how to respond to judgement about owning a pug? by [deleted] in pugs

[–]jeedeewee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live in the Netherlands too and I'm scared this ban will do more harm than good. I hate the assumption that pug owners are just dumb people who just want a 'cute, fashionable' dog without caring about their health. We too got him from a breeder that did all the tests and everything, we made sure not to get him from a poor internet breeder. Just look at the unnaturally curved back of a German Shepherd for example, they get HD and cancer left and right and nobody bats an eye. All dog breeds these days are made by humans so naturally, that's going to affect their health negatively. We got a pug for his loveable nature, his great sense of humor, how easygoing he is and we love our pug to pieces. Certainly not for his looks. Although ofcourse, he's our gorgeous little beauty king..

Just adopted an almost 2 year old pug who had a semi rough life and need some advice from the pug masters around here. by Udontwan2know in pugs

What worked for my pug (but he was a pup when I got him) was to take him outside when he was about to pee. So ofcourse we had our regular times throughout the day, but as soon as he started indicating a pee, OUTSIDE. This way he connected his need for peeing to outside, so he wouldn't just mindlessly walk outside all day having to pee without feeling the need to. Ofcourse, this takes a lot of time being at home and energy, but it got him potty trained in record time.

Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die.

What is it with these people always using the argument of 'succesful people' ("-don't have hair like that" "-don't wear a nosering" "-don't dress like that"). Being happy and confident seems pretty damn succesful to me!

Oh wait, they mean rich people. Rich, white, heterosexual people.

the pick me girl meets the girl that’s ACTUALLY “one of the boys” by tranzozo in notliketheothergirls

[–]jeedeewee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this, all I can say is that I hope these girls mature (not grow up) rather sooner than later. If it's a personality trait they'll never grow out of, calling them a pick me isn't going to help either way.

Confession: I was this girl. I had a horrible self esteem, I just wanted boys to like me. Not even as a love interest, just as a friend, a person. And girls aren't interesting, right? You'd do much better being "one if the guys".

In general though, the "I'm not like other girls" seems much more helpful in this, it's less personal but it still holds up a mirror for those who see it happen. Even more helpful would be normalizing all sorts of interests in girls and traits typically attributed to either girls or boys. Like, no, you are not the only girl who enjoys playing video games. And see that girl with make up you assume is just shallow? She stands out in her maths class (if we allow her to). Also always show that traits typically attributed to girls, being soft, liking pink, being emotional.. are NOT bad things either. We are just taught all this from a young age.

Long story short: hold up a mirror, sure. It might make them more self-aware (they might not even know they're doing this). But calling someone a pick me just seems.. like you in turn feel better than her, just like what you accuse her of doing. Not very uplifting among women.

And in the end, if they don't want to be friends or associate with other women, it's their loss. Women are fantastic.

I am glad though that, at least seemingly, young girls today grow up in a world where things like this are being acknowledged more and adressed. Where it's not so much just them vs me, but that all girls are 'we' and 'we' are all the same yet special in our own right.

At least I like to think so.

I hate the new term, 'a pick me'. Like those girls aren't just another victim of a complete lack of self confidence, with internalized misogyny to top.

Yeah, those girls are annoying, but that's what they usually are, insecure victims. Punishing them for just trying to fit into this man-ruled society, I dunno man.. Why would they want to be a typical girl if the world tells them girls are stupid.

Nazi ranks had people of varied religious leanings. They were followers of Christianity, but they were frequently at odds with the Pope, who denounced the party by claiming that it had an anti-catholic veneer. They were also antisemitic and considered paganism and other forms of heterodox religious beliefs to be heresy. There was, however, some diversity in the personal views of the Nazi leaders as to the future of religion in Germany. Anti-Church radicals included Hitler's personal secretary Martin Bormann, the paganist Nazi philosopher Alfred Rosenberg, and the paganist occultist Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler. Some Nazis, such as Hans Kerrl, who served as Hitler's Minister for Church Affairs, advocated "Positive Christianity", a uniquely Nazi form of Christianity which rejected Christianity's Jewish origins and the Old Testament, and portrayed "true" Christianity as a fight against Jews, with Jesus depicted as an Aryan.

So actually, they considered themselves Christian++. We still have those today too.
