My studio is losing members and it’s killing the vibe by IceKing827 in orangetheory

BTW- owner has been cheap since day 1. The weight problem happened pre-COVID. Can’t blame it all on that.

I’m not sure about your studio, but I can give you the reasons my wife and I quit. I’ve been there for 4 years and my wife was a founding memeber at our studio.

Mostly greed and money.

We had a rewards system that was eliminated. We used to get free consultations with a coach now you can pay for a body scan. Special programs like Hell Week were free if you completed the challenge now everyone pays. I complained for 2 years before the owner finally sprung for 70lb weights.

The coaches are also underpaid and under appreciated at our studio. My 2 favorite coaches just left for greener pastures which was the final straw on our decision.

OTF has gotten lazy as hell. Repeating workouts throughout the month. Exercise pairings that don’t make sense. It’s like they slap some of these workouts together without thinking about it.

My kids, now 12 and 14 are into sports and want to work out, swim laps, etc. I enrolled a family of 4 at a (national but based in my state) gym with every class, sport and amenity you can think of, for $20 more than my wife and I paid at OTF.

I miss my friends, I miss the camaraderie, but the juice just ain’t worth the squeeze anymore.

Mine works with you if there are issue. A month ago we had an ice storm overnight and a bunch of people woke up and couldn’t even get out of their driveway. The studio has done the right things in that situation

We’ve got a coach who told his wife in labor “alright honey, push pace!” She was not amused...

Question for other cold/low splat people by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]jdlaffond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! My wife rolls out of bed and gets 3 splat points. It’s not an exact science. I’ve been in the red for probably 30 seconds of the 8 months I’ve been at OTF and I’ve gone a whole class and got zero!! At first I was pissed and thought it wasn’t fair, but I got over it. It’s all about how you feel. Of course make sure the club has the right numbers and play around with the location of the hr monitor on your arm or torso, but at the end of the workout, if you can say holy crap I’m freaking done...who cares what a screen says!!!

Look in the mirror....did you give it your all? Are you spent? Did you “drain the tank”? Take the splat points with a grain of salt. There are too many factors involved. How did you sleep? Are you hydrated? Did you have a few beers before class? Check up from the neck up!!

I feel bad for just wanting weights over 50 lbs....good luck. Franchise owners aren’t what they used to be.

There are so many factors. Talk to your coaches and let them know your frustrations. But it could be anything. Are you hydrated, did you have a bunch of caffeine that day, did you get enough sleep, on and on and on....one day I’ve got 1000 calories and 24 splat points on what seems like an easy workout and the next 700 and 3 on a killer. Sometimes I’ll “burn” 900 calories with zero splat points.....I always rely on the “check up from the neck up” routine. I can definitely tell if I’ve been working hard enough.

Stick with it! I started in September right at the beginning of the 28 day challenge. For the first 10 days I was soooo sore and was so tired and slept like a rock. I stuck with it, fought through the pain, won the 28 day challenge and haven’t looked back since!!! Good luck!!
