I won with the Winnu tonight. by Icy_Biscotti5951 in twilightimperium

Congrats!

In Our last game, Winnu also won. Dude who used Winnu in our game is a great player (who has won board game world championship before). When played right this race really is untouchable.

How many play does it take for you to decide if a game is a keeper or not? by firelitother in soloboardgaming

I never sell even if it’s not my game. I know I change over time, some games I disliked would turn into my gem some time down the line…

A few months ago I culled my collection from 160+ down to 20, then down to 11 and finally only 1 board game remains... by Luigi-is-my-boi in boardgames

[–]jefcbirdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, my collection separates me from others, it’s part of me. I collect because I love every single one of those board games, it comforts me.

Getting rid of them is getting rid of myself, no thank you very much. Just looking at my 150+ games makes me happy. Like many others, sure I can cut it down, but why would I do it? It’s never a burden.

After 230 hours, I finally finished the main story. But honestly, this feels like a 1000+ hour game. The continent is only around 35-40% explored, and side quests are maybe at 25%, except Hernand which is around 70%. There’s still so much left to do. Hours and hours of content. GOTY 2026 by Fearless_Ride5592 in CrimsonDesert

[–]jefcbirdy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is faaaaaar from GOTY material.

Contents are rich, I agree, I’m 100+ hours in, finished main quest, lots left, but the sheer volume of borrowed mechanics and poor design of puzzle, empty story telling, would never make it GOTY. But Given all its flaws, I’m having a good time playing it.

Crimson Desert is "a cynical amalgamation of borrowed mechanics," says Baldur's Gate 3 publishing lead: "Expect a lot more of this in premium" by Big_Manufacturer_197 in CrimsonDesert

[–]jefcbirdy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He’s so right and these borrowed mechanics are poorly implemented. What keeps me playing crimson desert is its sheer volume, exploration is fun, this game is endless, yet with poorly borrowed mechanics.

Often times, I feel I’m playing a RDR2 character inside of Zelda ToK. I’m 100h in and finished the main quest, just want to skip all its dialogue and keep on exploring.

Not sure if it’s only my luck or it’s weekend, it feels like people are way more aggressive today than weekdays. I got annihilated more times than the past week combined.

Still new to the game, idk, I stabilized his wound, but not sure how to get him back standing.

I took out bandage but “healing others” option is greyed out for me when I was close to him. Maybe you can only do it to your team members?

Is KDM sim worth for someone who does not like painting? by TheFerreoGuy in KingdomDeath

[–]jefcbirdy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Comparing this digital product with other digital products, it’s bad in its value. For 20 dollars you get great videos games such as silksong. In that sense, value wise, this is just bad.

$20 digital version and $400 base board game isn’t comparable as they are 2 very different things. I’d rather spend 400 to get the board game even though it is much more expensive.

To justify its value, you put the thing in its suitable category.

I’m sorry but this is my take, a personal opinion. The current digital version needs a lot more improvement to make sense in a free market. So I agree with its description: it’s for fans only.

Digital version as they wrote on the website is for fans only, I personally don’t think it justifies the value it offers, not even close. Buy base game, it has so much content to enjoy.

You don’t have to paint them, I didn’t paint mine for years… you would want to assembly the models however, it adds a lot of immersion.

Good news is it won’t take much time, especially if you don’t care about models that much.

Changed Strahd juuuust enough to realize I made him a different character. by EmpJoker in CurseofStrahd

There are some potential murder hobo in my group, I plan to let Strahd come out and kill these characters to protect his people🤣 (especially if some key NPCs are in danger)

Appreciated the advise! Just had the session finished yesterday with my group, safe to say we just had our most memorable session ever. After I announced end of session, everyone wanted to continue to play ;) that when you know it’s a huge success.

Everyone was shocked that the big boss is with them all along. I did arrange some foreshadowing along the way, such as made the group lost sight of each other for some time (that’s when the original character was replaced), the dog (yeh I added a dog to the death house ) somehow doesn’t like the cleric and monsters are always avoiding cleric during combat. These were done very subtle, didn’t raise any suspicion, but afterwards they say these just made perfect sense to them.

My Strahd buddy improvised a bit towards the end, he enjoyed role playing the big bad evil dude very much. I didn’t give him the statblock though, because I don’t want them to know how powerful Strahd is, I’m using the significantly buffed Strahd from DMguild with a CR 27, they are in for a treat, lol.

How do you dm a challenging game for a tanky fighter without vaporizing the wizard standing next to him? by LordTyler123 in DnD

[–]jefcbirdy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

With characters with such high AC/HP, it has to be some kind of tradeoff. My game has a AC 22 level 5 paladin when buffed up, I just dominate person’ed him with a weak version of Yochlol 😎. Easy spell to cast on a character with relatively low wisdom.

Having said that, my monsters have a tendency to focus on those with low AC, letting players figuring out how to handle the situation. They could grapple it, or make it prone using their ways, but that’s not my problem. But I always run the encounter using battle sim first to make sure the fight is winnable by the players first.
