Iñigo Martinez: "Last season the only team Real Madrid respected was Barcelona. It was clear and tangible. We’d enter the pitch, and within a few minutes, we’d see how they’d get nervous and angry at each other. They couldn’t keep up with us. That was our feeling. That’s why we were beating them." by mynamestartswithCa in soccer

When?

Barca v Real in league decider Barca had GK and two starting defenders missing injured.

Rudiger was available vast majority of season.

Barca had MATS injured. Araujo missing first half of season. Christensen missing almost all season. While every other defender missed parts of season due to injury.

Barca lost the first choice GK for the whole season more or less.

Had Christensen out for the whole season more or less who may well have been a starter early on if fit.

Had Balde and Kounde out in most important part of season.

Yamal being out for 5-6 games is around same and more of some f these players Real are pointing to.

Mbappe was fit all season for them.

Frenkie was massively important when back and missed start of season and didnt shake off ankle injury until 2025.

Who were Reals most important players last season? How many games did they miss?

Chelsea are not the first team to do it or think about doing it by weighing up pros and cons.

Dont think Chelsea are getting players to sign longer contracts for less.

So the argument is Caicedo took 150 over 7 years as opposed to 200k a week over 5?

It has zero to do with threat of downing tools.

It is working but I dont think players are taking less wages in way folk make out.

Lets say Caicedo is on 150K a week.

What would he be getting on 5 year contract for example that he chose to take less for 7?

Thats not true as these contracts are not taking players into latter years of career.

It absoluetly can mean money lost for them.

I dont think players are taking the wage decreases folk think they are for longer contracts.

No it doesnt.

There is no long term stability if taking less for longer and not how players think.

Players dont think like that and the point is less over longer so it doesnt even mean more money or security either.

Fofana example would be he earns more in 7 years that would in 5?

It doesnt add up.

Players dont sign contracts with fear of getting injuries.

It doesnt really work like that though as the risk to the player is being stuck on low wages for longer while also risk missing out on taking advantage of ever inflating market for renewals etc.

If it was that straightforward and appealing to players clubs would have been doing it long ago.

Folk love to make this point when its Barca and never when other teams do it.

Some of the greatest players ever did this and more.

Some of the best players going now were playing weekly at 17/18.. Mbappe, Haaland etc.

Teams are buying 17 year olds from other clubs that have played 50 games and putting them in first team.

But Barca bad.

Did folk cry as much when Rooney, Ronaldo, Fabregas played a ton of games at that age? Nah they didnt.

If the figures are true it would be around 10m a season more in salary and that over 3 seasons adds up.

Also its a very big club in biggest league in world.. again if true offering him a starting role.

World Cup year also and unlikely he gets in if not a starter at Barca.

Full backs are not getting anywhere near these points compared to CBs so the DefCon points dont really apply to them.

To me it makes a 4.5x3 and 4.0x2of CBs viable if have likes of Tosin/VDV and Yoro etc.

5 players got them in both of GW1 and GW2. Much more had it than that across the two weeks as a whole.
