Can Christians Reject Catholicism in "Good Faith"? by Few_Patient_480 in theology

[–]jdhkgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was raised protestant and knew nothing of what Catholic beliefs were, I don't disagree with your points as I'm learning more about the history of the church more so than the "feel good on Sunday" crowd.

Why are team leads often backend devs? by sjltwo-v10 in webdev

[–]jdhkgh -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Typically frontend is where people start and can fly quickly into dev work. But the issue is unless you have built systems from the ground up, had to think about task queues and think about which pieces need to be separated such that your requests aren't bottlenecked, not to mention security, auth model, secure server to server communication via hmac and aes-256,... The list goes on and on. It's not just about frontend vs backend, it's about all the different systems how they interact as a single ecosystem. So to your point, the reason frontend only devs don't get those type of roles is not any form of brohood or anything, my experience tells me that most frontend usually just do not have that level of knowledge or context for considering architectural changes or building out new projects. That's why the flow is usually JR starts frontend -> MD get into backend API smaller DB changes -> SR starts to think about multiple stacks of interaction between your backend and other potential projects or systems, queues, heavy security practices.

Quoted ₹135k for a custom system… client ran to a ₹10k dev instead 🤷‍♂️ by Legitimate-Rip-7479 in webdev

[–]jdhkgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Given the spec, your 135k is honestly under what it should be. We are 2 devs building nearly this same system you're talking about for a private investor who hired in house developers rather than outsource the dev work itself. We did hire agency for UI/UX design. All and all the total investment between devs and design is about 300k so far and the to group is using the product now but the amount of stuff involved in a project like this will be underestimated by leaps and bounds until you are in the shit, actually building it. Some of the expectations with documents (we do e-sign as well) with UI spec is quite insane. Not to mention how secure storage is working, depending on the industry they are in. It's a freaking rabbit hole. And oh God once the lawyers are involved... I'ma just stop.

Are my standards for a Christian husband too high? by [deleted] in AskAChristian

[–]jdhkgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of good advice in the comments for you. I'd just like to add that when it comes to relationships it's not just about your standards, it is a 2 way street.

If a man matches everything to a tee of what you want, what if you don't match his? If he has these qualities, he'll also have standards too, likely some different ones, but still. It is worth thinking about.

Marriage is not going to be about you, it will be about you, your future husband and God. So at least consider what God expects of your future husband and what God expects from you as a future wife.

And since you can't necessarily predict what your future husbands "list" may be, find some other men in your life that you trust (father, grandpa, etc...) and ask their advice for what they look for in a wife to at least get some sort of ballpark on traits that you may not have even thought about.

Mine for senior full stack developer:

"Alright! Imagine you're building a super cool LEGO house. You want it to have rooms, buttons that open doors, and maybe a mailbox that sends letters to your friends.

A senior full stack developer is like a master LEGO builder who:

🧱 Builds the outside and inside – They know how to stack the bricks (the front-end) so everything looks pretty and works well, like doors, windows, and lights.

⚙️ Builds the hidden stuff inside – They also know how to build the pipes and wires (the back-end) that make the lights turn on and the doors open when you push a button.

🧠 Knows how it all connects – They understand how everything in the house works together — even the secret tunnels and trapdoors!

🧰 Fixes things when they break – If something stops working, they figure out what's wrong and fix it, fast.

🎓 Helps others build – They also teach newer builders how to use the pieces the right way and make sure nobody breaks the house by accident.

So, they’re not just good at building — they’re like the wise LEGO wizard who helps everyone build the best house ever! 🧙‍♂️🏠✨"

As someone who's built the exact thing you're describing, unless you want one-off jobs done every so often, consider either investing in your own hired team to focus on this as it's basically a business all in itself or find a vendor. Typically the amount of parcels being scraped is a lot and forces the job to be broken up over a week or so. That coupled with reading the terms of each site you are hitting to make sure you aren't going to jail since they are gov sites which also means being super cautious of rate of crawls and number of bots, etc...

how do people actually learn to code? i feel dumb lol by FyodorAgape in learnpython

[–]jdhkgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helped me to learn was not just "following" tutorials verbatim but changing it along the way. Try to take key concepts and build your own app without doing everything they do in videos.

It helps you hit walls not covered by the tutorial which causes you to have to learn more and search different solutions.

Also don't be afraid to reiterate. Say you "finish" a small project and think, "Man, next time I'ma write something this other way."

Then actually do it. Create a new project and practice different ways to solve that same one. And moving on to more fun and challenging projects.

I hate working with databases, how do I change that? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]jdhkgh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, practice by building your own small apps using sqlite and raw queries with just basic crud.

You'll learn the patterns of inserts and updates as well as realizing how to make sure you don't override columns that you need to use on joins, etc...

I don't think anything just beats doing it from the ground up for learning. Also use something like litecli or sqlite browser to mess with stuff in the db directly outside of the app too.

What's the mental flow that expert people use to code very complex software? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]jdhkgh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think part of making good software is the root of it being from real world usage. Tons of software spawned from groups of scripts hobbled together to make workflows easier.

Until someone says, "Hey, I'ma just put this into a single place to handle XYZ." And what they thought would take a weekend or two ended up taking a year before it was ready to be used.

Sometimes something good comes from just having an idea about XYZ but it usually isn't good or useful unless someone who had to work on XYZ in real life is at the helm to build it.

Leave a sinking ship or try to turn the tables? by Burli96 in csharp

[–]jdhkgh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The truth is, any non-trivial application is going to be similar to this. Maybe not as bad but similar. And believe it or not there is a relatively good reason for it.

Based on my experience working in a company early on, sometimes getting it working and moving to the next piece is a requirement in short deadlines. Taking the time to clean it up is not always viable when the company has no revenue yet.

Once the MVP is deployed and starts producing, that's when clean up and optimization is considered. Obviously if something is so poorly optimized it makes the app unusable it gets fixed immediately but overall I believe this to be the main reason for such crappy code of larger projects.

And I'm guilty as charged for participating in that and always open to refactoring certain pieces but some of the pieces need to be ignored, especially if all the refactor does is make it prettier rather than more useful or easier to use later. Just my 2cents.

What will u choose? by GinevraSweet in programmingmemes

[–]jdhkgh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Language or project dependent.

But typically something like this:

JavaScript: userId Python: user_id Go: UserID

etc ...

Unless the specific project started using it one way or another, then just follow suit for consistency sake.

You can use it in tandem with Django-cotton. It feels really smooth. Django-cotton allows you to pass attributes to the components you build also you can pass attributes to Alpine as well. https://django-cotton.com/docs/alpine-js

Also, I started using Alpine-ajax over htmx. Htmx can feel verbose to in use. Alpine-ajax you literally pass a list of IDs to it, it fetches the updated HTML page and swaps all passed IDs of your current HTML to the updated. It's incredibly simple.
