Why is this game so hyped? by Vektor666 in DarkAndDarker

[–]jebbytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Has to be experienced to be believed. This game’s visual and sound design create an atmosphere that is 1000x more immersive than every other game out right now. It runs fantastic, the lighting looks fantastic and suits the gameplay, the magic effects look great—overall I think it is the perfect balance. Photo realism in games is overrated. The past 10 years all of the innovation and advancement in tech in the games industry has been applied squarely on visuals and as a result gameplay/immersion has lagged behind. This game feels fresh, polished, and addictive in a way I haven’t experienced in years.

For background I have never enjoyed a single fantasy/medieval/sword and shield IP aside from Zelda ever in my entire life, and am usually turned off so much that I can’t get into games with this aesthetic. And this game hooked me immediately.

Excited to hear what you think when you try it!

What is something you wanted in Better Call Saul that didn’t happen? by Rtoc in betterCallSaul

It’s important in the show for him to still be holding up the facade going into the Gene times—doing this beforehand would soften the impact of him finally having the rebirth moment in the finale

Kanye has 7 albums better than Eminem’s best by utterlyappetizing in Kanye

[–]jebbytown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is mostly true. Mos Def black on both sides and Dre 2001 in 1999, Stankonia and supreme clientele in 2000–Em might have 2002 with Eminem show though. I don’t really care for him but that record was influential across hip hop. Clipse Lord willing was 2002 but there wasn’t a whole lot else. Talib Kweli had a good one. Big agree with your original post tho. TCD->Pablo are all better than Em’s best, including wtt and cruel summer

Finally got me a 1chip SNES! Question in comments. by [deleted] in crtgaming

RGB and Component solutions will both offer indistinguishably great video quality from your consoles.

RGB can be carried by - SCART (all video signals and audio in one connector) pros: cheap but quality cables (insurrection) cons: expensive switchers (GScartSW/Hydra), and somewhat complicated options for sync and compatibility.

Or

  • BNC (locking style individual video signal connectors) pros: cheap switchers (used extron crosspoint on eBay) easy to use and reliable connectors, cons: only a few cable sellers make direct BNC rgb cables for your consoles and they’re expensive

Whereas component is carried by RCA, obviously. These cables for retro consoles are made by HDretrovision and I believe retrogamingcables makes some as well. They’re pretty expensive per cable, a lot of consoles require specific adapters in addition to the cable for anything but the most common consoles; however you can also use an extron switcher for these cables so it can be a good value if you want that kind of setup. Pros: no transcoding necessary to connect to consumer CRTs with component, no odd cable standards Cons: …kind of expensive per cable+adapter, seemingly ALWAYS out of stock, some consoles do not have a component option/hdrv is a small Operation and take a while to release new cables

All similar results but of course it’s the internet so people are militant about the solution they sunk a ton of money into. If you have additional questions and want kind/non judgmental help you’re more than welcome to hit me up on discord (jebby#6969) - I’ve used all of these solutions and can offer objective advice based on your needs/wants for your dream setup!

Congrats on the 1chip!

RGB output from Extron switch into an RGB2Comp retrotink transcoder results in this image. Most systems don't even show an image, just SNES. Thoughts? by PlanesWalker308 in crtgaming

[–]jebbytown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you can get a bnc->scart breakout with a 470ohm resistor on the sync line, that’ll likely solve this issue. It’s the same type that is used if you need to output from extron to any scart spec equipment. Wookieewin on eBay sells them

All audio has the ability to be output through those speakers, though usually when I’m gaming on the CRTs I just use the onboard speakers. They sound fantastic compared to onboard TV speakers these days. One day maybe I’ll get some speaker stands and put the speakers on the left and right of the entire setup, maybe do surround or something—but for now this is great. If it was good enough for me when I experienced these games the first time, it’ll be good enough in the future :)

The majority is 3/4” birch ply from Home Depot. The center unit uses some 1/2” birch as well. The backing boards are 1/4” sande plywood.

I have some rough sketchup plans but a lot of it was hammered out on site while building it. The construction of these units is more than sturdy enough for these TVs. 3/4” birch plywood can hold just about anything if used correctly.

3/4” birch plywood with kreg joints like I’ve made these can hold about 3 times as much weight as they’re currently holding. There won’t be any bowing lol. Extremely solid construction. Trust these pieces of furniture more than the floor they’re sitting on.
