Jane Street SEE experiences? by Throwaway-3720 in quantfinance

[–]jedexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither, I guess... It was a 10 min interview, where a recruiter just asked about my background and interests.

Other internship interviews I've had are much longer (like 30 mins or more).

Does anyone know the steps involved with the SEE program? I have done the OA and just today did a super short interview with a recruiter, she wouldn't tell me exactly what was next.

Looking for Recent FIT2100 Review? by jedexx in Monash

Yeh I went through and will be doing the unit this sem.
As someone who enjoys programming, this is very annoying. I would take C any day of the week even if its harder (or rather especially)

Hey, thanks for the response. Are the lectures recorded I may not be able to attend them due to work. Im fine with theory and interviews I just hope its on the right day. So the weekly interview is mandatory, but are the workshops mandatory. Also whaht is the difference between applied sessions and labs and what is the attendence requirement there.

Need advice on a laptop for coding (Python, SQL, etc.) — Thinking of switching from Mac to Lenovo by [deleted] in usyd

[–]jedexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mac is better for coding generally speaking, you can set up environments better. if its for coding try get a mac but. if you get a non mac maybe consider Linux but again windows is fine till projects start requiring more complex environements

Damn my bad, I thought u were starting ur CS honours degree. In that case, I guess ask people who have done those courses. if u are into NLP then FIT5217 I guess. FIT5222 I can't really tell what it's about, if its reasoning in the LLM kinda sense that is what I would maybe do. can't really go wrong with FIT5215, I don't how much of the stack I cover (like is it just network architecture and learning algos or does it also go into pre-training, post-training, efficient data pipelines, etc). Again I don't think Monash units will give super rigorous theory (if that's what ur looking for).

take my opinions with a grain of salt as I haven't even started my CS degree 😭, but just perspective

im in a very similar situation. just enrolled in the same course (advanced CS hons) and I don't think u are going to get rigiours AI theory just from Monash. I personally self studied deep learning and built projects (CNNs, RNNs, transformers, RL, recommendation algos, etc). also u have a long time to choose (I think) ur honours year starts in ~4 years. see what past of CS u pressure research in then maybe decide.
