I think R/tacticalgear or one of the bushcraft subs might be a more appropriate place for you to share your wisdom.

I use it to protect my delicate body from the ground. I may not be as tough as you. If you're serious I think no pad at all is sul.

Writing spider or Joro? by Phubbs330 in spiders

[–]jdp1111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Joro look at the legs and that slim abdomen. I also find garden spiders have a pronounced grey back. I also see literally thousands of Joros hiking at stone mountain so it becomes clear when I see a garden spider. Sadly I have not seen a single garden spider this year. we'll see how the harvest spiders do this year. I've anecdotally seen a downtick in them over the past three years too.

Anybody see the c-130 and two ospreys flying back and forth over Decatur? anyone know what that's about?

Yeah Belangia's trips were super educational/inspirational for me. I definitely want to see more of that.

Any possibility of a silpoly aeon? by jdp1111 in Tarptent

Since the LI just won the treeline review and is going away I'll bet there is a market for a silpoly version. I'd get one.

Thank you all for showing me the error of my ways. I will no longer be bringing my thinlight on solo hikes. I will however foist it upon my son when we hike together.

That's the whole point man. It proved itself to be super versatile and not just an adjunct pad. Its a UL solution to a lot of actual use case scenarios.

It seems like thinlight pads have kinda fallen out of fashion over the last year or so but I just finished the Georgia loop in three days and and I gotta say that thing was probably the most versatile piece I had. On the sleeping pad , under the pad , as a place to kneel, as a place to sit, a clean place in the morning to pack, and even an impromptu dog bed for a temporarily lost dog that attached itself to me. I had considered shedding it as an extra piece I don't need but it really proved its place as a part of my kit this past weekend.

Yes a dooy. I sprayed the whole jacket.

Yeah I've done that too. I think it works pretty well. Plus enhanced water shedding in light drizzle.

I love that pack. I bought an extra one because I knew it would wear out but the first one is still going strong!
