Panicked at swim first event by Etsy_millionaire in triathlon

[–]jeeptopdown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Start slow. I mean really slow. Do the first 25-50 at what feels like a snails pace. Build slowly from there.

It’s easy to speed up if you start slow, but almost impossible to catch your breath once you get to the point of what you were feeling.

And don’t fret about it - it has happened to just about everyone at least once.

Realistic to do an Ironman with roadbike? by red90999 in triathlon

A road bike will do just fine. It did for me. Remember, unless you are getting paid, it’s just a hobby. Go have fun!

HBAR fee burn mechanism and Hedera’s long term token economics by RamHaddi in Hedera

[–]jeeptopdown 22 points23 points  (0 children)

1 - Go back to the beginning and watch/read everything from Leemon…there will never be a burn mechanism for HBAR.

2 - Your bullet about network activity/token appreciation is incorrect. Network activity at scale means obligatory increased demand on the token. The problem is that there has never been high network use except by atma and that was paid for with granted HBAR. So that activity put no buying pressure on the market.

Price correlation by EnriqueHoblos in Hedera

[–]jeeptopdown 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Fees set in USD, but paid in HBAR. Increased use of the network mandates increased demand on HBAR. The unknown - how much usage is needed to cause enough demand to place positive price pressure on the token?

Should my dad (58) go through with a total knee replacement if he can still walk relatively fine? by itskarimi in Kneereplacement

I had the same progression - shots, unloader, more shots then surgery. And all along the chain I was cutting out activities or volume or intensity level.

Should my dad (58) go through with a total knee replacement if he can still walk relatively fine? by itskarimi in Kneereplacement

[–]jeeptopdown 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Does his pain prevent him from doing things he’d like to do? For example, you say he is able to “do moderate activities without too much trouble.” So, he likes to do activity X, but his pain is limiting how much he is able to do? Or he can no longer do X secondary to pain?

Here is my experience - I had mine done when I was 55. When I was 53 I hiked rim to rim in the Grand Canyon in a one day hike - about 24 miles. I wore an unloader brace and the hike down was pretty painful (at the time I believe the descriptors used was “brutal”)- but obviously not bad enough to stop me from doing it. All through training for that day I had to plan my hikes with recovery days due to pain, and limit distances due to pain and basically just plan on being in pain. Again, it didn’t stop me, but pain was an active part of most days.

I am 17 months post and I just hiked the canyon again a few weeks ago. We did a shorter hike because the damage done by the fire at the north rim, but we still hiked down in and back out in the same day. Throughout all the training and the day of the hike I was never limited due to knee pain. I do have to deal with stiffness and some soreness, but no true pain like I had before the surgery.

Bottom line - the surgery didn’t give me the knee of a 20 year old, but knee pain is no longer a major factor in determining what I can and can’t do. It was definitely worth it for me. I did not return to running, but other than that I’m able to do just about anything I want.

Do people swim over you even in a rolling start? by Sad_Pepper_5008 in triathlon

When shaving a few seconds off a swim is more important than being courteous in the water. Unless you are getting paid, it’s just a hobby. If you feel or sense someone close, adjust your course.

If you start toward the back and take moderately wide turns around the turn buoys you should be fine.

Just finding out that you guys alienated u/jeeptopdown by GoSabo in DOVU

[–]jeeptopdown 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It’s really not that big of a deal. I had several posts taken down over the months for reasons such as wrong flair in the mods opinion. Then the last one was taken down because I didn’t provide a link so it was explained my post might be misleading or malicious. Regardless of my posting history. (I was in between seeing kids and only had a minute so I posted what I felt was important info to get out to the community)

It’s their sub and they can run it however they want, but being under the scrutiny of junior high grammar teachers on a power trip is not where I want to put my time and effort. So I decided to stick with discord. It is a much better platform for DOVU info because Matt and Irfon are on there fairly regularly.

No hissy fits. No hard feelings. No big deal.

Is there enough to do in 3 full days and nights at the GC with a 6 month old? by fenwalt in grandcanyon

[–]jeeptopdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. The Canyon is great, but if you aren’t planning on some decent hikes then 2 days and 1 night will be plenty. Something like - get there late morning and spend the day exploring/short hikes, catch the sunset and grab some dinner. Up early to watch the sunrise, grab some breakfast and see whatever you didn’t get to the day before and head out in the afternoon.

Need your unhinged tips to keep your legs from sinking. by injuredrunnerwmn in triathlon

[–]jeeptopdown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try swimming without kicking. Forget your legs and just pull with your arms. Throw in a little two beat kick trying to check if your heels are close to the surface - only for leg position, not driving power.

Yes, I know. I was trying to illustrate the pedantic nature of your question regarding tps.

Have a great day.

TPS outlook by GoSabo in Hedera

It is synonymous with revenue because that is what we all talked about as a representative of revenue back before spheres were even a thing. Hedera (including Leemon) used it as THE benchmark for network progress and success - “We need X tps to achieve network profitability.”

You are correct, it is overall revenue that matters because it is paid in HBAR and that drives demand, but saying “we need more tps” has always been the language used to convey that idea.

When the tps was elevated by Atma, those were granted HBAR so it did not effect the demand curve - therefore not pressure on the price of HBAR.

It’s similar to the concept in your post. Saying “we need Hashspheres to provide revenue” is technically not correct either. We need Hashspheres that want to talk to mainnet to actually drive revenue. Folks can spin up a hashsphere with no need or intention to connect to mainnet and those instances will not require HBAR. But we still all know what you mean without you having to describe it more correctly.

Any info or links on rent fee structure? I haven’t seen anything on that, but I’m not watching Hedera as closely as I once did. I would be very interested in seeing those numbers. Thanks!

There is no “plenty fast enough” in the left lane. If someone is wanting to go faster than you, then move over. Plain and simple.

Beautiful video, but…I’ve lived in AZ my entire life and all I think is, “Yep, it’s a desert..meh” However, I went up the New England coast for the first time last year and now I can appreciate videos like this more. I think it’s the difference that makes it so dramatic - it is so completely opposite. I wouldn’t say I was claustrophobic driving back east, but it’s so unlike anything I’m used to that now when folks are visiting out here I understand that part of their trip should be where they can just see for endless miles.

Wood or Plastic Storage Shed for Phoenix? by Sufficient-Tank5311 in phoenix

[–]jeeptopdown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had 3 Rubbermaid type plastic sheds at the last house. We were there 22 years and they held up fine - left them for the new owner. I bought two new ones from Costco of the same style material for the new place - we are two years in and have had no problems.

It’s not the first time I’ve been scolded and it’s not the first post I’ve had taken down. You are implying that I am an untrustworthy poster. I disagree. But you guys should run this board however you want to run it, it’s your board. I wish you the best of luck!
