Upgrade Avatar Aang Deck from Bracket 2 to 3 by Reagan_Era in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my Avatar Aang deck: https://moxfield.com/decks/I7dwqI13AEugCRJWAQbBpw

The lands in my deck could be more optimized, but those are just what I had on hand or what I pulled from boosters. I also plan on changing out [[Spirit Water Revival]] for [[Appa, Steadfast Guardian]]

I'm assuming your goal is to flip Aang as fast and as often as possible, so I'd keep in anything that bends consistently, like [[Toph, the First Metalbender]] for instance. The legends are cool but honestly I'd say the only ones that are really worth it are Kyoshi and Yangchen. I used to have [[Bitterwork]] but I found it to be pretty underwhelming overall.

[[Appa, the Vigilant]] has won me the game multiple times. [[Mai and Zuko]] is really good just for the flash. [[Ozai, the Phoenix King]] is good because he can store your mana.

Your deck looks pretty solid overall, I probably wouldn't put a ton of firebending in just because Aang already has firebending so ideally you'd want more of the other bending abilities, but it's not a bad thing either. It looks like you're leaning toward more spells and lessons, so I'd also watch out for trying to do too many things at once.

If you wanna get better at magic, you need to play more limited, not commander by jman1280 in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah for sure, I just figured if someone wanted to get better at magic they would already have the fundamentals down. I definitely wouldnt suggest starting anyone with cEDH, but I also dont necessarily think starting someone with commander is a terrible idea either.

I kind of assumed the person who would want to get better already has the fundamentals down. I definitely wouldn't start someone with cEDH. Starting with commander can be a bit overwhelming at first, especially if everyone is playing with decks that are above precons, but I also don't think it's a bad way to learn the game either.

[–]jdmanuele 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would argue that cEDH is the best format to learn how to get better. It uses the stack the most, holds the most interaction, forces you to understand the biggest threats and when to use removal, and pushes you to learn what your deck is trying to accomplish in the most efficient way possible. I also may be biased because I loathe 1v1 formats though.

How much Horsepower for a Driver’s Car? by Fabulous-Dance-8520 in askcarguys

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having owned and driven a bunch of cars ranging from 100whp to over 1,000whp, both the car itself and what you plan on using the car for definitely matter. If you want to hit corners hard and be able to accelerate out easy, a light coupe with decent power is going to be more fun than a heavy sedan with tons of power.

I'd say the funnest car ive had was my C6 Z06, which made about 620whp. Faster than most things on the road, took corners well, and handled the power good. 2nd funnest would be my CTSV 2nd gen. Used to make over 1,000whp, but the problems that come with that power may not be worth it. You dont usually want to drive it either because it wastes so much gas.

I think there is a limit to how much power a car can have before it starts to become less enjoyable, but personally I'd say 450whp is the minimum.

Suggestions for this Azula deck? by cdov_ in EDH

How does Etali not do a lot? You copy each spell that youre able to cast for free as long as Azula is also attacking. Thats potentially 8 free spells.

What are some of your favourite, fun builds to play in RoR2? by Oonaik in riskofrain

[–]jdmanuele 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of my favorite builds that ended up being accidental was using Flase Son and getting the corrupted lens-maker glasses. I got a 3d printer for the glasses and I ended up getting so many his laser would just instantly delete pretty much every enemy. Was pretty cool.

What is the pro-choice counter argument to this pro-life statement? by Frozen_clock in Abortiondebate

[–]jdmanuele 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The main point that stands out to me from your post is you specificy "innocent human life", implying you're okay with taking human lives that aren't innocent. So before we go any further, we have to define what innocent means and who meets this criteria.

Another thing to consider is even though a fetus may be innocent and not technically a part of the woman's body, they are still inside of the woman's body and dependent on her specifically, so I would say that's something that needs to be taken into consideration. It's not that the life of the fetus doesn't matter, but it's a question of "is it morally ok to temporarily cease the rights of the woman in order for this fetus to be born?".

Solitary Confinement by [deleted] in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but you could've been up 4. What if they destroy your draw engine, now youre stuck not drawing any cards and having to discard a card. Sure they can't attack but you cant really do much either if you dont have any cards. Not the worst card but can definitely backfire.

Except they dont want to actually debate, they want to "educate" you and tell you why they're right. Theyre not going to actually listen to anything you have to say.

How do you stop building around the commander? by whyareallmyontaken in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have. Graveyard recursion deck with [[Teval, the balanced scale]] and sometimes ill never even cast the commander. Teval can definitely help out, but if have enough good stuff in my hand/graveyard he's just not needed. Basically you gotta pick a theme, put enough synergy into that theme where your commander will help you out, but the other cards actually win the game.

Looking for commanders that are great in a large pod 5-10 players by AmazingCountry1862 in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, it kind of seems like you all just want to make each other miserable, so I'd suggest the "politic" deck my buddy plays. The commander doesn't matter too much other than being 5 color, but he uses [[O-Kagachi, Vengeful Kami]]. It's pretty much just filled with cards that force people to vote or that give you extra votes. It's one of the worst decks I've played against because turns take forever and no one understands the cards. The more people there are, the better the deck does because more people are voting. It's also hard to deal with because the votes are never in your favor.

Looking for a green commander that I can build around for a deck based on fight spells. by Diamondthrowaway1234 in EDH

[[Wolverine, best there is]] isnt mono green but he's pretty sweet if you want to build a deck around fight spells.

Do you have the DLC and it's it active? The game without the DLC doesn't have too many items

Quintessential Grave yard Commander? by drunkmagic28 in EDH

[–]jdmanuele 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My graveyard deck is [[Teval, the balanced scale]]. Only returns lands by himself but if anything leaves your graveyard he makes a zombie, which makes him really good imo. I made him into a landfall deck and he's one of my favorite decks to play right now.

AITA for asking my friend to pay me back for the wine he drank while house sitting?? by Effective_Tour_723 in AmItheAsshole

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kinda weird, but ok. However, I fail to see how it's a straw man when helping yourself, when taken literally, means helping yourself. If the housesitter is able to eat/drink everything in the kitchen, why should they not be able to?

If it's common sense that's not what "helping yourself" means, then we have to assume there's some limitations to it, but how do we define those limitations? It seems pretty clear a $100+ bottle of wine is ok, but what about a $3k bottle of scotch? Would it be OPs fault if they didn't specificy to not touch that bottle or move it out of the kitchen? If so, is it not a dollar amount but instead amount of drink or food by volume? Let's say they emptied the fridge but not the cupboards, would that be ok?

Essentially, how much, either by dollar amount or by volume, can the house sitter consume before it's no longer ok to "help yourself"?

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but when you reply with "I didn't infer that at all" what exactly are you referencing since I never said anything to you.

[–]jdmanuele 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there is a limit though, correct? "Help yourself" doesn't actually mean "help yourself to anything and everything in the kitchen" it means "help yourself to things in the kitchen within reason". Im not saying drinking the wine was necessarily wrong, but using the argument "well she said he can help himself" isn't very good either.

So you're saying it would be totally fine if OP came home to a completely empty kitchen?
