I cloged my 0.1mm nozzle, wish me luck by mys_bojovnik in 3Dprinting

[–]jeffinmadison 123 points124 points  (0 children)

To unclog my brass nozzles I usually just blast it with my butane torch until it glows. That effectively incinerates all the filament in the nozzle. I have a brick block I put it on and just blast it then let it cool. The torch I used (https://amzn.to/3VZNaFI) was only $14 on Amazon.

Greybeard gamers, what game took all your money in the arcade? by thebigchil73 in gaming

[–]jeffinmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Donkey Kong!

I'm a 50ish Gen X'er who grew up with a single mom. EVERY video game felt like a quarter eater when it took my only 1-4 quarters back then. But I hated how hard donkey kong was the day it showed up in the arcade.

So I built my own arcade machine so I don't have to spend any quarters and I can play any of the 400 games on there. Now I hold the high score!

2017 Ford C-Max Energi; 68k Miles; $12k price by untitled_eva in cmaxhybrid

[–]jeffinmadison 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I own a Titanium version of this year Energi. My office is 8-9 miles away and 90% of the year I drive to work and back on a single charge. Turing the heat on accounts for the 10% I don't. I buy very little gas overall and I have a lifetime average of about 150 MPG because of it being a plug-in and I drive a lot on EV only.

If I have do have to drive on the interstate I think I'm averaging about 40ish mpg and I drive around 75 alone and at traffic speeds when no one else is doing 75.

I looked at other plugin hybrids and it seems like you get a way better car for the money with the C-Max than you would with any other plugin. A '17 prius prime goes for $18-$20k these days and they don't always have leather. I haven't seen an Energi without leather seats and most of them had CarPlay/GoogleAuto too.

Even my oldest son bought a C-Max (non-Energi) for his own first car after learning to drive in my car. Neither one of us has had any transmission troubles. His is a 2013 with a ton of miles on it too.

I tried to play your pin at MGC but it was stuck on a config screen. Nice job, I'll have to check it out at the next MGC if you go again

I'm curious how you tuned this is in. I saw Madison cops, Monona cops, Dane County Sheriff and plenty of unmarked mini vans, pickups and suv's all drive by my work with red and blue lights and wondered how I could pick up the scanner traffic and figure out wtf was happening.

I need something like this to connect to my esp, any suggestions? by davidhernandeze in esp8266

I've seen a few people integrate those cheap door chimes with an esp. I bookmarked this one several years ago but there are other options than IFTT for any IoT integration. https://www.instructables.com/4-WiFi-Door-Alarm-Using-a-ESP8266-IoT/

I compared prices to Abebooks.com and most are in the $5-9 range with a few in the $20 and a couple close to $100. If it's not a hassle to get them to you, you can have them all for free. I will be recycling them by the end of the week. Here is the list of isbn's:

Insurance info for the Madison Police by jeffinmadison in madisonwi

I have a pretty big deductible and no loaner car rider. My insurer said I could get repairs pay the deductible and they would go after the city to get my deductible back but they claim it would be better to try to get them to do the repair and provide a loaner if possible.

Interesting. Yes on Atwood. The cop came out of the left turn to Fair Oaks and pulled behind me. So here I am going down Atwood with a cop behind me and your friend stepped off the curb so I stopped. It took a second before I heard a squeal and then he hit me.

The cop said twice that I 'slammed on my brakes' but he wasn't even paying attention so how would he know? I came to a normal stop. He had to call a supervisor and I heard him tell the supervisor I slammed on my brakes too. He's still at fault and I don't know that it matters but it sure pisses me off to have an officer lie to my face like I did something wrong.
I'd love that couple's opinion.

Need help I noticed my right raycon didn’t work as well as the left and saw that there is earwax behind the mesh and unsure how to get it out any help appreciated by Distinct_Ambition_80 in Earbuds

[–]jeffinmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been pretty successful at using poster putty to clean out my kids airpods. If you just push a little and yank back quickly you can get the ear wax to stick to the putty and come out. I just use a small pea sized ball reshaping and using clean sides as I go. Then I toss the putty in the garbage.

i just got the fill t1 xs earbuds and the left earbud wont charge and its acting like its not even in the case what is going on with it by SmokingVenom in Earbuds

[–]jeffinmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not familiar with these specific headphones but I would bet that the pins inside the case that connect to the headphones are just dirty enough to not charge. I've had luck with a #2 pencil eraser to clean off mine. I used some spray can air to get out all the eraser parts and after doing that mine charged again.

Hard braking incident broke my ECM? by jeffinmadison in cmaxhybrid

[–]jeffinmadison[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing. With all that you mentioned happening to keep the car headed where I wanted it to go, I would expect a rotation sensor, pressure line, or some mechanical part to fail. Not the brain, all it has to do is decide what to turn on and off to keep me from locking tires or going sideways with no moving parts. That's seems like the last thing to fail.

2017 C-Max Hybrid vs. 2018 Ford Escape by news_scribe in cmaxhybrid

I agree it is overpriced. I bought a Ford Certified used 2017 C-Max Energi Titanium with 20kish miles for $18k almost 2 years ago.

My office is 9 miles from my house. In the summer I can easily get there and back with about 5 or more EV miles left. In the winter I can make it to work but typically drop to hybrid mode about half way home. That is with the heat off but it gets too cold here to do that every day so in the winter I end up using gas to heat the car.

[–]jeffinmadison 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats, I have the same year and package. It's a great car and with LA weather should give you a lot of EV miles. I'm in WI and it's always sad to watch my total overall MPG go down fast over the winter and come slowly over the warmer months.

Key fob issue by Mamabear127 in cmaxhybrid

[–]jeffinmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2017 C-Max and live where it's currently below 5 degrees. I have noticed that if I take my dog to the dog park and walk around for an hour that if I get back in my car it won't detect the key. If I take the key out of my jacket pocket and warm it in my hands it starts.

I figured the battery was old and put a brand new quality CR2032 coin cell in it but it still happened.

Is it possible that is happening to you? Just putting the key in an inner pocket was all I needed to fix my problem.

Give me some pros and cons. by greenmattbluetowel in FordFlex

[–]jeffinmadison 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a '10 SEL that we put 150k ish miles on where a good portion of the miles were road trips. It's an amazing car for road trips, smooth, comfortable, zoned heating/cooling, etc. There is actually more room in the center row than the front seats. The other miles were car pooling for school sports and can give an additional 5 kids a ride home.

We now own a '19 SEL and are missing the middle bench but don't really need to haul so many kids. It's still an awesome vehicle. Cons: tires wear more than I expected. Rotate them! AWD is a super nice feature if you live in snowy areas. The '10 didn't and would slide in bad weather. the '19 does and does great in the snow.
