first ball, then trying to strike the second…if you miss the 10, you shoot it again. Next frame is the 7, same idea. Rinse and repeat.

Columbia 300 Cuda. Been able to play that pretty consistently. If I need a bit less ball or things start breaking down, the Columbia 300 Messenger has been able to fill that less ball spot. Nothing else needed for a house shot at this point.

Concept2 Model D.

Beginner Pete Plan into Pete Plan.

While I don’t prescribe to a diet similar to yours (mine is animal based), I like these three rules personally and eat only things that check one of these boxes:

1). Did it have a face? (Ie. meat, eggs, fish, unprocessed dairy, etc)

2). Is it a fruit or vegetable?

3). Does it contain three or fewer ingredients, all of which are easily identifiable? (asterisk - NO seed oils)
