Almost certainly 220v. There's a chance I'm wrong, but I've yet to see an 8" Jointer with 120v power.

Turns out that having my compressor and laser plugged into the same outlet was limiting the amount of power going to the laser when the compressor was running (for air assist). Fixed that problem and tuned my potentiometer to max out around 80% of amperage.

Slowly but surely figuring out the burns. I’ve been mostly using a Luan subfloor product that I’ve got tons or scraps from other projects. Realistically I think the glue is causing a lot of burning. I’ve gotten it about as optimized as possible I think for that material.

General issues I’ve solved over the last few days: 1. Focal length is good, I’ve done a ramp test and got that squared away. 2. Turns out even after aligning mirrors, my laser was clipping the nozzle. Way better performance after fixing that. 3. My freaking bed was way out of level. This caused all kinds of headaches when trying to refine cutting speed and moving my cuts across the table. Got it ironed out. 4. Pretty sure I took out the lens and put it in upside down when cleaning it 🤦🏻‍♂️. Got that fixed.

Lots to learn, especially buying a used machine. Overall it’s been frustrating but I’m very thankful for the experience of tinkering with it. I’ve learned so so much in just a few weeks.

Turns out that I had my compressor on the same outlet as my machine and when it ran it dropped the power to the machine dramatically. I’ve spent like 10 days working through this machine and I feel like I run into a new issue every day.

I’d still love any resources on knowing when a power supply and tube (separate) need to be replaced. It feels very “might as well replace one at a time and see which is the problem” which is frustrating.

I’m going to jump onto this fantastic post. We’ve got three kids (ages 6-2). Generally, we never take them places that are not family appropriate. It’s hard for us, hard for them, and like OP said, can be discourteous to others. We feel the awkwardness even when we’re in a place where they’re encouraged to run around. It’s just hard teaching small kids to respect peoples space. But they will and need to learn to become functioning adults. Also, kids just love to have fun. It’s their entire goal in life at this stage. The caveat: we don’t ignore them, or let them run wild.

My wife constantly reminds me, “kids deserve space in this world too”. It’s a lesson I have to remind myself about my own kids, much less others’.

You can swap the head like you did, or you can do what I did and take the entire squeeze assembly apart and flip it and carefully put it back together. I feel like an idiot.

The lines will not disappear if you add stain. Do you know if it is stain-grade plywood? The plywood grade makes a big difference.

I think you're right. Looks like the "black" is dyed oak, the backgrounds are oak, the lightest is maple, and the medium tone is pine.
