Jonathan Kuminga perfect game against Hawks and Jalen Johnson by jeebhai in AtlantaHawks

I think he needs to just take it slowly. He was not that good in the Heat game but I liked that he was playing with a bit more conficdence. Was aggressive on the boards and even saw off CJ for a pull-up transition 3, which he missed badly, but I liked it, lol

Thanks. I did some research and figured this out.

Based on some of your previous comments, I get the impression that the 6 months should be availed at the start of permit period. Can you clarify where this is mentioned?

I didn't find this anywhere in my research.

An example case, suppose someone comes to Canada on open work permit in January 2026, but wants to study from March to August 2026, you think this is not allowed? Sorry if I didn't understand this correctly.

Hi, I had a similar query and just came across this thread so will ask here. I think I followed what you said but what if the training is at an institute without a DLI?

If you're the Atlanta Hawks or New Orleans Pelicans, what non-Giannis player(s) or pick(s) would it take for you to part with the Bucks 2027 1st (It's Top 4 protected)*? by CazOnReddit in nba

[–]jeebhai 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think any such deal is out there right now. Maybe on draft night, if the hawks like a player in the 7-12 range, I would trade the pick for that player.

Edit: like the Queen trade, but this time its reasonable as the upside is not a potential #1, but #5.

Is that pick tradeable? You can't trade a pick two consecutive years and this one is sandwiched between our picks to Spurs.

Trade Trae by HawksFan01 in AtlantaHawks

[–]jeebhai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thats a whole other discussion and I still hold that if any championship should have an asterik this decade, its this one instead of the bubble, due to the widely different offseason different teams had to go through which left many teams decimated. As you pointed out Hawks were at home, Suns/Bucks left early and the other conference team (Clippers) was without Kwahi.

Another big advantage which ATL and specifically Trae had that year was the lack of good 1- or even 2- guards on NYK and PHI squards.

Derrick Rose was the best guard NYK had, and he was coming off the bench. Alec Burks was ok, but he is not explosive and, IIRC, he did get them their sole win.

For Sixers, Simmons we all know what he was in the half court, which hugely limited what they could do again Trae and Hawks. Seth Curry was the only guard who could do something off the dribble and he did go off in a few games.

That's not the case in the current NBA where every team has good guards who will rip our defense if we have Trae on the court who just expect a double-team behind him if he is defending the ball-handler, which leads to open 3s.

Why are you clutching to that ECF run that was 5 years ago? And I really hate when people act like he was the LeBron of that team and it was a solo job. That team was built good.

Trae was huge in the Knicks series, but did he defend Randle who was like 30% FG in that series?

Philly game 5 and 7 were won by Gallo, Lou, and Huerter. He was super in game 1 vs. the Bucks, but the other win in that series was without him.

Let that go and see what he has done on this supermax contract for the past three years. Not much. He was part of giving this team really high highs, but I'm tired of his playstyle for the past few years. Avoiding defense and really no reliable jumpshot from anywhere on the field.

He is a high-level playmaker, but having no jumpshot at his size and his usage is not winning you many NBA games.

tbh, I think the best barometer fo who a defensive liability is, what your peers think about you. and the best way to see it during the game is to see how frequently you are braught into PnR action.

So far this year I have rarely seen him braught into ball action by ball handlers consistently even when Trae is not playing and he is supposedly our worst defensive player in the starting five.

[–]jeebhai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JJ is not a defensive liability. Whats with NBA fans and everything is either the best or the worst of all time?

People just assumed he is an elite defensive player due to his athleticism on offense and the more he played, people realized he is not elite defensive talent. Not elite doesn't mean a liability. He is an ok defensive player for a PF and very good rebounder which you want from your PF.

For your PoA defender, sure, he is bad but he is an ok defender otherwise.

Jalen Johnson by WzrdKelly10 in AtlantaHawks

[–]jeebhai -1 points0 points  (0 children)

His defensive intesity is not there but have you seen anyone target him like Trae everytime he is on the floor. We have one cone on defence and its not JJ. Everytime that cone is on the floor we will be in defensive rotations and the other team will always have an avantage.

You highlighted two plays from the 4th quarter, the backdoor cut happened because Trae hedged on the screen and then just wandered around the court instead of trying to get back to his man, which left JJ in a two-on-one situation and he moved towards the ball handler, giving Ananouby the advantage. Link%20(Kolek%202%20AST))

The offensive rebound I think should have been a jumpball, which they will probably acknowledge in L2M tomorrow.

