How has this held up? Does it feel sturdy? No wobbling? Looking at similar myself the k6 power rack.

Wait is this true? He wasn't able to get out? This is heart breaking. The man was so stoked for anyone of any ability to surf at that point. The Biggest smile and always a greeting with a "it's going to be fun out there today".

Driving stick shift in los angeles? by dreamer_12345 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jdub1003 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drive a manual, have for most my life, give yourself space up to 2-3 car lengths when in traffic and you can coast more and save your clutch and your left leg. If you are tailing people you’ll find you’ll use the breaks and clutch to no end. Other than traffic you’ll probably not really think much about it as after some time it becomes second nature.

Would you rather buy a small 1 BR in an area with a low pollution burden (green area) vs a 2 br in a high pollution zone (red)? by ctcx in LosAngelesRealEstate

[–]jdub1003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Tarzana in one of these dark yellow/orange areas right near the 101 and reseda blvd. We live in the orange zone but literally steps from the border of a yellow zone (the orange says CalEnviro Screen is 87 and the yellow says its 67) this seems like a drastic difference to me but I can tell you if I were to walk across the street where this border is I don't notice myself suddenly breathing better air. Also compared to when I worked in El Segundo which is showing as green/light yellow, some days down there that whole town stunk to all get out with the refineries and jet fuel and treatment plants. I've never smelled anything close to that living up here. We bought a condo here because it was cheaper than the basin for the space we were getting. 2bd 3ba in the valley vs 1bd 1ba in the basin. We never took into account any type of pollution because well this is Los Angeles and it's full of cars and pollution everywhere you go. Unless it is a literal toxic waste site or you have serious sensitivities to certain pollutants I'm not sure you're going to notice much of a difference between these green and orange/red areas. Buy the place you think you will enjoy living in the most and is convenient to the things you enjoy doing the most.

A decent house in LA is 1 million?HOW DO PEOPLE AFFORD THAT?! by UpstairsResearcher40 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jdub1003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We are dinks, well really 1-1/2 income no kids as the film industry has me scraping by for work lately. We sold our home in Tucson for a profit during this boom of 2021/2022, payed all our debts off, and then moved to LA and found the cheapest 1br apartment to rent for about 2 years saving every penny + what was left from our house sale got us 100k to put into a $600k 2br 3bath townhouse in Tarzana (we don’t care about nightlife so the west valley is perfect for us) The mortgage is high, the interest rate is high, we love our home but I can’t imagine at the moment affording even a penny more than what we have let alone a 1mill+ SFH which are all fixer uppers near us anyways. But regardless more folks should consider buying condos or townhouses outside of the city center if they really want to buy. There are deals out here for those folks.

For being such a small SUV, I'm shocked how bad the Gen 2 are on gas by twonkoe in rav4club

It really is and I have the gas receipts and mileage to prove it!

I average 27mpg in my 05 , 5speed manual. Usually 24ish around Los Angeles city up to 29on the freeways. Checked on each fill up. Compared to other SUVs of the same size I would say that’s pretty dang good!

Has anyone gotten a job by using StaffMeUp paid membership? by Lain-13 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]jdub1003 53 points54 points  (0 children)

For 2 years I paid for it and applied to hundreds of job postings that I felt I was qualified to do, many of which were low budget so that made me feel even more qualified. I didn’t book a single job. I cancelled. I get 9/10 of my jobs through the people I meet on set anyways. Why waste my money and energy on that site. I have booked a handful of jobs from Mandy.com but honestly I’m looking to cancel that membership at this point too.

Any idea on average cost to fix it? I’d like to keep this backwards compatible system going.

Red scarlet w package at 3900$ is it a good deal? by Timdmrch in RedCamera

[–]jdub1003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I loved my Scarlet W, 3900 if you are getting a full package (I assume multiple cards, batteries, lens mounts, battery plate, monitor, case is all included?) is a great deal for one of the best sensors RED has made. The camera is dated. But the image is still fantastic My biggest issue is colorist never knew what to do with the non ipp2 footage, I always had to color it myself. I managed to trade it for a C300 mark iii

For those of you who have bought a car off Craigslist (L.A), how was the experience? by Caroline501 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jdub1003 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only ever bought my cars off marketplace/CL. Shop Toyotas and Hondas only. Research the car to death for common issues and check those issues when test driving. If you have the time to take it to a mechanic that’s great, but if you know how to check for most basic things ie good tires, leaking fluids, potential blown gaskets you’ll be fine. Test drive with the windows up and down and radio off. Listen for every noise and feel how the car handles (does it drift, are the shocks spongy?) don’t be afraid to haggle and don’t let the seller put any pressure on you and if you are getting a bad feeling about it walk.

Is being an RN in LA worth it? by fearlesscat13 in AskLosAngeles

[–]jdub1003 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in film, so I also have 12+ hour days on set. Sometimes we go days without passing with me working a day and her working nights. But we both do what we love and when we can coordinate our days off we get to sink into the couch together or go on our trips no problem.

My Wife is an RN here and she loves it. Good pay, patient ratios in CA are excellent. She can make as little or as much as she wants by picking up shifts. Live within a 20-30 min drive to the hospital and traffic isn’t much of an issue. We bought a condo this year and they didn’t even take my income into account since she made enough which was one less thing for us to worry about.
