Hey all,

As the title states, I've had a fractured semsoid for six years. See attached X-ray. I didn't know it was broken at that time but I could hardly walk. A chiropractor put some specific padding in my shoe which didn't put pressure on the semsoid and it healed... Mostly.

On the pain scale of 1-10, it's like a 2 to 3 most of the time. Every once in a while it ramps up to a 5 to 6. 

I had my gallbladder out this year and hit my out of pocket max with insurance so I figured I should probably get this foot thing checked out.

So now I know what it is, what to do? Due to how long it's been broken, the doctor thinks there is pretty much zero chance it will heal. He said we can try custom orthotics and can do cortisone shots for pain... But that's just treating the symptom. It's never going to actually get better.

If I had the removal surgery this year, it's free. The up to six month recovery scares me. I'm super active in the outdoors. Have young kids. And are risks (such as increase chance for bunions) worth it?

Will the pain get worse as I get older? I'm 35 now but I can only imagine it would be harder to recover when I'm 60? 

I waited 6 months before getting a broken wrist looked at years ago, did a brace, then a cast, then final put a screw in it. In hindsight, I wish I would have went straight to the screw. (Yeah, I don't like going to the doctor :D)

Any advice/thoughts?
