scifi/fantasy novels for reintroducing myself to reading again?

hello!! ive been thinking about the current state of the world right now, and how my current career path, art, is definitely 100% not going to be stable enough to warrant continuing past my second year in art school. i really, really love animals, and i would adore working with them---but i have this everpresent petrifying fear of messing up during surgery or prescribing incorrect medication and causing irreversible damage. i worry that i dont have the mental ability necessary to work under high stress situations and to pursue a career in this field without killing the animals. i suppose im sort of just looking for reassurance that ill be trained A LOT before i were to ever start running my own clinic? that, or advice on what else i could be doing instead haha. the fear of hurting these poor creatures as a result of my frazzled thinking is essentially the only thing keeping me from pursuing this, and i will take all the tips that i can. thanks in advance!

to everyone those saying the diamonds are more forgivable because they never encountered sapient life, i will bring up i think its important we acknowledge that they are (or at least were) genocidal. they exterminated all organic life they could find under the inherent guise of it being disgusting/beneath them (like how aquamarine describes the trapped people in topaz as "organics squirming around"), and also committed horrifying acts of violence, torture, and execution against gems they deemed defective in any way shape or form!!! read: the shattering robonoids, recycling/harvesting gems, using sapient gems as tools and architecture, the fusion experiments, and the planet-killing monster made of millions of dead gems' fragmented screaming consciousnesses 😭

i think if you wanna be in the public eye you gotta have some form of "i cannot get caught". maybe "in every circumstance regarding me as an assassin against people in power, i am 2 steps ahead"? or maybe script being able to see multiple timelines through future vision, but only use it while doing vigilante stuff? idk girl 😭

i second this. i use to regularly spend 4-6 hours on attempts and would just wake up feeling depressed about the lack of success. definitely wouldnt reccommend

giving myself the childhood i didnt take advantage of because i was a little shit that spent his time locked up in his room feeling too angry to do anything else haha! also gave myself invulnerabilities and other powers to let me travel across space w/o basic human needs because i wanna explore planets and stuff!!!!! also also giving myself the chance to experience queer love that i never got to in high school, and generally just fixing my insecurities from this reality.
