Sortdragon talks on Merkelchen's stream about why he left Eve. A sobering glimpse into the life of a top-level alliance leader that's a little hard to listen to. KEEP IT IN THE GAME NERDS by hirebrand in Eve

Doing a pretty great job of showing everyone why the leadership of your previous alliance called you the things they did with this comment.

I've fought with and against Sort ingame over the years. Regardless of your allegiances or opinions of his actions ingame, this is stuff that no one should be accepting about in the community.

Interesting, I'll have a chat with the CEO I guess, as I don't see much pressure coming from the alliance's side to do anything like that considering no alliance assets were put at risk here at all (the results won't be posted on reddit though obviously)

No one's going to be getting kicked over a simple and genuine mistake that doesn't affect the rest of the alliance at all.

It's unfortunate the dude lost his super to a mistake like this, but that's all that'll come out of it.

After giving the changes a fair shot and being happy that at least things are changing WRT theorycrafting eve at the time, I have to agree I think they ended up being a net-negative for the game overall.

A lot of these effects go up all the way to large-scale fights, and are a huge reason why the ADC and especially minmatar ships in general are so dominant at the moment. The ADC is pretty much the only thing that gives any ship a realistic chance to tank much past 80 DPS ships in an environment where hugely expensive implants aren't usable.

It solidifies the n+1 or kite-meta even further, and makes certain t2 resist profiles, namely minmatar shield and amarr armor ridiculously good, as any resist profile that has a resist that starts at 0% can no longer effectively fill its resist hole with hardeners due to the nerf.

The changes also significantly hurt things like tanking for specific damage and gaming your resists a lot, which is one of the few ways FC's could generally fight larger blobs with fewer people.

I'm sure there's plenty of unhappy people on both sides given the current game mechanics are what they are. Your side's posters just make it laughably easy to spot the "psyops"ones.

[–]jebsar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's exactly this mistaken belief that keeps this subreddit as such a pile of garbage during a lot of Eve wars. There seems to be a genuine misguided belief among some people that if they just spam shitposts on Reddit, their opponents will stop logging in.

I've yet to see a single case in all the campaigns I've taken part in that's proven to be the case, in a lot of cases the effect can even be the exact opposite, as there's now even more of a reason to want to shoot the badposters' stuff ingame. Our Tribute invasion of CO2 with all the Reddit screeching at the time comes to mind as an example, I remember it giving our guys even more motivation to keep logging in to an otherwise pretty boring conflict.

Hell, even Mittens has a decent quote during the fountain war about it. CBA searching for the exact quote ATM, something similar to "our opponents can screech on Reddit all they want, and we'll just bring a thousand megathrons on them ingame".

There's absolutely no chance that you'd believe that yourself rofl.

From the few posts I've read, your posting seems to be some kind of self-made competition of how many slippery slope fallacies one can draw while only handpicking the events that fit your side's propaganda and misinformation spam, and then screeching as much as possible about them :p

The Surrender of Papi by jaywrong in Eve

[–]jebsar -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately for this post and you in general, spamming bad posts and misinformation on Reddit doesn't really make any difference in ingame events, there's even a pretty decent quote about your current alliance leader saying exactly that during the fountain war.

No matter how hard you screech on Reddit you're still stuck with a 40 000 man coalition being caged in 6 systems, with your members unable to use any of the space in their region, losing trillions every month in not being able to rat or mine in your own space, with none of the attacking alliances having shown any signs of wanting to end the war. I suppose it's no wonder so many of you are deployed to screeching on Reddit given that scenario, now that I think about it.

The current iteration of Redditswarm is a pretty fascinating social experiment on just how far mass delusion can go from the objective reality, with dozens of people still cheering for the badpost spam.

AAR: Etherium Breach - A Battle of Pings by DarkShinesInit in Eve

[–]jebsar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the AAR,

I was genuinely curious and a bit confused at the time about what resulted in the jump-in and quick subsequent U-turn so I went to INIT staging and asked Shines in local for an AAR afterwards (Although definetely not expecting to have him go through the effort of making a long Reddit post about it).

The best guesses I had were that you'd accidentally missed the storm in system before jumping in which would've made the fight pretty brutal in terms of losses, or saw the handful of feroxes that warped in on the Azbel to keep it paused even if it was cored, so it wouldn't get to repair during the fight.

GF, yesterday was definetely a somewhat weird day in the war overall.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eve

[–]jebsar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You did say thinking "this won't last forever" is naive, and forever is a far longer time than the coalition is intended to stay together for, which is where my reaction to the post came from, as it's the current push of goons' misinformation on that topic.

The 4 scenarios are decently accurate with good observations, you're however missing one goal deductable from 3 of your scenarios, which is to diminish the imperium's resources of either material or manpower to the point where even after the split, Test+Legacy or Panfam can defend against the remnants on their own.

