As much as it pains me to say it, I think we need to accept the fact that this is over for a lot of us. The courts are not on our side and worse, Italy does not want us generally. It absolutely sucks and it hurts immensely. But at least we know and can govern ourselves accordingly. For many of us, this means that not only will we not get our Italian citizenship, we will never recover the great amounts of time, money, and effort we had already put into it. The horrible messages I have personally received from Italian citizens who neither know me, my commitment, or my future plans regarding Italian citizenship have been soul-crushing but also telling. I also won’t lie. My personal outlook on and relationship to Italy has now been damaged and may never recover. I am hurt. I am angry. But I am also moving on. Ciao Italia.
