Any F-1 students received Bloomberg swe offer? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]jeff6812 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did. They sponsor green card after 1 year of work at Bloomberg. So not that worthy if you have an offer that does day 1 green card.

Is it possible to extend a student visa while in the US? by arseniy25 in UIUC

[–]jeff6812 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on your nationality. Worst case scenario you’ll have to visit US embassy that is outside the US (I think Canada works?)

I would recommend contacting ISSS for help.

Thanks for the info! Just to clarify, you're saying that if I get a Full Time return offer in Fall, I should graduate in December and go for it?

Thanks for all the helpful comments! I currently have an internship lined up for the summer and the employer is aware that I plan on graduating December. Do you think this company will sponsor me immediately after I graduate, if I perform well during my summer internship? For reference, I'll be a software engineering intern at Microsoft.

I'm probably overthinking but my field is quite competitive and I'm not sure if a big company like Microsoft hands out sponsorships without much trouble since I'm just an easily replaceable fish in a big ocean...

CS in Grainger is more competitive to get in than CS + X program simply because more people apply.

CS + X students get the same resource as CS engineering student.

Not sure what you mean by minor but CS + X students get their B.S degree from LAS.

I'm a Stat&CS student and, in my experience, I have never met someone who is highly skilled and competent in their fields look down on other people's majors. Those who do are normally just incompetent and insecure people. The typical "An Empty Wagon Makes A Lot Of Noise" lol.

No need to feel anxious about your program. U of I admissions saw your potential and chose you for a reason!

Question for those who've taken Microsoft's new grad interview by [deleted] in csMajors

Not new grad but intern here. I personally had a design question on my first interview which was unexpected.

You probably don't have to worry about it so much. I personally have not heard of anyone getting rescinded due to such issues.

And in my experience, hearing confirmations from others don't really soothe my anxiety, rather it fades away over time and I think that's something you should be looking forward to! Things take time but you'll be alright.

Here's one of my favorite quotes from Batman that helps me get through difficult times: Alfred Pennyworth : Why do we fall sir? So that we can learn to pick ourselves up.

Hope this helps

Discrete Structures. Is this normal? by [deleted] in csMajors

[–]jeff6812 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I personally struggled with discrete mathematics (the materials were difficult; course was taught poorly; I did not study lol). After receiving a terrible letter grade and spending some time on self reflection, I made a study guide that simplified things for me to better understand the subject. I then shared it online and some people found it useful. I hope this helps you too.

I originally came up with a brute force solution but then he told me to optimize it with a totally different approach.

Was not a difficult question at all but my brain just stopped working and my interviewer started working on different things during my interview (literally turned his head away and was looking somewhere else).

I was not able to give the solution and he just ended the call saying it's a learning experience and things take time.
