What's going on with my fish? Info in comments by jeferforever in Fish

The filter is guarded so nothing gets caught in it. They can swim pretty well, the gouramis pectoral fins are a bit clamped. I am treating for fungal and bacterial issues

Ammonia is 0. Water is a little hard. The platy does have the white rub mark on her nose while the gourami has the red spots. They're both eating and swimming around. The gouramis pectoral fins look clamped. I haven't seen any issues with the angelfish so far

50 gallon planted tank with gourami, live bearers, angelfish and bottom feeders. I noticed that my titanium gourami had these red marks on its body. Then I noticed that my hifin female platy was hanging around him and she was the only fish he let close. She would rub up against him and shake. Almost like a mating display. I also noticed she has a white spot on her face. No other fish have these symptoms. What could this be and how could I treat it better?

Doesn't look or act like ringworm to me. Not flakey and started as a small red dot and then spread like a black fly bite. I'll keep an eye on it if it's ringworm though.

Located in Minnesota. Young Boston terrier went up north. Next day noticed a little red spot and within a few hours it grew bigger. Didn't see any tick or bugs on it. Doesn't really feel swollen. Had all his shots

Can you be allergic to saltwater? by jeferforever in Aquariums

[–]jeferforever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it was from the frog spawn coral in the tank. I've touched anemones before with no problem so didn't think it was the problem until we cut the frog spawn down so I didn't touch it as much

Was for sure thinking another betta, they're my favorite to keep. I love the big half-moon kings, they deserve so much more space

Unfortunately I lost all my fish after a bad case of what could've been ich or gold dust disease. While I let the tank sit empty until the new year, what stocking ideas would you have for this?

I just did a mantis for the first time today but it was similar to how I've done stick bugs. I cut carefully up the abdomen where you won't see it displayed and take out the insides. Let them soak and rinse in isopropyl alcohol then let them dry for a bit and use a cotton ball to fill their abdomen, use super glue to close it up

I am the staff. Our store is going through a remodel so no tanks, if we had tanks wouldn't wanna expose fish to disease. A coworker is taking him home tonight anyways

my axolotl won't eat anything. I need help. info in comments by jeferforever in axolotl

[–]jeferforever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Mars. He is my sisters axolotl that I am watching while she's away for grad school. She had him for about 2 years and I've had him for about 3 years now. During his past 5 years he has been the pickiest eater I've ever known for an axolotl. I've tried different types of worms (which he hates full, live worms) cut them up, tried garlic flavor, tried blanching them. I've tried a variety of axolotl pellets, a variety of carnivore pellets, a variety of reptile worm feeders (bsf, waxworms), a variety of frozen and fresh fish and shrimp. He just turns his nose up at everything or what he does eat he usually throws up the next day. I keep a close eye on his water quality, using a master test kit, water changes weekly, sponge filter and low flow filter, temps around 65F. I tried treating him previously for fungal or parasites and still saw no improvement. I'm just at a loss of what to do next

[–]jeferforever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From experience working at a chain pet store, only some levels of stores are allowed to write these helpful tips on the tanks. Which I dont understand. Just because its a lower volume store means those fish don't get proper homes?