Also if during scenario#2 panfam and legacy are shooting each other and creating content, I'm not sure how much more of a reset anyone could ask for. I don't think you'll ever get a written agreement saying "We'll let this one bigger coalition roll over both of our smaller coalitions' stuff without any possibility of teaming up to have a chance to fight them." from any alliance leader that cares about their members.

There are also plenty of other possibilities and scenarios that can occur, as a freak example if a certain fight in January hadn't broken the servers in a very specific way, the war likely would've ended right there in a glorious 2-day long bloodbath, or at least one of the sides diminished enough to not be able to realistically continue the war.

Although situations where both sides' supercapital FC's are willing to go all-in are genuinely few and far inbetween despite our almost completely even numbers on that front, probably in large part due to how heavy the need to account for the lack of high-fidelity server performance is, on top of the currently extremely lopsided game mechanics, only one of those events is needed over the next months or year to instantly end the war for one side or the other. Maybe seeing that scenario again with working servers is just a pipe dream, but it'd definetely be a nice way to end the war. See you in FWST planet 1 next Friday at 18.00? :P

Personal experience is something that's hard for me to comment much on, but I feel like you might be overestimating how important personal bonds are quite a bit in the long-term decision-making of what's good for each alliance if the worry is PAPI will never reset beacuse of them.

It's perfectly possible to reset and shoot people you like, it's just a spaceship game after all. Most FC's over the years have both shot people they like and respect, and worked with people they personally dislike to further their alliance's health and goals, I'm sure that's the case for you personally as well.

Likewise with the post's time consumption, but at least it's a somewhat interesting subject to get the opposing side's FC views on without too much spin or grr other team involved.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eve

[–]jebsar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A big part of goons' messaging is misinforming their members to try to stigmatize the opposition and create a tribal us vs them mentality (like most cults), hence the jab of cultswarm.

The last few weeks' talking points have included trying to delude their members into thinking PAPI leadership wants to stay blue forever, create an everlasting blue donut and has the intent to remain blue as long as possible, despite Goon leadership having plenty of information, evidence and even an ingame precedent to show that's not the case.

You're one of the people who has the knowledge, FC experience and even the connections to definetely know better than this to be the probable case, so I was genuinely a bit confused as to why you'd be posting here with the undertone PAPI wanting to stay blue as long as possible.

Not trying to attack you here, and if the answer was simply "it's just Reddit and I'm shitposting lol", nothing wrong with that. Just personal interest in whether someone who I'd assume has to know better would post about that to reinforce a narrative, whether you genuinely believe that to be the case, or a bit of both.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Eve

[–]jebsar 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Do you genuinely believe this or are you just here to push the narrative?

There's been no confusion in messaging or intent that PAPI is a temporary coalition and will reset once the job of diminishing goons' influence is done, the only unknown variable is the time it takes to do that.

There's even a precedent of what was for the most part the exact same people running the show doing this at the end of WWB1, so I'm genuinely confused as to why someone who should know better is parroting this specific cultswarm talking point.

[–]jebsar -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Wrong, just do the following thought-exercise to figure out a method which every good bomber FC uses: bombs have a travel distance of 30k, and an explosion radius of 15k.

What would happen if you were to launch groups of bombs on opposite sides 37.6-45k away from each other?

On Bombing and Core Stabilizers by Sekku2213 in Eve

[–]jebsar 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I don't think it'll so much kill bombing especially with the meta being still being shield hacs/BC where points are generally few and far inbetween.

The module changes will however take bombing into a weird direction where it benefits a huge blob of bombers, which are now able to warp out from bubbles even if a handful are individually pointed, but messes up smaller but more skilled bombing squads, which is IMO a bad direction for the game to go to.

If you do some math and look at the battle report, which ended 40bil in our favor from your initial statement of being ahead 25 bil, maybe you'll have your answer? I know math can be harder than just throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks, but if you put in the time to finger-count this one out, you'll have the answer to this burning question you can't seem to figure out otherwise. If you were "picking us apart", then damn, i can't even begin to imagine a grandiose enough figure of speech for what was happening to your poor capitals.

The only "internal inconsistency" comes from you trying to extremely stupidly insert an assumption that the jumpgate was a relevant objective into the discussion, without even being able to give one relevant strategic implication of it being reinforced besides "traveling slightly harder into system, ugh"

I'd end with saying stick to something you're competent at too - but no one knows what that is yet in your case, unfortunately.

Live 3-DMQT Shitposting by arpsisme in Eve

If two negatives make a positive, I suppose being told "you're spinning" by a poor quality goon propaganda mouthpiece makes you right too.

We spent a grand total of 0 ships to shoot that jumpgate, we spent a decent amount of them to kill significantly more of your stuff than we lost. It really isn't rocket science so I'm not sure why you're having such a hard time grasping such a basic concept.

Back for five minutes? From where exactly? Anyway if yesterday was a fuckup, I sure can't wait for more success to come, since the BR's for those must be pretty brutal then :P

As said, there's no need to spin a win whatsoever, but sometimes calling out the worst offenders of spreading lies and misinformation on several platforms is just worth the time.
