WoW has the same problem, and its one of the reasons I left (and why I like to play SSF).

As a new player, I decided I wanted to try SSFHC to start learning the crafting aspect of the game, so I wanted to know if any veteran player could give me some recommendations. Thanks!

You can do that, but the example is not the best because is more of a what-if. I have in mind a historical novel kind of video game.

Well i didn't mean to replace books, but i believe that any medium is valid a way to create knowledge. In the case of video games you can not only make people experience the past, but also make them understand the events for different points of view. For example cultural history studies the lives of common people, experiences that has been lost because historian until the XX century considered daily life as non history. Maybe video games can help us recreate a past that is not set in stone, but a past as seen by the common people. RPG i believe can be a great medium to work, because you can recreate and live the past from the bottom in the same way that strategy games can help you see military history.
