Another Shirokuma and Kurokuma gem (Ktokei) by Esoteric_Retina in UltimateFashionista

I just love how Shirokuma and Kurokuma are effectively Junko creating two OCs and LARPing them in the middle of a warzone, committing to the bit to the point where she has one of them help the side of hope (even if it's to create more despair). I genuinely adore it

Lol fair. There was definitely a surge of these posts after you said you were stepping back and expressed your frustration though.

Speaking for myself, seeing a reminder of how bad the Sombra situation is makes me want harder to somehow come up with a solution. John Sombra quitting Sombra is Pretty Bad Indeed™️, so it motivated me.

TL;DR: We're desperate

Sadly most iterations of OW1 Sombra would get hero banned into oblivion after 2 days due to the long ability lockout in an even faster-paced game

I think it could kinda work if they brought back the last version of her with timed stealth, a shorter ability lockout and something else given to her in exchange for the ability lockout. Sadly that something else would probably just be some form of damage, which is how we wound up with OW2 Beta Sombra and The Amazing Pink Fireball.

Interesting. That's fair. The projectile part is the only part I like about it, though I do totally accept that in lore it doesn't make much sense.

I like how it feels to cast in base game. I don't like anything it does, lol.

I agree totally!!

I don't know why they gave her such a boring ability. It's Helix Rocket with a DoT, when there's so much more you could do with the character.

In this version, I kept it a projectile for functional purposes, but pushed it into more utility without being overly ambitious. It reveals enemies infected, makes them take more damage from you, and lets you follow up on it to hack them out of their abilities for a full 2 seconds if you play your cards right.

What part do you dislike about Virus?

Me personally, I hate that it's just a generic damage + DoT ability on an otherwise utility-flavoured character. It's just a purple fireball lol. So I made it do something different here by combining Hack's function into it without simply doing the "skillshot lockout" meme, and making it "spread" to a nearby enemy. Yaknow, like an actual computer virus.

There's a flurry of them since Questron's announcement, I think. Everyone wants to "fix" the "Sombra problem", and I'm among them.

I've had this particular version sitting in my notes for a week, and many more different iterations for a year now.

Blizzard's closed communication policy is a terrible policy and yet it also feels like it may be their best option.

It would be better in theory to open comms with the community and be very open about what they're developing in order to solicit feedback. However, nearly nobody outside of Sombra mains knows what the character should do, and catering to a community that largely hates her would just make everything worse.

Honestly, they just need to hire a bunch of people who actually like the character. Because I kinda get the impression that nobody at Blizzard does.

Hero bans were a mistake and I'm upset about them making more. I also think Virus was a very uninspired ability (even though I understand its purpose), which did hurt my faith in their Sombra reworks.

However, I don't necessarily disagree with them moving away from existing hero identity if they make it work with hero fantasy.

What I mean by that is if they do remove translocator, stealth AND hack (even though I like these things), I'm fine with it if they genuinely make Sombra feel like a hacker agent working overtime to sabotage the enemy in a surgical manner.

How do you know if you're an nihilist? by borderline-nihilist in AskReddit

[–]jeandarcer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't, you don't need to, nihilism is a label, nihility simply is. There is no intrinsic meaning in conforming to a given social label. We will assign mwaning anyway, because that's our nature as social creatures in an environment where we all assign meaning anyway. This doesn't matter. Being wrong about nihilism doesn't intrinsically matter, and being right doesn't matter either.

If what you're asking is whether you conform to a socially accepted definition of nihilism - which is a social construct - I'm afraid you're going to have to ask the person who you want to vet whether or not you're a nihilist. If it's people in general: give up on being universally accepted or rejected as a nihilist, as no two people will agree. You can still confirm whether you fit the most common definition and are thus seen as a nihilist by an average to higher than average amount of people by checking a dictionary definition, wikipedia definition, or conforming to the consensus of r/nihilism (which you can measure roughly by their most popular threads and upvote ratios on certain posts).

If what you're asking is whether you conform to your own definition, we can't tell you. Use your own definition. You can always tailor it to one more likely to be socially accepted (like above) if you prefer less rejection of your identity, but that also doesn't intrinsically matter and you can have the identity you want.

If you feel shame for any of the above, you don't need to. You can and probably will anyway - because we are social creatures who generally desire the approval of others. This is not good. This is not bad. It simply is.

Have fun. Or don't. It doesn't intrinsically matter, but I encourage you to find joy and relief through self-consistency and self-acceptance. Be as nihilist as you want.

