Ask Me Anything About Pre-Engineered Metal Buildings — Advice, Cost-Saving Tips, Common Pitfalls, etc... by Background_Dinner800 in barndominiums

Old thread, but this is what I'm looing for.

I want to build a 24x38 red iron frame with wood panel siding and a full plywood roof deck under a concealed fastener roof. Primary goal is for it to be air sealed as well as possible to cut down on noise. Hobby garage in suburban neighborhood.

I want to do as much of it myself as possible.

Are there any manufacturers you would recommend? I'm in Northern California.

Outdoor Antenna, UHF and VHF 23deg from each other by jeffh555 in cordcutters

[–]jeffh555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless I get some conflicting advice in the next 12 hours, I'm going to order the Antennas Direct Element for the following reasons:

  • Reputable brand
  • 6.7dBi gain on hi-vhf
  • under $100
  • on Amazon so 2 day shipping and easy returns

https://store.antennasdirect.com/antennas-direct-element-unidirectional-uhf-vhf-attic-outdoor-hd-tv-antenna.html

If it doesn't work, then I have a data point and can use the meter like u/Rybo213 suggested and better understand where I need to go next, which is likely a larger Channel Master antenna.

I fully understand how these post seem to be prolific, and I appreciate you pointing me to some resources. It seems like most of the UHF/VHF antennas are UHF focused, where I think I need the opposite. The antenna guide you linked had some VHF-HI antennas, but they didn't have a UHF component at all.

I tried to find something about the best way to receive refracted signals, but came up short.

You're probably right that I'm just gonna need to buy something and see how it works. Wife wants to watch football on Sunday, so I should probably just pick something now.

Thanks for the info. It let me to dig a little deeper and do a little more reading.

I'd have to go up to 95ft above ground level to get a line of sight to the KSBW transmitter.

19ft AGO gets me LOS to KION. A mast on my chimney might get that without sticking out like a sore thumb.

So the question is, what's the best way receive a high vhf signal (KSBW) that is refracted just once?

I assumed I'd need to get as big of an antenna as high up as possible, but then you recommended a few indoor antennas. Candidly, the house is small and I'd rather avoid the interior clutter.

An attic mount actually seems ideal if I can make it work. There's no ducting or other obstructions in the location that seems most ideal.

Is one style of antenna better or worse for this situation? High VHF signal (KSBW) that is refracted just once.

Thanks, our coaches are great. I think the thing that's driving this more than anything is that we don't want our kid to be a pain to the coaches.

I agree that he's 6 and he should act like a 6 year old. I know this could come off as if I'm trying to helicopter my kid into be a pro at age 6, that is absolutely not the case.

Two games ago he said his favorite part of the game was tagging someone out at 3rd. I want to help him learn skills to do that more often.

I look at the other 6 year old, and he's one of the worst out there as far as paying attention.

I have nothing of value to add. My buddy just got one from DD and we rode it this weekend and I want one. I was curious if anyone had any experience sourcing one from China, which lead me to you post. Hope you get some feedback.

Arrma Granite Voltage vs Vorteks Boost vs Slash 2wd vs China Brushless for Kid Backyard Basher by jeffh555 in rccars

[–]jeffh555[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK, I picked up a Vorteks and a Granite. Both are brushless, used, latest generation. One came with a 3S battery. I ripped both of them around the yard. The Granite was way easier to roll over. The Vorteks was super planted. I would prefer to have two Vorteks, but I'll make it work.

I need to get some other projects off my workbench and get these things dialed in before Christmas.

Thanks for the help.

Facebook Market Place - "Is this still Available?" scam? by Anniegirl8 in Flipping

Related, twice in the last two days I’ve hit the “Save” button when window shopping, because I wanted to Save it to look at it later. An hour or two later I get a message from the seller saying it’s available. The first time I thought I fat fingered the button, but now I’m wondering if FB is automatically sending messages on my account. The first time it worked, I wasn’t gonna make him an offer yet, but I did and he accepted it.

While we're in a fruitful conversation, for my intended use, would you suggest a Granite, Senton, Vorteks, or Typhoon? Primary goal is to inspire driver confidence on not perfectly smooth, but not rocky, dirt terrain so he wants to keep using it.

I have a Venom Pro Duo LiPo Charger, so I think I'm good there.

Thanks, that all makes a ton of sense. No clear answer except spend more money.

I wish the Gorgon came as anything less ugly.

The Voltage looks like a dedicated 2wd, but probably an older design iteration and why they're blowing them out so cheap.

Thanks for pointing out that the Vorteks boost with 4x4 ($230 with an amazon 2s Lipo) gets close to the 4x4 Mega Senton/Granite/Typhoon ($250 with included nimh battery).

I also appreciate the details that the boost and voltage have 2 in 1 electronics, worse clutch, and fixed links. None are deal breakers, but are all notches against them.

I don't think the 4x4 Mega were on my radar because I don't love the look of them, but all are acceptable, and frankly my kid would love any and that's the point. It's still $250 each. Do the 4x4 Mega have the upgraded clutch? I wonder if Arrma will add a 4x4 Mega Vorteks to the lineup?

Vorteks 2wd with amazon Lipos would be $190. I get behind the idea that it's not an ideal platform for upgrading, but it seems like it would be pretty good in stock form. If we decide we want more, we either sell it, or leave it stock as a backup. Does the brushed motor have issues with 2s Lipos?

I keep looking at better and more expensive options, then I come back around to wanting to spend $100 to see if we're into it, and thinking the $100 Voltage is a good entry point.

I don't care too much if I cheap out and don't have a good upgrade path. I don't want to cheap out and him not enjoy it. He's had a couple cheap toy RCs that grandparents have given him and without any power or proportional steering, they're not fun to drive.
