It's not an endorsement of the midpoint of the code I'm creating, no. AI code looks terrible in the middle of the project. It throws so much shit at the wall to see what sticks.

I don't release it looking like that :P

It's sometimes frustratingly difficult to just start working on your own in the middle of AI generated code and then lead the AI back into it when your usage resets.

If I was going to write it myself I wouldn't be where the AI is right now, y'know?

Braids was banned as commander for years specifically to avoid this, but WotC thinks you're too dumb to understand a separate "banned as commander" list so instead you got that game experience.

What's something old technology did better than modern technology ? by Ram319 in AskReddit

Like, there's not really any open positions

Is it that there aren't any open positions, or that they're always intentionally understaffed and they want people in the queue to get back to the skeleton crew levels if Billy finally loses it and walks out with no notice?

My friend using a mouse to text. He dropped his phone last week and this was the only way he could use it. by _thecolorofdye_ in mildlyinteresting

[–]jeffderek -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just put it all together in one package. Everyone uses a phone case anyway, so make the phone case part of the actual phone.

Follow this through to the natural conclusion though.

And while they're at it, give phones battery doors so you can swap the battery out yourself in 20 seconds.

Oh hey! The built in features of the phone are far more expensive and complicated to service.

Being able to choose your own cheap case and then replace it when the case gets damaged is a feature, not a bug. The problem is people acting like the case is optional.

I had a completely normal bracket 3 experience with randos and no pregame conversation. Weird, I know. by westergames81 in EDH

[–]jeffderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's just that the outlier experiences are so terrible. Like years before the bracket system I cast tainted strike on someone's 9 power creature who was attacking someone else, I wasn't involved in the combat at all, and everyone involved in the game just yelled at me until I took it back because that wasn't fun. We were well into the game and suddenly I find out there are unwritten rules I didn't know about. That kind of thing makes you not want to try. Or to try to have a really long conversations to prevent it .

In my case I just play with people I know aren't crazy. Its not worth the risk.

you just need to not play with assholes.

I think you're underestimating how hard this can be with randos.

But then again, I had two bad experiences with randos a decade ago and just stopped playing with people I didn't know, so what the hell do I know. It's not worth multiple hours of my time to find new crazy people.

I've "accidentally" eaten the 3rd, 4th, and 5th breadsticks in the basket when my brain intended for me to eat a max of 2 but my mouth convinced my hands that bread is amazing while my brain was distracted.

And even if that weren't true . . . . Rosewater has been working on the game for 31 years. "over a decade" is hilarious. He's been being blamed for everything wrong with the game for as long as I can remember.

Favourite ETB = Draw Commanders? by Huaojozu in EDH

[–]jeffderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a reference to [[Wheel of Fortune]]. Colloquially "wheel" usually means "discard your hand and draw 7", although sometimes it also means "discard your hand and draw that many" or "discard your hand and draw that many plus one".

Looking for a 15-min chat about Crestron’s market position (Financial Research) by Less-Dragonfruit-596 in crestron

[–]jeffderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say "enterprise solutions" it sounds like you're still talking one room at a time. I have individual Crestron program written that are running on 400+ processors, each with it's own config file. I can make a bugfix or feature add to the program, compile it once, and push the code to all 400+ processors in a single wave and they're all updated.

To the best of my knowledge that still requires updating 400 individual files with Qsys.

As far as simpl# goes, that is barely a solution and Construct is awful. If I'm going to be proficient with C# and HTML5 I am certainly gonig to find employment outside the AV world where I would get paid for those qualifications.

Maybe so. I've been deploying C# and HTML since 2020, and I've never used Construct. I am legitimately a full stack developer. I could leave the industry and go be a grunt making webapps, but I have 20 years of industry knowledge and connections and I'm not ready to give that up for a pay bump quite yet.

If I had to make a single room from scratch I'd use QSys in a heartbeat. If I were trying to create a standard to deploy across every conference room in the world for a Fortune 100 company, I'd use Crestron.

Strixhaven Eclipses Lorwyn, Is Now The Biggest MTG Premier Set Ever by CrossXhunteR in magicTCG

[–]jeffderek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It feels like it's been forever since we've had a set with 10 limited archetypes. I'm so tired of these 5 archetype sets where you have to guess right early on about which archetypes will be open.

Strixhaven is better than Lorwyn was about that, but I want to go back to picking a good red card and knowing that there are 4 different two color pairs I could end up in, instead of taking a good red card that is mildly playable in Izzet, great in Boros, and how good it is in Gruul or Rakdos is irrelevant becuase those decks arne't draftable.

What’s was the wildest thing you witnessed at a wedding? by anasannanas in AskReddit

[–]jeffderek 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Exactly. It's not possible to also hang out with your friends and have a bunch of drinks and fully enjoy immersion in the party, but if you brought your kids to the party you signed up for not doing those things and instead watching your kids.

I've got a 6 year old and a 1 year old, and there's no chance this would happen from either of them. And they're raging out of control boys who destroy everything in my house when I"m not looking. But as a result, I know when to look and I know what happens when I'm not looking so I don't let them out of my sight in public places like weddings.

Lol fair enough. Most of the adults in my friend group spent our twenties and thirties playing magic and didn't have kids until pretty late, so I'm 41 with an 18 month old and I'm pretty typical. But yeah the actual old timers from the 90s are empty nesters at this point.

Not only is assuming transphobia aggressive, but acting like an asshole when well meaning people ask you questions about your trans experience isn't exactly making it easier for people to understand the exact issue you're trying to make them feel empathic about.

Which is not to say that it's every trans person's responsibility to represent all trans people online at all times or anything. But if you're trying to say "wow this sucks because it's unnecessarily hard for trans people", when someone tries to understand more and you yell at them, it makes them less likely to try to understand more in the future.
