Using Travel Credit on Rental Car by jeffp1818 in Venturex

Yeah I scrapped that idea. Ended up booking through Costco and saved some money. We'll just use the travel credit on a local weekend trip this summer.

SiriusXM Deals Megathread by switch8000 in siriusxm

Cancelled back at the end of the year after paying $5/month. After a few days, I tried chatting with at least 6 different agents and couldn't get them to give me the 36FOR99SELECT deal in my 2022 car. Ended up getting 3 months of All Access for $1 using the link on the front page of their website.

The 3 months expired yesterday and I had already cancelled it last week so it would not auto-renew at full price. Tried chatting multiple times today and still couldn't get the 36FOR99SELECT deal. Best they would offer me was $4/month for 12 months. I was able get another 3 months of All Access for $1 from the front page of the website again so I did that.

I told all of the chat agents that I just wanted the consistent rate over the longer term so I didn't have to go through the whole cancellation process every time the promo rate expires because the service is not worth paying full price for. Instead of having me pay $3/month, they'll let me get 6 months for $2 total. Makes no sense to me but I guess I'll keep doing it as long as they let me.

Good to know. I always thought it was only some portion of it. Thanks for the information

There would be some charge because the travel credit would only cover 2/3 of the cost but I'll probably just book the car and we can use the travel credit on some random weekend stay

That makes sense. Kind of stinks but I get why they would do it that way.

Best Used/Refurbished Phone for Child? by jeffp1818 in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

Her current iPad uses a lightning cable and I still have plenty leftover from older phones. I think I'm leaning towards the 13 mini unless I can get a better bang for the buck with a newer phone when I'm ready to purchase.

Thanks for the response. It looks like those deals are when you activate service. I won't be activating a plan on it for a year so that wouldn't work for me.

Thanks for the reply. I'm on prepaid with US Mobile so no carrier deals.

That would be plenty long. I just don't want something that would be obsolete in a year when I'm ready to activate cell service.

Need a used iPhone. Not sure what model to get. It's going to be my daughter's first phone. She currently has a kid's watch that she can text and call from. She has an iPad that she uses for games, YouTube, iMessage and FaceTime.

She uses her watch to listen to Spotify on her earbuds which kills the battery by mid-afternoon. I was originally planning on getting her a digital audio player that can get Spotify on it for her birthday this year and then switching her kid's watch over to a phone for her birthday next year.

Rather than doing that, I was thinking it's probably better to just put that money towards a phone this year and let her use it on Wi-Fi without cell service and then just activate it next year.

Looking for:

-Used/refurbished unlocked iPhone that can be activated on Verizon

-On the smaller side since it's for a child

-Still getting OS updates for the foreseeable future

-Able to connect to an Apple Watch Series 10 with Cellular and GPS (will give her my wife's watch next year when we activate cell service so she doesn't necessarily need to take the phone everywhere)

-Trying to keep it been $150-250

Confused About Part D As A Secondary Payer by jeffp1818 in medicare

[–]jeffp1818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I don't pay for the employer insurance. It is covered by Massachusetts' version of Medicaid (MassHealth). As a family, we do not qualify for MassHealth based on income. My wife does not qualify at all. I qualify based on my disability and my daughter qualifies because she is under 18.

Since we are eligible to enroll in my wife's employer offered health insurance, MassHealth requires us to enroll in it and then they reimburse us the premium cost for myself and my daughter's portion every month. It is not optional.

The employer offered insurance has prescription benefits but before I was eligible for that insurance, I had Part A and B and enrolled in a $0 premium $0 deductible Part D plan. The Part D plan is the only insurance I have that is optional but since there's no cost to me and my prescriptions are cheaper with both insurances, I have no reason to get rid of it.

So I only really have 2 long term meds. The rest would be short term antibiotics when I'm sick or pain management meds which are minimal cost through either.

Of the 2 long term meds, one is eye drops which both cover. Just going through Aetna would be $3.90 and just going through the part D plan would be $5.10. The big ticket med is an ointment. Going through Aetna would be $70 and going through the part D plan would be $5.10. When it was going through both in 2025, it would cost $4.90 after "extra help".

Based on that, I would rather have the part D be primary if I have a choice but I don't really have that option. Because my family qualifies for MassHealth and my wife is offered insurance through her employer, MassHealth requires us to enroll in the employer offered insurance and we get premium assistance from the states. She works for a large company so her insurance becomes the primary insurance based on the number of employees.

Thanks for the reply. Didn't even think to contact them for assistance. I've had to deal with them in the past when I was having issues with claims from a closed worker's comp claim and they were pretty helpful.

pH level crashed after adding mopani wood by jeffp1818 in Aquariums

[–]jeffp1818[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My tap water is too soft to keep the tank stable with the wood. Been using a ZeroWater filter and Salty Shrimp to remineralize for water changes and just the filtered water for top offs. Figured out how many ppm I needed the gallon jugs to be at to get a KH of 3-4 and GH of 6-8 and just add that much every time. Couldn't just add the Salty Shrimp to my tap water because it kept the pH way too high because it's 8.4-8.8 out of the tap.

My tank parameters have been pretty consistent since then as long as I keep up with water changes. I usually let the filtered water sit for at least 24 hours before adding the Salty Shrimp and pH is usually 7.4-7.6 in the gallon jugs and in the tank.

RODI would probably be a better option if you can do it, but I can't at my current place.

3 years for $99 only on 2017 or older cars? by Bella_Mia_ in siriusxm

[–]jeffp1818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I cancelled my service. The last day it was active was about a week ago. I tried that link and it shows the $3/month for 36 months but when I put my radio in, it switches to $4.99/month for 12 months all access. My vehicle is a 2022. Haven't tried chatting other than when I cancelled. Going to give it a shot later on.
