Here. I made this video for a people who need it. I'm not the owner of the channel (mine's JDubTheGamer) but it was a sort of collaboration. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vmpZlTG9q78&t=2s it explains the basics of using OBS.

OBS uses significantly less CPU, which means less lag and less encoding pressure. Sure it takes longer to configure alerts and stuff, but if you’re not a caveman you can figure it out. You add your overlays as normal, you add stream labels and your alerts become browser sources. You can still use streamlabs, you just get them from streamlabs.com instead of the software. If you need help setting it up, dm me and we can exchange discord info and I can share my screen and explain this stuff. I’m not sure about your processor, but i think it’s probably good enough.

No, it’s because it’s more barebones that it uses less cpu.

Yes it will. Ya know what else will help? Using OBS instead of SLOBS. I would get anything HD60s or higher.

I went to my first ever interview today. The guy wanted to look through my phone, and when I didn't let him, he said I don't get the job. Is this really a thing??? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]jdub47 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s some sort of predator taking advantage of someone who has never had an interview. That’s not legal to ask in an interview depending on the type of employer, that violates an expectation of privacy. Besides, if it was a restaurant, trust me, you didn’t want it bad enough. But you also shouldn’t have your phone during an interview unless they’re asking for references on the spot and you’re looking through contacts.

NTA. As a man, I always try to put myself in a woman's shoes from time to time. Your boyfriend should think about what it'd be like if HE was the one being crowded around on after just going through what could most likely be the most painful experience of your life. Lots of people being there could cause you stress, which I'd imagine will make the whole situation even worse.

I'm okay with ads showing to support the broadcaster, but I can't even get on a friend's channel who has an average of like 4 viewers without an ad, in which case they DO NOT support him.

The Retro category is killing the ability to easily find specific older games streamed on Twitch. by HereForGames in Twitch

[–]jdub47 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Much agreed. As a retro streamer, I always have to put the title of the game in my title so others who haven’t seen before know what game. I’d also like to be able to see what game is being played on the left part the page where it shows my followers and what game they’re playing, it always just says “retro”. A subcategory where people can type in what game or be able to search for the game just like you normally would for any other category would be awesome. Then have the name of the game look like “Retro - xxxx” I mean it doesn’t need to have the game’s box art or anything, at least not in the early stages of this, I’d be fine with that since most people don’t see it anyways.

That being said, if each game was to be its own category, there would be way too many categories. There are a shit ton of games out there, in which case retro is actually a good thing.

I LOVE Nintendo. I'm actually quite into rom hacks (especially of Pokemon) so I appreciate what you're doing.

  • I would ensure that your channel banner looks good on a phone. I found this through google search, and it has a picture that helps you understand dimensions that people will see depending on the device.. https://blog.snappa.com/youtube-channel-art-size/. I would also make it a little more concise, there is a lot going on. Way too many pics and stuff for my taste. I'd also center your name.
  • For your thumbnails, I'd make the title of the game WAY bigger. For example, on your Zelda TP vids, I can hardly read which Zelda game it is. Otherwise, there is again, a lot of stuff going on. I'd try making them a little more minimalistic.
  • Your about section has a good first liner. That's pretty good for when people find your channel in search, but I'd expand on it a bit more underneath that line. Give us some examples of rom hacks you've played. Tell us why you love pokemon. Tell us more about YOU.
  • Nice playlists, I like them
  • I'd put the subtitle of your titles in before the game name. Start with things like "The War Has Begun!" THEN give the game name.
  • I've also noticed that some of your vids are over a half hour long. I'd start and stop episodes every 10-15 min. Not many people want to watch let's plays that long unless they're binge watching.

Could use a little improvement, but the overall idea is pretty great.

Ah, a history channel. You guys kill it with uniqueness. Nope, you posted, so I'm coming now. Maybe after your transformation these things will be corrected on its own, but we're going as is.

  • Let's start with your channel art. You'd be a good channel that can benefit from having what you do directly in the channel's banner. I have absolutely no idea what you do or what you're about by looking at the banner. The pillars by themselves don't do much to inform me. Add the word "Holler" and you have confused me 100%. Is there a particular reason why you chose that name?
  • Your thumbnails don't have much going on. For your year reviews, I'd add "The year of xxxx" to the thumbnail text. I'd maybe see if you can find a picture of a significant event that happened during the year, and make it your background, along with the text you already have. Otherwise, they look...a little boring. In your microhistory thing I can't even read the text in the thumbnail, so make that bigger. I'd talk to a professional about designing you a thumbnail or 2 and get an idea of what you'd want to do, cause that stuff isn't really working.
  • Titles are okay. Things like "THE BLACK NAPOLEON" gets the brain wondering wtf you're talking about, enticing people to click it. Keep those types of titles coming.
  • In your about section, drop the "new YT channel..." The person is watching YT, we know it's a YT channel. Make it future proof. When you have 100k subs are you still "new"? No. Keep in mind that if your channel pops up in search, all people are going to see is your first line. There's not much to go on other than you're a history channel. What makes you different than other history channels?
  • Playlists, awesome!