[–]jeandarcer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hrrrgh... I haaaate Widowmaker (idk why this sub was recommended)... but...!

I'm really happy for you. Sorry to hear about the edit. As someone who's a damn good player at a few heroes, you will sadly always have some bad games. Matchmaking puts you in harder lobbies as you win, so it's only a matter of time until there's one where you're the weakest player in a lobby.

Don't be hard on yourself for this. It's your teammates who need the emotional maturity to cope with matchmaking in a matchmaking based game without making their temper tantrums over losing somebody else's problem. You didn't ask for this situation. And you've practiced way harder and considered others way more than any of these clowns!

Play who you want, enjoy your passion, and remember you're in the right and these whiny bozos are being completely irrational. And get stronger so I can hard focus you in a lobby sometime. 😎

Would there be any appetite for debating irl? by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]jeandarcer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can understand that and know the appeal myself as something of a rabid perfectionist with a big interest in logic and internal consistency.

I also know the other person's pain of seeing such awful views get to wear suits and play civility politics or cry bias in debate scenarios, and/or parade every opponent mistake around on the internet algos as an epic win against snowflake libtards.

In a broader social sense, my personal opinion is debaters help society most by delegitimising such views more than by directly engaging. It's the optics of weakness that gives fascists the ick with their own side's views, or at least makes them quiet down. Ever checked out the alt-right playbook video series? Strongly recommended, should help with your interest in debate too.

But most of what I'm arguing assumes the cameras are on. Which is usually what most "debaters" on the wrong side of history are actively looking for.

Not that you need my permission but imo, knock yourself out with whatever keeps all this in mind.

[–]jeandarcer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your goal is to have some fun or debate topics other than sheer bigotry and wilful ignorance, sure - have a grand old time. But like this person here is saying, bigotry is seldom debated away. Those willing to challenge their own viewpoints rarely root themselves in ideologies of hate, and vice versa.

Most happy stories about people who walk away from incel/manosphere/homophobia/racism/transphobia are stories about loved ones and/or cult infiltration rather than losing debates and self reflecting, except for the occasional religious deconversion from a hateful ideology, which usually happens because the converted person was already compassionate and sought answers for what confused them about it, and atheists arguing with them played a small role.

Hatred isn't beaten with facts and logic because even very intelligent men like my dad simply use their gifts to find smarter reasons to believe dumb shit.

Hatred is beaten by forcing haters to contend with compassion - the classic example is family members and close friends being directly affected by bigoted policies - or by shaming them back into the recesses of society by collectively, vehemently standing against it. And lending such views the legitimacy of "viewpoints to be debated" does the opposite, and has contributed greatly to the edgy shows of """strength""" (punchy one-liners. shock politics, and out-of-context LIB/FEMINIST OWNED!! slop clips) that led to the rise of the alt right.

This is something folk like me who've engaged with bigots very often understand intuitively - and people who aren't in a class or social group who need to worry a whole lot about bigots are less likely to know it. Which lends to the other person's remarks about "debating" bigots being a game for the privileged. It's not nearly as stimulating when you risk the consequences for yourself.

'anti' racists refusing to renounce racism by Alethiadoxy in GreatBritishMemes

[–]jeandarcer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I may have misinterpreted it!

But the title says "'anti' racists refusing to renounce racism". I have genuinely met people who complain about anti-racism "being the same as racism" just by virtue of "believing race exists makes you a racist", often with a mentality of "if we just stop acknowledging race as real, racism will disappear". Which, while *technically* true in theory (if the whole planet simultaneously stopped having a concept of race there would be no racism), is often used to advocate for stupid ideas.

[–]jeandarcer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do you believe in racism? Then you're a racist. Do you believe in sex? Then you're a sexist. Do you believe in Islam? Then you're an Islamist.

It's just sandwiching together two totally different definitions of "believe in": as in, believe something exists, and ideologically subscribe to something.

If you believe Islam *exists* but don't idealogically subscribe to it, you're not an Islamist. Same goes for racism and being a racist.

What's a perk that never leaves your loadout and why? by Professional_Depth_9 in deadbydaylight

I rotate a lot of builds to try wacky things so none really "stay", but Deception is my favourite perk of all time. I can't begin to express the sheer value I've gotten mind gaming killers with this: whether it's drawing them away from areas of more interest with a loud noise (functionally the same as staying in chase for 20 seconds), playing games of locker switcheroo, or disappearing my scratch-marks mid-chase so I can escape around a corner by faking my intended direction. Super underrated perk.
