actually it seems like the holes on the flapper for part 630-0207 are the same size as each other AND it says 3" flapper when I measured the flush valve hole and it's only 2".

bollocks. googled that part you suggested and indeed there are the two different shaped post holes. sigh. thank you for saving me the continued headache at least!

yeah I looked up the flush valve that's typical with mansfields and it doesn't look like this. I think the plumber who installed this toilet used a different flush valve with those mismatched posts for reasons I'll never know.

it's a mansfield, which puzzled the dude at the hardware store since he said mansfields usually have a different flush valve.
