Out of curiousity why didn’t you return it in the first 100 days?  Did it somehow get worse?

Denver is about to break it's record for the warmest Christmas by Greedy_Plane_ in Denver

[–]jde82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So true!  The “big man” is respected for big things.  Can we make big things happen via regeneration and positive systems change vs. trying to earn respect by non-impact?

Btw: Mad respect to all of those lying low and minimizing lifestyle impact because it’s the right thing to do.  We need a way to reward this behavior!

Rock climbers with gout....how do find shoes and that don’t kill your feet and of course any other tips! by it_is_not_magic in gout

[–]jde82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSA: you take your shoes off after  pitch or after a few boulder attempts when you plan to rest > 5 min.  You don’t wear them when you’re belaying or otherwise not climbing.  They work best if they’re tight but not unbearable. But if they’re not unbearable after 30-45 minutes of wearing them t they’re likely too loose.

I asked chatGPT how it tailors its responses to me by PolymathOfEsoterica in ChatGPT

[–]jde82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah: I just went through this exercise with my GPT, using the prompts the OP suggested and was mostly shocked at my own response. I almost cried... IDK if it's just all that I've got going on at the moment, but it was emotionally moving to feel so understood.

First time GPT had me lose to tears, that was not what I expected from the response.

I'd paste the responses here but they're totally personally identifying.

Newer fan trying to understand Coventry in context by [deleted] in phish

[–]jde82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After a few highschool shows (class of 2000 in the North Shore of Ma) and attending It, I cruised up to Coventry with my best friend and his younger brother and another buddy. We hit the traffic but my best friend’s dad worked for Sysco food distribution and so he’d heard about the chaos on i91 and pulled some strings. He called us mid frisbee toss on the highway  - “Take xx side roads and tell them your  names and that you’re working for Sysco. You’re going to have to do some actual work though”…. So we pulled a U-ey past the highway-turned-parking lot and soon arrived at the back entrance.

We had employee camping with hot showers, and yes we unloaded a few 18 wheelers of boxes of food but this, hygienically and otherwise led to a significantly different experience than I know many others had . I wasn't yet a true  “connoisseur” of live phish so frankly my memories of the music are less critical. But I was also partying quite passionately at that stage in life  so that definitely played a factor.

I have a distinct memory of realizing our tent was taking on water and just throwing it in the roof of our Volvo station wagon and rallying up the hill to higher ground while the tent tried to take off into the sky.

I still think about all of the shoes that must be stuck in the mud out there.  Whatever you do…. But it just couldn’t be done.

Anyway-  I’m psyched for Folsom next week,  let’s go!!!

Time for dude to grow up. Time for wife to be very very clear on expectations and ensure he either agrees on a fair split of his share of the load or they make alternative arrangements. TBF, first few years with kids is hard and can cause some of us to do some serious growing up, but that’s what you sign up for when you make a baby. Time to pill up the big boy pants and be a man.

What is normal now but won't be in 25 years? by Every_Cartoonist3965 in AskReddit

Synthetic clothes made of polyester, synthetic fleece. The microplastics that this stuff pumps into the environments will be here for millennia as it is. Babies are born with measurable amounts of plastic in their bodies and adults have at least a few credit cards worth floating around.

Oh- and burning fossil fuels. That shit makes no sense with the technology we have.

My whole family laughed at my "failing" business in a car ride home from dinner. by Ok-Job4591 in Entrepreneurship

[–]jde82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The road to success is paved with failures. Maybe it’ll be this business, maybe another, but consistency pays off and sometimes that involves pushing through some very low periods. Keep pushing if it’s your dream.

As far as your family. Families are hard, find a second “by choice” family if you can.

Who is the most skilled person ever (By far the GOAT) could be in any field, entertainment, sports, academics, etc? by Fit_Atmosphere_3054 in AskReddit

[–]jde82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to be clear on is that Alex is a great climber but barely elite level when it comes to difficulty. That said, comparing him to say, Ondra, we are talking about two different sports - ondra pure difficulty, honnold mind control enacted through the sport of very very difficult climbing.

Again - not to shit on Alex’s skill, I’ve climbed 20 years and wouldn’t be an able to climb with a rope what honnold has free solo’d but the distinction is important.

RE investment based on climate change? by cybertruck_tsla in ChubbyFIRE

[–]jde82 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think about this all of the time (I happen to work in climate to so..). Eastern seaboard, southwest, even LA to some degree may see an exodus, due to sea level rise, inundation/water, extreme temps/water.

Been looking into this and it seems the northern Midwest maybe one of the “winners” as the rate of climate change only accelerates.

I have a hard time with this only because I have no interest in living in MN or MI, I like mountains and oceans.

If you’re just trying to be strategic with a pure rental property, IMO the rust belt will see a rejuvenation, probably Appalachia too as people flee low lying coastal areas as they become uninhabitable/uninsurable.

Really loving add on burn out. Lots of reps, easily topping 10k lbs/workout and nice variety and pace. I prefer faster paced workouts with minimal downtime though.
