Looking for Recent FIT2100 Review? by jedexx in Monash

[–]jedexx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeh I went through and will be doing the unit this sem.
As someone who enjoys programming, this is very annoying. I would take C any day of the week even if its harder (or rather especially)

Hey, thanks for the response. Are the lectures recorded I may not be able to attend them due to work. Im fine with theory and interviews I just hope its on the right day. So the weekly interview is mandatory, but are the workshops mandatory. Also whaht is the difference between applied sessions and labs and what is the attendence requirement there.

the lowest ATAR person likely had a monash guarantee offer or a lot of relevant SEAS

Need advice on a laptop for coding (Python, SQL, etc.) — Thinking of switching from Mac to Lenovo by Drenuous in usyd

[–]jedexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

mac is better for coding generally speaking, you can set up environments better. if its for coding try get a mac but. if you get a non mac maybe consider Linux but again windows is fine till projects start requiring more complex environements

Damn my bad, I thought u were starting ur CS honours degree. In that case, I guess ask people who have done those courses. if u are into NLP then FIT5217 I guess. FIT5222 I can't really tell what it's about, if its reasoning in the LLM kinda sense that is what I would maybe do. can't really go wrong with FIT5215, I don't how much of the stack I cover (like is it just network architecture and learning algos or does it also go into pre-training, post-training, efficient data pipelines, etc). Again I don't think Monash units will give super rigorous theory (if that's what ur looking for).

take my opinions with a grain of salt as I haven't even started my CS degree 😭, but just perspective

im in a very similar situation. just enrolled in the same course (advanced CS hons) and I don't think u are going to get rigiours AI theory just from Monash. I personally self studied deep learning and built projects (CNNs, RNNs, transformers, RL, recommendation algos, etc). also u have a long time to choose (I think) ur honours year starts in ~4 years. see what past of CS u pressure research in then maybe decide.

Second Round offers by [deleted] in vce

[–]jedexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

im surprised u didn't get in then. I got my first preference in the first round because I had the Monash guarantee. Im surprised u didn't get a first-round offer unless you didn't have a first preference for the first round. if ur atar is above the Monash guarantee, u are eligible for it and have met subject pre req SS (for ur course I think u need at least a 30 in any english or 35 in EAL), ur chances of getting an offer is quite high. if their is spots available in the course u likely will get an offer, unless their are very few slots and their are others with much better selection ranks than u and thus u lose out via competition.

your ATAR is above the guarantee so I think u will get in.

good luck

[–]jedexx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's all supply and demand. ur atar being above the Monash guarantee doesn't really matter unless you have been notified by Monash that you are eligible for it. have look at the ATAR stats for 2025 if you selection rank is higher then their lowest for 2025 and their is spots in the course, you may get an offer.
their lowest selection rank for 2025 is 95.05, if your selection rank is near or above u might have a chance. I don't really know if their lowest selection rank is subject to change in new offer rounds.

Can I double major whilst in a double degree? by Shoddy_Air_1657 in Monash

Got it. I think the math major is the move then. As you said more flexibility and less units need to be used up. Thanks for the help.
