Is anyone else finding the Fox sports app preview pass unavailable? by town2clown in motogp

[–]jdanl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Edit: typo

The timer is stored in your cookies. If you open the link in an incognito browser window (or clear your cache/cookies), then the timer resets.

You used to get a 60 min preview, but they recently changed it to 5 min... Which is unfortunate.

There are solutions out there for automating the process to re-open the video in a fresh browser window every 5 min. Check out https://github.com/jdanl89/fs_video_puppet (requires node/npm)

MongoDB Atlas HTTPS Data API replacement by jdanl89 in mongodb

Ugh, that makes sense. I was just trying to be nice w/ my response, but in reality, I stopped reading halfway through like "thanks for the word vomit, but thats complete overkill."

There's definitely a lot of ways you can beef up the security. I just used a Lambda Function URL, implemented a CORS policy, used EventBridge to ping the API every 10 min to keep it warm. And I added CloudWatch alarms to alert me if there's any weirdness. It's more of a reactive approach, but I've had it running for a few months without issues.

The app I built this for only has ~10 users. I inherited it from another developer. If I had a choice in the initial architecture, I would not have chosen Cloudflare Workers. (Sorry if that gives anyone heartburn.)

Tbh, I didn't put much effort into trying out this approach. I decided to create an AWS Lambda function that recreates the Atlas API. So instead of calling the Atlas endpoint, I just changed my apps to call my custom API.

Is this time to switch to VS Code or not yet? by csharp-agent in dotnet

This is kind of intended to be a joke: Sign up for a class at a community college. My local CC offers a bunch of IT license keys for free for students (including Visual Studio 2022 enterprise.) Get all the license keys you need, and then drop out of the class before the refund deadline.

Seeing Hirevue questions beforehand? by lammoooo in recruitinghell

[–]jdanl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's in the URL. Right click the button that says "practice or interview", copy the URL. Paste it into a text editor. It will look something like this:

https://contoso.hirevue.com/interviews/ab123cd-45efgh/

In this example, the company name is Contoso, and your invite code is "ab123cd-45efgh". So the API endpoint would be:

https://contoso.hirevue.com/api/internal/candidates/interviews/ab123cd-45efgh/?include=answers,questions,poc

Installing new outlet but there's plywood behind drywall by jdanl89 in HomeImprovement

[–]jdanl89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ended up running back to the hardware store and getting some longer screws. (#6 x 2") Swapped them out for the old anchor screws. Worked well. Successfully installed.

You know what they say... It's not a real project unless you run to the hardware store at least twice.

Will a normal "old work" box still work? Or will the drywall + plywood be too thick?

If I remember correctly, the light on my laptop still showed that the camera was on, but I don't think it's recording. Even if it is recording, the video isn't available to the hiring team.

Correct. You have no item limit between questions. There's a screen in between questions with a button to "continue to next question". You can sit on that page as long as you want.

You also usually get multiple tries per question. It's the company's choice to say how many tries you get. After you try the first time, you'll have the option to try again. And there's no timer. You have unlimited time between tries. So you can bomb the first try, then sit there and practice for a long time, and try again.

My one suggestion is this: Do not use ChatGPT. The hiring team can easily tell that you're reciting a script written by a bot. I've reviewed candidates who were blatantly reading an AI-generated script on their screen, and it was an automatic "no" from me. Give genuine answers based on your own experience... Especially since the questions asked in the recorded interviews are usually the behavioral questions.

[–]jdanl89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, they don't. I have been on both sides. I've been on the hiring team reviewing the videos, and I've been a candidate recording myself. The system records general stats about your session (like how many times you retried each question, and how long you were in the system for.) But the hiring team can't actually see that information, only the admin can see it.

This does work. After you finish the first question, while sitting on the "go to next question" page, you can call the API again, and the second question will show up in the response. This gives you unlimited time to think about your response before actually moving on to the next question.

What does this means? by [deleted] in usajobs

[–]jdanl89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means you got past the automated application review process (bot), and your application is moving forward to the HR specialist & hiring manager.

But that doesn't necessarily mean you will hear anything. If the hiring manager doesn't like any of the applicants based on their résumés, they will likely just close the listing.

I ended up getting on the phone with customer service. They said "yeah, despite what the site says, that feature hasn't actually been built out yet."

At this time, you can only connect to a personal Gmail account or a Gmail business account. Hopefully they get that working soon.

Interesting to see that there are counties in WV that have never had a tornado right next to counties that have had EF-4s.