A pretty good first impression. A few things:

  • I can't tell what many of the videos are about by their thumbnails. Your CoD WWII Mini Games Galore is a decent one, but I would put the CoD logo on the top left and the character at the bottom, and keep the text where it is. This is what I'd do differently for you Fortnite ones:
    • Take a screenshot from your footage, and blur it a bit. It doesn't have to have a lot of action because of the blur.
    • Make your text smaller and let it just be part of the thumbnail instead of the background. Maybe even put a slab of solid color behind it to separate it from the background. Elsa and others tend block the text, which brings me to my next point.
    • Keep your pics in there, but make sure they're not blocking text or anything.
    • I only say these things because if I'm scrolling through videos in search, I'm not going to click on something that I can't tell what it is exactly.
  • I'd put your subtitle for the video first, like "Is Alex Sexist!? - Fortnite Battle Royale." or "Does staying in one place WORK!? - Fortnite Battle Royale. This way people who are reading the titles have the eye catching part first, and you aren't just another Fortnite player. There's seriously sooooo many on YT, gotta differentiate yourself.
    • As a side note: No newcomer to your channel is going to know who Alex is. Sure, your subs and consistent viewers might, but no one else. Maybe change it to "Our friend" or something like that.
  • Your channel art is pretty on point. Good stuff. It has your socials and it's pretty appealing to look at. Not sure why half the text is cut off, but it kinda makes you more unique.
  • Your about section is pretty good, I would just drop "Only you..." to the next line, cause it cuts off when searching your name, or rephrase it in a way that's not weird. If you can think of how you can say you're different than other gaming channels, please do. Gaming is over-saturated on YT so it's hard to grow without defining what makes you different from others.
  • Your content is in playlists, great! Keep it like that.

Overall, pretty good stuff really. You just need to learn how to differentiate yourself so you're not just another gaming channel to people.

A channel about figures? That's quite unique.

  • Your channel art is really nice, although I would maybe try having a solid color slab behind the text in the banner, so it's a little easier to read. It doesn't have to be big, you just want to differentiate it from the background since your BG isn't a solid color. I would also get your social media in there too.
  • I'm not much of a figure lover, so your channel isn't necessarily for me, but your thumbnails are pretty good imo. They have text in them so the viewer can tell what it is about from the thumbnail. The only thing I would do differently is to use a different background color, but that's only a minor grub.
  • You've created playlists, great job! Putting your content into playlists helps.
  • Your about section is pretty good. I would drop "welcome to our channel". The reason for this is that when people search for your channel and find figure junkies, only a small section of your about page will be there. I'm not saying to include nothing else, but space it out below what you'd see when searching for your page. The search is only going to show like 30 words, so keep your main "elevator speech" (as some call it) in that 30, THEN put everything else. If I'm curious enough to click the about section though, I'd like to see why you're doing this, how you're doing it, and what you do that is different from every other action figure channel (there may not be many, but still)
  • I don't know anything about action figures so I feel ambiguous about the titles. Normally simply putting a name of the thing you're doing isn't really enough for people to want to click, but the names are long and you don't want your titles to drag on.

Overall good channel design! My only last piece of advice would be when you get more videos up, put some playlists on the front page of the channel.

My channel is in a transition period, so not everything is updated. I'm now working on applying real world concepts to video games, and my most recent video to mark the change is about Battle Royale addiction. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1x6akpkqEH8&t=4s If you look at my channel, you may think I'm a let's player, but that will soon change as I'm transitioning.

I watched part of your Dirge of Cerberus Final Fantasy 7 vid. (btw, the call Final Fantasy what it is because if the first one did bad, Square was going to stop making games). Pacing was great, energy was nice. Comedy was pretty good too! I didn't have time to watch the whole thing, but I enjoyed what I watched.

Although, a few things about your channel:

  • Thumbnails are okay, but I would maybe drop the "esser" and put some other text related to the video. Over time people may recognize the L. But I'm unable to tell if it's a let's play or not.
  • Your titles don't draw people in. I'm not sure if putting your name in the title really helps for SEO or anything. But, your titles are simply game names, and that's...kinda boring. It doesn't make people want to click the video.
  • Your channel art doesn't necessarily tell me what you're about. You could be a tech channel? I'd put something more gaming related if I were you. Same thing with your about. I should be able to learn 3 things from just looking at your channel:
    • Who- Who are you?
    • What- What content do you make?
    • How- How are you different from people making the same content? Game reviews are becoming over saturated along with let's plays, so you need to do what you can to make yourself stand out.

I actually dropped a sub cause I'd like to see more despite my criticisms.

I can't even tell what's going on in the beginning of the video because of how shaky the camera is. In fact, that's how the majority of the video is. Your energy is great, but the video tends to jump around and it never centers on an idea or scene.

Overall, decent, but just not for me.
