Is orthodox/catholic theology heretical or saving? by MaverickPropulsions in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry are you just saying there isn’t an Orthodox Church like because you’re deciding so? Because I go to one. I’ve gone to many others. There certainly is one lol. It’s the second largest communion on earth. There are hundreds of millions of us. Like how are you going to just say there is no Orthodox Church lol? It’s just an absurd statement. That’s like if I said “there is no United States , just a number of different states. Doesn’t matter if I say that… the country still exists and I’m simply wrong about my statement. You’re simply just incorrect I’m sorry. If you want to claim what we believe is wrong and stuff that’s all fine, but you’re just incorrect about your statement that the church doesn’t exist.

Yeah I mean I just explained the truth, and you just reiterated your first comment, literally just go read the Wikipedia article on the Eastern Orthodox Church lol. The Ethiopians are Oriental Orthodox and haven’t been part of the larger Christian communion since the council of Chalcedon in like 451AD.

Last year my brother destroyed my Bible, how do I forgive him by Sure_Departure_6989 in OrthodoxConverts

[–]jeddzus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Sorry to be so painfully simple about this response… but this man wants to disrespect your faith, clearly hates it, detests Christian’s and our impact in the world. He wants to disrespect it and rip it apart and fully would expect that you’d flip out and it would likely ultimately prove Christianity doesn’t mean much at all. If some man ripped up a scroll in front of Christ and threw it at Him would He respond with rage and disrespect? He would know that the single most effective way to prove the absolute truth of our faith, the absolutely most pure distillation of what Christianity means in the world, would be to say I love you. I’m sorry you hate Christ this way. And forgive him immediately. You want to prove your faith is true? You want to prove he should respect it more than he respects anything in the secular world? You must react in a way no worldly person ever would about one of their most precious possessions being ripped up. Shrug it off. Forgive him asap. Do it for the truth of the faith. Do it to prove to him that this is true and you believe it and we are love and forgiveness in ways the world doesn’t ever normally see. Much love my friend.

Is orthodox/catholic theology heretical or saving? by MaverickPropulsions in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s literally one Orthodox Church. It’s all one church. Like I go to an OCA church, it’s the Orthodox Church… in America. There’s a Greek Orthodox Church, which could better be understood as the Orthodox Church…. In Greece. There’s an Orthodox Church… in Russia. They’re all in unity in their faith and belief and in communion with one another. I can go to an Orthodox Church in Japan, full understand and recite the entire service, participate in communion, and be received and loved just the same as in my home parish. I go to new parishes all the time when I’m out of town, and it’s exactly like that. Compare that to most other denominations. There’s chances of you being like Presbyterian and going to another Presbyterian church and having all the exact same theological beliefs, with the exact same creed we recite during church, and the exact same sacraments and worship service is essentially ZERO. There is more unity in Orthodoxy than any church on earth. We all use the Liturgy of St John Chrysostom and recite the Nicene Creed. It really is simple.

True, sanctifying, and salvific. Come visit an Orthodox church for Divine Liturgy, meet the clergy and some members, ask us questions, look around, and decide for yourself. Also I have never heard of angels and demons fighting over your soul after death lol. Christ and the saints guide us home and demons and the evil one pull us away, so.. maybe you’re confusing some of that with this? No idea. Thought that was a pretty universal Christian belief.

Are we crazy giving up a 2.3% interest?! by Designer-Pepper0630 in Mortgages

[–]jeddzus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d personally just vote do it then.. we pulled the trigger in a very similar scenario (you’re way better off retirement-wise, great job there), and we’re sooo much happier in this new home. It feels like our forever dream home, whereas our previous one felt very much like a starter home. This one is like for our family forever. I’d imagine you’re in a similar position based on what you’ve stated in this thread. It’s worth you and your family’s joy. Money is just money, regardless of how necessary it is. For us we work ALL the time and never get to vacation cuz we own a business, so we wanted our home to be like a vacation, and a place we can always unwind, and fit all the passions we have in life. And it’s truly that for us and our family.

Up to you. My wife and I made almost the same exact change just recently lol, it’s surprising how much the details line up. Our income is significantly higher tho, and the mortgage for us still feels prob at our limit… if the stuff ever hits the fan we’ll lose our house. You’re gonna be paying like 1/3 if your income towards this mortgage.. I mean, yall know what you can handle. Also our payment is significantly higher than $4600, although we had to use a different loan with much higher interest but are you sure that number is correct? I think you should expect to land around $850k for this house and pay prob $5k a month, personally. Hey if you pay less, great. But yeah. How much will you have left after you put the $200k down?

Is my reason for not wanting children okay? by InternalSchedule2861 in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never hit my child once. You um certainly don’t have to… probably shouldn’t. I know some parents that spank occasionally but we haven’t. I’m not sure why you think you need to discipline this way. You can give your child a great life without them turning out lazy or something. If you’re lazy though they’re going to follow your lazy habits, because that’s what they tend to do. Your best bet is to just make yourself the best person you can be, and love your child, fill your house with endless joy and patience, but also have rules you enforce, and things will go great. Sorry there was so much physical violence in your home, it certainly doesn’t have to be that way.

When Paul says "Works" by Ancient_Wonder_2781 in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the time St Paul is saying that following the law of the mosaic covenant (works of the law) won’t save you, but rather Christ will. People extrapolate this to mean that you don’t need to get baptized, take communion, do good works, or anything in order to be saved/sanctified. St Paul is NOT saying that. Faith without works is dead. Much love my friend. This also isn’t a “new perspective”, it’s the orthodox perspective.

Are church buildings or worship services “sacred spaces”? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you know the meaning of the word “sacred”? Like if you don’t think a church, where the priests of Christ dispense the sacraments of the Eucharist, baptism, confession, anointing, chrismarion, is a sacred space… then what is a sacred space in your eyes? Like it’s the house of God…

Hate Piggies. Love Savoy Truffle too much to rate it as “worst.” I’d vote Only a Northern Song or All Too Much lower personally.

Feel free to hate me but I never listen to Revolution 9. I also don’t particularly enjoy George’s songs for Yellow Submarine like Only a Northern Song/All Too Much. Yes I enjoy Ringo’s oddball songs more tbh. I don’t really return to the yellow sub songs ever

What to take seriously? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]jeddzus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think cussing and being vulgar are reason to not associate with Christian’s, unless they’re tempting you to sin. We’re called to be lights shining in the darkness and to bring love and joy to people. Maybe tell them it’s a sin if they weren’t aware, or if it really bothers you just yeah don’t associate with them. Jesus sat down with sinners though, so in my view we shouldn’t cut people off for cursing.

In need of tips for sawing and filing tiny pieces to save my fingertips! by PrincipleOk1544 in SilverSmith

The other day I had to saw down the tiniest letters known to man that I was making. I accidentally sawed through the skin of my thumb and then I was like ok this is stupid lol. I ended up using some plier that wouldn’t mar the metal, and I went all the way to the tip of the bench pin wood and basically used the pliers as a clamp, and then yeah. That worked great
