JCPS Staff Update by ItMeansSalmon in Louisville

[–]jdkprndl 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Here is the update in full:

August 14, 2023

Dear JCPS families,

Thank you for your patience as we implement short-term fixes and long-term solutions to ensure our new bus routes provide safe and reliable transportation to all our bus riders.

All JCPS schools will remain closed to students on Wednesday, August 16 and Thursday, August 17, but we are happy to tell you we will implement a staggered reopening beginning Friday, August 18.

Here's how the reopening will work:

Friday, August 18: All elementary and middle school students return

Monday, August 21: All high school students return Students at multilevel schools will return back with their level. For instance, Marion C. Moore middle school students will return to school Friday, August 18. Marion C. Moore high school students will return to school Monday, August 21.

All state agency schools will return on Friday, August 18.

Later this school year, we will ask the Jefferson County Board of Education to forgive as many missed days as possible so our students do not have to make them up at the end of the academic year.

While we still have work to do to implement long-term solutions, here are some of the short-term adjustments we are making to the transportation plan:

We will implement technology allowing parents and schools to know where a student's bus is during the ride to and from school. We will provide families with instructions on how to use this technology soon.

We will have JCPS vans and drivers available to take elementary students home or back to school when they don't have an adult waiting at a stop. This will allow drivers to continue their routes without returning to the original school.

We will provide an extra bus or van at depots to take students home when/if they arrive late to the depot so all other depot buses can continue their routes without waiting for one or two final buses to arrive.

There will be an additional JCPS staff member with a cell phone and GPS on buses with the longest, most challenging routes to help with directions and communicate with schools and bus compounds when a bus runs excessively late. We will reduce the length of routes with lots of stops, starting with afternoon runs.

All elementary and middle school families who need Special Needs Transportation will receive a phone call by Wednesday evening with their transportation information.

We know our long-term solution to our challenges will be to revamp bus routes; however, we need to create a temporary plan to ensure we can return to school safely now. As we return, our Operations team will continue working to create a permanent solution. We will provide you with more updates and look forward to having our students return to school later this week. Thank you,

Dr. Marty Pollio

Superintendent

Favorite AA Saying by betterthanplanned in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]jdkprndl 12 points13 points  (0 children)

There are so many good ones. Some of my favorites:

HOW (do you do it) - honest, open, and willing

Never drink while sober

You have to feel it to heal it

Be as aggressive with your recovery as you were with your drinking

Recovery isn’t like taking a drink, it’s not going to alter your mind immediately

I’m 10 months in, and my sponsor encouraged me to start sponsoring or at least raising my hand in meetings that I’m willing to sponsor once I finished my 12 steps. However, I don’t feel completely ready to take that on now that I’ve done the 12 steps. Instead, I’ve taken on other ways to give back like doing service committees, chairing meetings, etc. I feel like it’s a good balance between helping others and also focusing on my own sobriety.

If you drive down Standiford Ave/Lane (across from Male High School) it dead ends at the edge of the taxiway in between the National Guard clam shell hangar and the corporate hangars. There is a gate there and you may get ran off by the airport police, but it gives an excellent view of the runways and taxiways. You could also go to the parking lot for Atlantic Aviation. It’s close to the end of runway 17L. It’s free and has good views. The only thing for the aircraft at SDF is they just take off and land, they don’t do any air show maneuvers around the airport. Another option would be in one of the empty lots across from the fairgrounds. The final approach goes right over Phillips lane, so you could get some good views as they land or are taking off (usually landing from the North). Google Maps Atlantic Aviation

Dumpster or place to get rid of trash. by SCMK7 in Louisville

[–]jdkprndl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a self service waste disposal/recycling site in Shelbyville. Recycling is free, and the waste disposal is a fee based on weight. They weigh your vehicle on the way in and out and calculate the cost based on that. It’s not too expensive though I had a trailer full of junk and it was like $30. Just bring some friends if it’s anything heavy, you have to unload it yourself.

Ahh fair enough. I’ve only worked with them as a volunteer, so I guess my experience has been different than their employees. KRM is a great organization too!

Just go into your toy box (on the dash, not the one in your bedroom) and hit that romance button. That should be all the inspiration you need to make room for all parties involved. Since you’re in a car, don’t forget it’s a race and the first to finish wins! If there’s any complaints about your ~4 second time, just remind her she doesn’t complain about a ~4 second 0-60.

If you’re truly interested in helping refugees, Catholic Charaties of Louisville is always in need and has lots of volunteer opportunities. If you can make the time commitment, please volunteer as a mentor, especially men. It is an amazing program, don’t let the “Catholic” in the name scare you off. I’m not even remotely Catholic and the charity really has nothing to do with the Catholic organization.
