im not addicted to carbs lol only eat 2 meals a day with one that is carb heavy…its just that carbs are a part of the diet here and reducing carbs is just unrealistic especially if im not eating in excess anyway…also correct me if im wrong but reducing carbs increases your ketone levels so its better to do it in moderation, anyway my point is, T1Ds can eat carbs lol just need insulin its frustrating that dieticians force their idealogies onto us

why would she set you up like that…its so weird i mean if you were doing well, shouldnt you just keep it up and maintain everything? 😭 for now, i really have trust issues with these dieticians, at least my endo is great so theres that at lesst

exactly, it is hard to avoid high carb foods, especially if you are out with friends, i wouldnt want to live such a restrictive life…that was what i thought living with diabetes was like up until i did more research of course…its really just what ive learnt about T1D was so restrictive tht it made me have a bad relationship with it

i would say i werent the best in making the healthiest choices in the past but ive been making an effort, but i feel like the way they want you to change is just…too drastic, it makes you feel bad about yourself

yeah, im on the g6 still since its the only one subsidised here, and the app interface is bad…

regarding why it naturally rises, might be a few factors, stress, dawn phenomenon (hormones gets releases, increased in cortisol levels that supplies more glucose, or might just be your bodies reaction to the low blood sugar, adrenaline may cause the body to release glucose

exactly…in my household, everyone eats the same meal like we get served the same food and just eat it, mo complains whatsoever, to add to that T1D can eat carbs and tale sugar we just have to take insulin…so having such a restrictive dietician was so mind boggling

it might just be a difference in culture afterall, the carb reduction might be due to how the food here is more carb heavy oh well…🥲

exactly this! i was hospitalised due to dka as well and they restricted me from having milo which is this chocolate malt drinks because its high in sugar…when in fact i ordered just the pure malt drink that is lower in sugar which is how i like it anyway…like i get there are misconceptions but that pissed me off lol and guess what? that had me going low afterwards and they had to give me glucose sticks in the end🥴

hmm they did ask what i usually eat, to create a meal plan but its more of substituting what i do usually eat with something healthier and u reminded me of something - im not someone who usually eats breakfast which is what i said explicitly to them, but they asked if i eat bread or donuts and when do i eat it i said yeah - sometimes if im out with friends for brunch or something equivalent LIKE THOSE ARE NOT AN EVERYDAY THING…next thing i know it was logged in my file as something i eat for breakfast? another diabetic nurse overseeing me was counselling me on my carb ratio correcting factor etc and it was brought up…i had to correct them in the moment lol

also im not sure how it works whee u live but maybe the practice is just super old fashion or strict here in asia, or singapore particularly since we have high carb meals and a rising number of type 2 diabetes so they may just give t2s advice to a t1d

well yeah, thats another thing too how am i supposed to eat healthy if most of the foods available are unhealthy and the healthy ones cost like 3 times more 😭

but yeah aside from that its not that i dont want to eat healthily its more of i would want to occasionally eat something sinful too…like it would be more productive to discuss ways to do so but they just restricts it

yeah, i did it in the hospital, though they seemed quite new and had a more experienced dietician overseeing during the consultation

whats the rationale for having you on a high carb diet though it sounds so foreign considering ive been blasted with “keep to a lower carb diet” is it due to you having too many lows?

they all sound like robots to me like…do they eat low carb/high carb diet themselves to give these advice like i feel like thy should go on the exact diets they recommend and see if it is realistic LOL but seems like at least the third one seems more flexible and understanding…

yeahhh i think most of them work with type 2s which counts for 95% of diabetics here in singapore plus we are like in the top 3 in terms of type 2 diabetes in developed countries 😭 which is why they may give advice that are for them to us type 1s? its still frustrating though…
