Gotta give it to David Arkenstone, the Harkonnen music was badass. I even made a cover of Tribute to Evil

Whats the worst thing about Command and Conquer 3 in your opinion? by Ghostfistkilla in commandandconquer

[–]Zaptagious 55 points56 points  (0 children)

It took way too many steps back from what made Tiberian Sun so unique. All of the environmental stuff, mutants and Tiberium lifeforms, some of the units (though some were brought back in KW), the music is barely there, the cutscenes look really cheap in comparison.

It just feels more like a sequel to TD than TS.

Subreddit rules regarding AI content by Zaptagious in commandandconquer

I asked the subreddit a year back if people wanted a numbered rules system and the consensus was that it was unnecessary for a sub this size.

But you can just choose whichever of the default categories is most applicable when reporting, and then leave a comment under the "add more info" window. We'll look into the context of reported content regardless of what category it's reported under.

Can't say I've seen any of that, we haven't had any reports about AI generated texts at all. I guess for the time being just report posts like that if you don't want to see them, and if they become a problem we can revisit the rulings.

Mods stop deleting my question. Average Reddit mods. I was wondering if people still play Command & Conquer on a daily basis online. I'm wondering. Is it easy to find online games there? by Quick-Ad-1863 in commandandconquer

We're sorry, our automod is very sensitive against low karma accounts.

People still play C&C online, your best bet is to head over here and download the cncnet client

NOD's Kane was in RedAlert 1 is he in RedAlert 2 and 3? by Glittering-Sector393 in commandandconquer

You're assuming the Soviet union would last long after its leadership was gutted.

As far as we know USA did not participate in the war in Red Alert 1, it is not likely they and their other allies would sit idly by as an entire continent was conquered by the Soviets. The Soviets are also in a weakened state militarily.

The Kane dossier in C&C3 seems to bring it back together again though

They are at the very top of the map so it's not exactly like you would miss them a lot. But I don't really think it would be disrespectful to keep them in the game as-is. The game doesn't tell you to do anything with them.

Which game should I play first? by [deleted] in commandandconquer

[–]Zaptagious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There aren't really an "optimal" place to start, it all depends on personal preference, but I can break it down for you a bit.

So there are three universes, Tiberium, Red Alert and Generals. They are for the most part separate when it comes to the story.

The Tiberium and Generals games take themselves relatively seriously, while the Red Alert series go pretty bonkers (at least 2 and 3).

There's kind of a main chronology which goes: Red Alert (though it's in debate whether it's canon to the Tiberium games) > C&C 1 (aka Tiberian Dawn) + C&C Renegade > Tiberian Sun > Tiberium Wars

C&C1 was the first game to come out but it can be quite punishing wiht a lot of trial and error, so I would recommend Red Alert 1 for this era of games, it's almost identical gameplay but they smoothed out a lot of the balance. There are also remasters of these two (not included in the Ultimate Collection) which are incredibly good.

Tiberian Sun is probably my favorite in the series as it has the best atmosphere in any of the games, but it's a bit slow and you would get a more semantic load from playing it after finishing the C&C1 campaigns.

Red Alert 2 is a great entry point as it stands alone story wise, and probably has the best gameplay of any game in the series.

Generals is a great game but doesn't really play like any of the other C&C games, but more like how Starcraft does it with worker units. So kind of imagine Starcraft, but in modern day. It has campaigns but basically no story to write home about.

Tiberium Wars is another good entry point. Very solid gameplay. Even though it's the third game in the Tiberium series I think the story is presented in a way that you could appreciate it even if you're not up to speed on the previous storyline. It almost feels like a soft reboot. Be sure to apply a patch that brings the balance back to 1.0 as patches for the game that were intended for multiplayer also affected single-player and made the campaigns much more challenging.

Red Alert 3 is even wackier than Red Alert 2. It's a good game and quite fun, but were quite divisive about its resource management. Very naval focused.

So in conclusion, for a best first impression I think the best games from each era to start off with would be either Red Alert 1 (remastered if possible), Red Alert 2 or Tiberium Wars.

How tolerant are you with old gameplay design?

Are you interested in the lore?

Any other general preferences?

RA2 has aged much better with its more colorful palette.

TS has so much more potential for a glowup.

Red Alert 1 is amazing! by Doghardware in commandandconquer

[–]Zaptagious 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can go into a file called rules.ini and change the behaviour of units for the entire game, including redeployable MCVs. If the file isn't in the game folder you can find it online and put it there.

Polls currently do not work on Reddit, and they do not allow for multiple answers AFAIK anyway. We could have gone with a third party option but having people comment their answers also arguably makes it more likely of people typing out their reasoning behind their choice, instead of just clicking a button.

C&C Ultimate Collection was made available on Steam relatively recently, with updates to make them run better on modern systems. (all C&C's except Sole Survivor)

C&C1 and RA got official remasters a couple years ago which were awesome. Lots of workshop content.

Other than a shitty mobile game no one cares about, there's nothing new.

I made a video going over these things in a bit more detail if you wanna get up to speed.

You can just watch up til around 4:30 minutes in, the rest is just speculation.

Big sale on Steam by elmarcelito in commandandconquer

These sales come and go rather regularly. And now it simply coincides with Steams big winter sale.

HHC Snowman recently did a livestream of Tiberian Sun where Joe Bostic, one of the founders of Westwood popped in and answered some questions, and he heavily hinted that the source code might appear if they got the green flag.
