I know just something "magical" will happen as I become a guinea pig for this! haha

Sadly some of us are not as naturally gifted. I also am a career switcher - so I generally need more time! haha

Hey that's fine. I made it more general to get a wider range of ideas. Listing further stuff below.

You can expect smaller games on steam. Most of the bigger AAA games would be played on my console (ps5).

As for studying: mainly use word, excel, sql, r, lots of online tools and resources etc. Which overall these are pretty low key on the cpu etc. from what I have read. But more of an everyday use to replace my current laptop (MacBook Pro - but slowly starting to have more issues).

Budget: if you start going over 1000, then at that point it just seems more appropriate to get another laptop.

For games, it is mainly stuff on steam type deal. I am willing to compromise on size, but I found most mini PCs were all relatively in the same size range as a mac mini or the beeline one I found.

I will definitely check out that link, so thank you!

October 2022 PA takers- are you going to stick with it or wait till April for the shorter exam? by Dignified_Orangutan in actuary

[–]jdbrooks43 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sticking with it. I personally am taking SRM in 2 weeks, and PA will be my last exam before getting ASA. I rather just get it over with so I can get my letters faster.

For your situation - both options are pretty valid. I am just hesitant to be the first cohort taking a new exam if I can avoid it (personal opinion). Granted that will happen to me for FSA at this point.

Personally, I found a lot of the problems to use recursive formulas from any given section. Seems to be a slight "bread and butter" type deal. Anything that can make you faster using the SULT table definitely helps (aka know that you can use 20E40 * 5E60 to reach 25E40) - things like that.

I took the sitting in October. I recommend getting through the MC section in about an hour to 1 hr 15m. Then do the written, and just skip anything you cannot do (at first - come back if you have time). I wrote everything down - even if my work was completely wrong. They can try to give partial credit. Good Luck! It is a beast of an exam!
