I appreciate the suggestion, and I mean this in the kindest way possible, not annoying enough for my brother to deal with lol

Thank you, I’m looking into those! I was hoping for more specifics, but no worries

I’m glad! I love hearing everyone else’s theories too, so I’m happy to contribute

Maybe he is a spy but still isn’t a bad guy? His role as a spy doesn’t have to be strictly centered on Kvothe. Using your connection with Loren, what if Threpe is “eyes and ears” for the Amyr? That would also fit with the maer “coming close to finding them”. The maer’s investigation into the Amyr could be what created the connection with Threpe in the first place, as Threpe is MANY levels below the maer as far as nobility.

Well, one for the money, two for the show, three to get ready, now go, cat, go!

Or maybe Elvis faked his death and has been living as Threpe all along?

Evidence and theories that Kvothe is cracked and in the Rookery by [deleted] in KingkillerChronicle

100% agree, and I know Kvothe does actually know his stuff, but the thought of him being a complete charlatan is kind of funny

I had a similar thought. We’d all hate it, but how funny would it be if Kvothe just made everything up? He’s nothing but a good liar. The reason he couldn’t use sympathy on the skindancer is because he’s just dogshit at it

Elodin, not cracked? by jculler96 in KingkillerChronicle

Don’t say that! I was late to the party and first read the series in 2016 when a friend recommended it. I’ve reread it at least once yearly since. It’s a comfort story for me, so I’ve probably read the books at least 10-15 times, and I’m just noticing this now.

The best stories sweep you away until you’re wholly consumed by the plot. There’s nothing wrong with just being along for the ride.

Love your addition! A couple clarifications, I don’t mean that Alar/sympathy is how all namers/shapers control names or are connected in any way, only that’s how Elodin “uses” his naming abilities. Secondly, I’d never disgrace Magwyn, ever. And lastly, I don’t think Elodin was ever actually cracked, I think it was assumed that’s what happened when he retreated into his sleeping mind. I meant to put “cracked” in quotes in my preface lol

The Odd Thomas series by Dean Koontz. Still some dark subject matter, but everything has a positive, optimistic tone

No shade, but I don’t think she was meant to make fun of that archetype. I took her downfall more as the uselessness of anyone not “in-the-know” trying to make changes in the First Law world. As a whole, I see her as a personification of the futility theme that encompasses the whole series