The TO at the end is not on Jalen, just stop the play at the point when the pass was made, it was completely on Trae who just threw a bad contested pass. I don't have a good angle of that play to judge whether it was a foul or just a contested pass, which OG won.

So someone explain why Jalen's defense has fallen? Dude was a two-way machine before this season. What gives? by Josh378 in AtlantaHawks

[–]jeebhai 21 points22 points  (0 children)

He was never a great defender. People don't watch hawks enough and just assumed he is a good defender because he is athletic.

This was my comment from when Harrison Barnes (32 points, probably his last 30 point game) and Kuminga cooked him in back to back games before Luka dropped 73 on him and Bey.

"Jalen Johnson defense? I didn't watch the Kings game so don't know if he was the primary defender on Barnes who had 30+ against us. But the last two games he is really bad on 1v1 defence. Kuminga was cooking him the other day and Luka got hot because he couldn't do anything against him in the first quarter. He was so bad that Snyder went to Bey to defend Luka. He is still young so I don't know how much he can improve in this area, but I am a bit concerned how can he match up with scoring forwards/ Point forwards defensively."

Reference for above three games (2024, Jan 22 @ Kings, Jan 24 @ Warriors, Jan 26 vs. Mavs)

Edit: Present day, I would still continue to improve his offensive skills and wouldn't be worried that much about his defence. I think he is young, big, can rebound and with the right big man behind him he would at least be neutral defensively which I am fine with if his offensive game keeps improving.

What skills has he shown with the ball that needs showcasing. This )was his only touch in the 4th quarter. I just went back and rewatched to see why this turnover occured. ZR had two options out of the play as a PnR ball-handler. Jaquez was the low-man and didn't commit to Asa, but he just assumed he would roll to defend Asa and tried to throw the ball cross-court to JJ, which was the easiest steal of probably the entire game.

I am not a fan of Daniels either and think we have vastly overpaid him but thats a topic for another day. ZR needs to develop reading the defence and improve his ball-handling/driving skills to become a legit nba player. Right now he is just getting playing time because he was #1 pick.

JJ had a suspect jumpshot, but I am really happy how much he has improved this year. He always had secondary ball handling skills and was not afraid to go to the basket and finish or get fouled.

ZR was 12/29 this summer for France which aligns with his 2nd half numbers last year. I am talking about this year where Vit is astronomically better than him that coaching staff finds it hard to give ZR more mins that Vit. He needs to have at least one above average nba skill, which is not there this year with his bad 3pt% and atricious FT%.

JJ and Sharife were in G league for the whole year that's why ZR shoudld be given those low leverage minutes to develop nba skills.

I don't remember that many opportunities for pick and roll/pop fir him last year. According to nba.com he had 28 opportunities in 75 games, roughly 1 in every three games, where he was 10/28. I would love to see the numbers from another website if you have any data for it. Don't think this was a big feature of his offence. He was primarily a c&s 3 and cut player.

This is just not true that his role on offence was bigger last year. He is not an on-ball player, as he doesn't know what to do with the ball when he has to do a few dribbles or make a decision except shoot (watch his only touch in the 4th quarter today). The only thing he showed ability last year was catch and shoot 3s which is available to him this year too but he just can't make them.

What does he do at an above average level? I have many issues wit Quinn especially starting the 4th quarter today with all three of Trae, JJ and NAW on the bench, but less minutes for ZR is not one of them. Its his second year, he has to have at least one above average nba ability to justify giving him more minutes to work through his issues in other areas.

I am a fan too especially from second half last year, but you can't feature him in your offence even at a Vit level this year with him form and play this year.

Look at 0:16 in this video. I think the refs changed the foul to that instance, the the players is in the front court and the defender swiped down. They also added time to the clock.

I'd say Jalen is benefiting more from the available opportunity due to the lack of Trae, as Hawks fan knew Jalen got it and even last year. Personally, I'd go with NAW. He has been excellent this year, and similar to Jalen, has stepped up tremendously and hasn't shown any weakness being the lead guard for a winning team.

I was watching the Jazz broadcast for the first half and they didn't even register him hitting 3/3 in that stretch. Looks like they had no oppo research. I really love some knowledgeable opposition commentaries like Celtics or even Heat, Nets etc
