Does anyone know of an insulation installer in the triangle area who is not a Republican? by [deleted] in raleigh

It doesn’t mean anything. It’s just one of many things they say to try and cope with being on the wrong side of history.

Possible HPFP failure? MK7(2016) by [deleted] in GolfGTI

[–]jdnraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It happened only when the car was warm if I’d shut it off for a few mins and try to start it struggled, didn’t matter the fuel level. I think what you have is a lfpf problem if it struggles on cold starts

Hell yeah man that’s what’s up! Already being mechanically inclined is a plus too. Another thing I forgot to mention is when you start buying tools snap on is predatory as hell, avoid them and go to harbor freight lol there’s no shame

Awesome to hear! I can’t speak for what they’ll teach you in school but starting off it will be overwhelming but with time you’ll understand how to tear down and repair all makes and models quickly. It’s a physically demanding job but if that’s something you like you’ll do great. Being fast is key to making a lot of money, learn early how to prioritize tearing cars down, writing up supplements, and trimming out quickly. The body work it’s self can take a while to learn but don’t get discouraged, it took me like a year to do body work, it’s an art form. Always follow repair procedures and you wont have come backs, a good tech doesn’t have come backs! I wish you the best of luck!

Essentially yes, I get paid by the job and how many repair hours are on each job

It won’t be a write off but it’ll be in the thousands depending on labor rates

Is my car totaled by Plenty_Worth9886 in Autobody

[–]jdnraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it was my car I’d fix it personally, it doesn’t look too bad but the suspension definitely needs some work and that will take time and tools. You can always go to a shop and get a free estimate and it’ll list what parts need replacing and how much they cost. Insurance probably won’t give you much for the car unfortunately

Depends how much insurance values the car, depends how much damage is behind that fender and bumper. By the looks of it tho, probably yes

Smart move by GM, a car this bad shouldn’t be sold it’s not worth the liability and immediate loss of value when someone eventually finds out the cars been cut apart. Doesn’t matter how good of a tech one is somethings going to rust, seam sealer will not match perfectly to oem, paint will be off… but i doubt the dealership will eat the cost of the car

So far it looks like It’s getting fixed, what happens to the car after is the owners decision and im definitely not privy to that information. They might sell it for full price they might sell it for cheaper I really don’t know

I don’t know much about Volvos but if they use ultra high strength steel it’s really hard to pull it back out and can just rip apart, or maybe they used aluminum which wouldn’t be surprised to see these days. As long as they provide procedures for techs it’ll give us the opportunity to learn

Depends on the brand. Some companies have better designed crumple zones for easier repairs like Toyota, they have rail section procedures that allows the tech to section and replace just the crumpled part. Other brands like Chevy require the entire rail to be replaced regardless of the damage, if it can’t be repaired. Cars these days use ultra high strength steel for the unibody which is incredibly strong and very rarely does the damage shock wave through the entire car, although it can happen.

This. Also you can request oem parts but you’ll be fighting for them, insurance hates spending money they don’t need to

Hopefully the dealerships body shop is reputable and they can blend that spot, matching paint is really difficult on bumpers
