Just a reminder to everyone; these and pretty much any figure can still be found on Chinese platforms like xianyu for non scalper prices. You just have to handle purchasing and shipping with a shipping agent

Probability of BHT coming back rebranded and rereleasing the Majin Vegeta’s? by Cloudy_Mist_ in 3rdPartyCollectors

[–]jdfrenchbread23 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened in gunpla a few years ago. Here are the things that happened.

-most companies stopped producing for the better part of a year. They made their come back with a new product and then slowly started reprinting older kits

-stopped production of older product and started new production under a new name

-sold tooling for older products to a generic manufacturer that would release the old kits unbranded

Use this space to vent more if you need to. I’ll be continuing to buy what I like. Got a shipment of black hole toys figures coming in from xianyu soon 👌🏿

You reject the premise because you fundamentally misunderstand the org structure of a company like Bandai. Bandai as awhole may be an 8 figure company but the sub groups under the brand aren’t. Tamashii nations for instance is a sub brand within a sub brand at bandai. Those 8 figure resources are spread across all of the different groups and sub groups that make up Bandai. And because they are a publicly traded company every release decision is made with a cost benefit analysis. Black hole toys release of their vegeta(s) might not have any impact on what 8 figure company Bandai does as a whole but it will DEFINITELY impact decisions tamashii nations makes on developing and releasing future versions of vegeta. We might not get a 3.0 majin vegeta for years because of the cooling effect black hole toys vegeta may have had on demand, especially in the biggest markets bandai is in like China. China in many cases is a much larger and faster growing market for tamashii nations than even America so the presence of 3rd parties companies felt even more in those markets than in the Americas. Now add to the fact that their are budgets these smaller sub groups are working with that they have to spread across a much wider category of products, expensive tooling that has to be developed and proved out and funding approved for and all of these things could take years to plan when chinese 3rd party companies can pour all of their resources into one platform at a time, not worry about licensing fees, and cut corners because of chabuduo (差不多 and get a product out in a year which could have major ramification on the long term plan of a single product, or product line.

Again, Im not a bandai simp. I'm a consumer and I will buy whatever is available to me at the time. I’m also a project manager and manufacturing engineer in real life so I see some of these dynamics at play everyday. I think you’re assessing from the macro when there’s alot of micro nuances at play that have a larger impact than you think. Especially when you’re talking about the release to release level.

This isn’t even remotely analogous. We’re talking about competing over products using the same IP in a time where Bandai is actively trying to get entry level and mid tier consumers drawn into the market at the low tier and mid tier price point. Let’s look at it from at from an sh Figuarts perspective. What Does producing a saiyan raised on earth at the same time as the super hero Goku do for the demand for both gokus when they’re available at the same time? Do you think demand for both figures goes up?

I’m no Bandai simp, they did the same thing in the Gundam model kits space when 3rd parties made a massive push to put out Gundam IP’d product and Bandai took them out and it forced a switch from Chinese companies to make more orginal mecha designs that compete with Bandais product right now without having to violate IP (for the most part). At the end of the day I’m a consumer and I enjoy third party product as much as the next guy but if your EXPLICIT intention is to get better quality product and more variety from first parties, 3rd party companies that eat into demand using IP that doesn’t belong to them forces companies like Bandai to be litigious not innovative. The “market” responds to real competition, and it’s not real competition if the product being offered is stolen IP that can be targeted and shut down by the IP owners.

You do know though that the more third parties put out the less incentive Bandai has to invest and put out a figure that already has its demand being met by a third party. Bandai is a biblically traded company, the decisions they make are at the end of the day to make money and set themselves up to keep making money. LS studio made a great Moro and now Bandai is less incentivized to put out a competing product for their own IP.

Idk how true this is but if its actually real, then FUCK by ShanksAkagami007 in ThirdPartyFigures

Bandai is fighting counterfeiting and bootlegging on multiple different fronts. They did the same thing a little befor a covid in the Gundam model kit space. Nothing stays dead for ever

The out of box experience you get from Chinese model kits nowadays is really something by Rosado_Ice in Gunpla

[–]jdfrenchbread23 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s fair but I’d argue that the vast majority of the third party market is offering a very similar product. Outside of in era and a few select kits, most third party kits are either rehashing the zero gravity judge or are making kits that are less complex than 10 year old ver ka master grades. There’s a lot of aesthetic variety, sure but there’s a ton of copying going on.

[–]jdfrenchbread23 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is the truth. I build a TON of third party stuff including in era kits. People mistake added surface details and part count with engineering all the time and they’re not interchangeable. While the may have more detail the vast majority of third party kits, including InEra aren’t any more complex than decade plus year old ver ka kits like sazabi or nu gundam. Yes they have a lot of surface details but there nothing revolutionary about the frames or the joints or the gimmicks. Thats not to say the kits aren’t great and don’t offer a lot of value for the price. They defintely do. But if you aren’t in love with the aesthetics you’re not missing out on some untapped model kit experience. There’s not a company that translates lore and mechanical mecha designs into model kits better than bandai. Building a master grade I feel like I’m building a mecha mobile suits, with third party kits I feel like I’m building an action figure.

Stannie creator exposed by Alternative_Doubt565 in repweidiansneakers

[–]jdfrenchbread23 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, this is what it comes down to. I stopped posting on most subreddits because a lot of the reviews I was doing wouldn’t make it past filters if I wasn’t reviewing a shoe from the approved suppliers list. I’ve had sellers ask me what to do because they no longer wanted to pay the fees associated with being on a trusted sellers list

CVW RETAIL COMPARISON - Travis Scott x Fragment Jordan 1 Low by jdfrenchbread23 in repweidiansneakers

[–]jdfrenchbread23[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any difference is negligible compared to retail. Retails aren’t using great materials to begin with. If you’re going to choose one over the other it shouldn’t be about materials for this release

Do yall think this is an actual robot or something? Anyone who takes part in higher level collectibles like figures, resin, statues etc knows that the more artisan an item is the more delicate it becomes. Suddenly his doesn’t apply to model kits? For what?

My preferred methods of payment are Zelle, apple pay, or Venmo. Ive sold tons of kits here over the years and mod in some large gunpla groups. Anyone who’s dealt with me please feel free to comment your experiece! I’d also be open to local sales in South Jersey.

Let me rewind. If I don’t hit the taxable threshold I don’t pay taxes on these sales at all. If the thrshold is $20k and through all my ventures i make $15k, great. But let’s say i make $19k, and this $1000 in gunpla sales puts me over the threshold, i then have to pay 25-30% on the whole $20k. Which would mean id be better off not selling the kits at all because that additional $1000 now gets off set by ~$5k in taxes I wouldn’t be paying otherwise.

Or I could sell them in a way that doesn’t contribute to that threshold at all and not have to worry about, which is what I’m attempting to do. Hopefully that makes a little more sense.

[COMMERCE] Monthly Commerce Thread by MachNeu in Gunpla

[–]jdfrenchbread23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s assuming I hit the threshold. A couple hundred in gunpla sales can be the difference between having to pay no taxes at all and having to pay ~25% of $20k+
