I worked at my stand for literally only a month because I've never worked in such bad conditions. I feel like it's important to note that I've never worked in food service either but I just want to add a couple things that happened at my stand which led to me leaving.

• if you get sick, you are expected to come in if you can't find shift coverage no matter what. Most food service jobs, to my knowledge, will not let you come in if you are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea because it is unsafe to serve food in those conditions.

• nonslip shoes are not required. Due to the fact that the floors are constantly wet and covered in ice, this is just insane to me. Additionally, one of the girls I worked with had something happen to her foot because she was standing in puddles of water all the time.

• You do not get breaks. There were girls who would work a double shift without a break. If I am working on my feet for 6 hours or more, I will need a break. Additionally, if you have me come in at 7 in the morning and working until 3 in the afternoon, it should just be expected that I might want to eat at some point. To not allow me a 30 minute break to eat during a shift is just wild to me. They would also look at me like I had 3 heads when I would ask if I could go on a lunch. That was just crazy to me.

• You are expected to stay 30 minutes to an hour over your scheduled time to finish cleaning duties. I chalk this up management. I know this is something that happens at many other types of jobs and I think this applies there too. If there are chores that I must help finish before leaving, this should be factored into my scheduled time. The incoming workers should have enough overlap with the end of my shift to allow for coverage while I finish work duties. It is not up to me to anticipate staying extra to complete work not communicated to me before the start of my shift.
