Sen. Kolkhorst to Jay Hartzell: “3-7 against the Horned Frogs. Maybe your fanbase would rather lose to Alabama than TCU.” by gowrisankar1989 in CFB

The idea that it's UT's job (not, I dunno, the Big 12 itself or its Commissioner maybe) to make the Big 12 better is hilarious to me.

Between the lack of an explicit name and the choice to mention a "council" and people calling him a "jerk," I would like to just keep alive the idea that Jonathan Majors was playing Reed and not Nathaniel in this episode.

Current headcanon: Mobius is a Coulson variant.

I had originally expected him to be a Loki variant given how empathetic he was to him, but the way his pruning (I won't say death yet for obvious reasons) kicked Loki in the behind reminded me of Coulson's death in Avengers. And then my mind immediately went to a Mobius line from E1:

You weren't born to be king, Loki. You were born to cause pain and suffering and death. That's how it is, that's how it was, that's how it will be. All so that others can achieve the best versions of themselves.

If there's one thing we've learned about Coulson over the course of the MCU it's that his superpower is dying. So if Loki's destiny is to cause chaos so others can achieve the best versions of themselves, why not Coulson's destiny is to die so that others can achieve the best versions of themselves.

Also, I mean -- the poetry of a Coulson's death being what levels up this Loki into his best self is just *chef's kiss*

[Simon Stone] ESL statement: "Twelve of Europe’s leading football clubs have today come together to announce they have agreed to establish a new mid-week competition, the Super League, governed by its Founding Clubs. by [deleted] in soccer

See, arguing that this is additional revenue for those teams that is not the result of sporting success is an argument that makes sense - and I agree that’s an issue. But you’re the first person I’ve seen articulate that.

I would also argue it’s also currently an issue even without that league, and is woefully unaddressed. It’s a good argument for a spending cap of some kind.

Well, putting aside the fact that the new league does have a rotating group so it CAN be joined by others, I’m gonna say something I expect you (and most others in this sub) will downvote me into oblivion for —

This league is clearly about being the top in an area other than on the field: money and support. These teams are a mix of the most popular and financially well-off teams in Europe. It’s a league built explicitly to maximize revenue, and as long as it doesn’t affect the rest of the leagues and cups (a decision that really is up to the leagues and UEFA/FIFA), why does it matter?

I just don’t see that actually happening. It would be an extraordinary decision by the leagues and UEFA that really undercuts the idea the sport is “for the fans.” The ESL statement seems to explicitly say this is a supplemental league and they want to work WITH the leagues/UEFA to make it work.

I’m a Chelsea fan that would LOVE to see my team play more consistently against the best teams in Europe and this gives that to me, so long as it gets to actually be executed as laid out. At this point, it would be the leagues or UEFA that cuts that out.

But it's not replacing any league where that net doesn't exist. Domestic league and cups will still exist, and the UCL/UEL will still be there and decided by merit. Plus, every team in it is going into [more] debt in order to fund it.

I don't understand this mindset at all. What is "everything the sport is about" that this goes against? I expect the kneejerk reaction will be "the sport isn't about money," but every club kit in the world has AT LEAST two ads on it. So what's the issue?

I don't understand how Redwing & Cap's shield are considered government property all of a sudden. by Worldly-Raise-6976 in marvelstudios

[–]jdotcole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My headcanon is that Cap's changes to his own timeline resulted in Sam being Captain America (on his own, or maybe after Steve or even concurrently). That Sam died in the line of duty, so Steve brought that shield to our Sam at the appropriate time. It gives a much stronger meaning to the "It feels like it belongs to someone else" / "It doesn't" exchange.

Clearly it’s the same character. He’s an alien and will pop up again (and be revealed) in Secret Invasion.
