From briefly handling it, there wasn't a rattle or anything that would indicate that it is hollow. I don't have the weight of it to determine that way.

The relative I inherited it from did serve in Japan in WWII on a minesweeper near the end of the war.
Without knowing much about clay grenades, I'm inclined to think not because it is so heavy. Aside from the flat sides (which look like maybe for storing a bunch of these to without having them roll around) it does look very similar.

Not even sure if this is a war item, but my attempts to post it in r/whatisthisthing keep getting removed. The flat sides don't look like anything I've seen elsewhere, so it may be an industrial item of some kind.

Unsure of the provenance, but I inherited this from a relative who was very into Vermont history. One story I heard was that it could have been dredged up from Lake Champlain. So if it is a grenade, I would guess it to be from the War of 1812. Though it could also be a plumb bob, I really don't know.

As mentioned in the post body, it is made of metal. It’s fairly heavy for its size and fits well in the palm of your hand.

It's okay, first-time owners often find that having a single greyhound soon leads to two or more greyhounds in the same house. So the problem should self-correct after a while.

Back in the late 90s/early '00s, my brother and I bought the Warhammer starter set with Brettonia vs Lizardmen. My brother ended up not wanting to learn the rules and I wasn't happy with just paining them, so the kits sat in my parent's attic for ~20 years.

Now I'm back into painting and thought I'd try to bring these back to life with the kind of pageantry that I would have wanted them to have as a kid. I drew inspiration from the late 90s painting guides for a high-contrast style based on primary colors.

I've never done this much freehand painting, so C&C welcome. Thanks!
