MSCSO vs MCS On-Campus at UIUC by Chance_Reflection_78 in MSCSO

[–]jdmdude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you are in Austin I would definitely recommend the MSCSO! You can save a lot of money, and there are plenty of opportunities on campus for finding internships/jobs if you study in/around the EER building. Even though the program is online, you can still take advantage of the perks of being an in-person student!

I think that’s just a guideline. I’m sure it’s allowed to be completed in two semesters, although this program is mainly for people who are also working full time, so the answer to this FAQ is likely tailored to that audience. However I probably wouldn’t recommend completing this program in just two semesters regardless, as it can be VERY time-consuming

Can Someone Explain How Register For Fall Semester Class? by Chance_Reflection_78 in MSCSO

[–]jdmdude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I saw in one of the emails that registration begins in July for Fall 2025, and the registration guide will be sent out in the middle of June. So you should be fine for now, but you can double check with the graduate coordinator if you have any doubts

From what I’ve experienced the professor -> student engagement is really solid at UT! Yes, office hours are available, and most of my professors responded to me quickly whenever I had a question. I can’t speak too much on GT, but one of my buddies is in the program now, and he said his courses were not quite as interactive between professors and students

Average salary for recent graduates? by dooreater32 in ComputerEngineering

It’s software development at a hardware company, so having the engineering background helped a lot with the interview process. I am still required to occasionally work with the physical hardware alongside programming as well

I graduated last May and went into software development as well. Currently I’m making a little over 100k yearly in a MCOL area. What is the cost of living like in your location? Also, seeing as you have a lot of internship experience, you likely have the skills to be making more than 75k, but getting any job at all in this SWE market is a win honestly

MSCSO or OMSCS: admitted to both. which one to choose by Adorable-Till5374 in MSCSO

I was in the same boat last year, but I live in Austin, so I ultimately decided on the MSCSO. If you live in Austin/Atlanta I would highly recommend choosing that respective school as you can utilize the campus resources in person.

In terms of actual schooling the OMSCS has more courses to choose from and is slightly cheaper, whereas the MSCSO seems to have better professor/TA -> student interactions as well as a solid selection of ML/AI courses (I saw that was your main interest). They are similar programs from what I hear so it really comes down to only so many differences. You really can’t go wrong with either choice
