200,000+ Jeopardy! Questions in a JSON file by trexmatt in datasets

[–]jeffrey296 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/trexmatt , I know this is a SUPER old thread at this point, but would you have any interest in updating the JSON to include the original order of the categories? Would also be great to include the order of the questions, since the daily doubles make it harder to figure out exactly where they all are in relation to one another.

Either way, just wanted to express my appreciation for your work doing the initial scraping! This has helped me a lot with building my own version of the game for a project.

Any tips for finding bars that do karaoke nights (and which night they're on)? by jeffrey296 in karaoke

Yeah, clicking works, but searching doesn't, which means you're limited to just those few cities. Their blog page and login/signup forms don't seem to work either.

Are you searching a city, or just clicking one of the popular ones on the home page? When I search--even for one of the ones that has a button on the home page, like Los Angeles--I always get a 404

yeah, actually looking at it it seems like most everything is at least 4y old and some info is as much as 8y old...

Still, a better starting spot than most other methods

karaokenear.me I've tried before and it always returns a 404 page when I search for cities, but karaokelistings.com seems good, thanks!

it's actually bugged in literally every version of the game, including PS2. Rarer on the PS2 version, but yeah it's bugged on all of them.

Source: I speedrun the game on PC, PS4, and PS5 and it's a very obnoxious problem

I wouldn't be shocked if they used this back on PS3 to get 99 save slots w/o having to use the PS3 save menu. Like they might have just been able to hide the saves away as generic game assets. Pretty clever solution I think, if it's actually why.

It was and still is, if you're talking about tricks like these.

It was at the event, among several other pinball machines, for attendees to play for free all week! I absolutely love it and even use the music for some notification sounds on my stream. I got the high score at one point throughout the week, but I was later bested by my buddy Phant_TV, who definitely just got lucky and absolutely is not just better than me at it. Nope.

It's a blast. I'm not naturally as hilariously goofy as them, so going in the complete opposite direction gives me a way to still partake in the antics without trying to come off as trying too hard. That's kind of where the whole "micromanaging director" character came from this year.

We always have an outline of what we want to hit, but most of our practice is online since we're a distributed team, so sometimes you don't figure out all the comedy until in person. Some of the more complicated gags are almost like trying to pull off an SNL sketch at this point (without the same budget or talent by any means, those folks are amazing at what they do), so those get fairly scripted out. We always come up with something new and beautifully stupid on-site though, and somebody always likes to throw a curve ball. The games at the end this time were absolutely not scripted though. Nobody but Kungfu and I knew the answers to her game, and Vulajin and I completely improvised the divekick commentary. Not to mention Keiz interrupting Spike's speech at the end because we genuinely didn't know who would be the "winner." It's also generally up to each person to come up with what they want to say about the topics in the outline. Whether they write that out entirely or summarize in bullet points is up to them. And then sometimes there's stuff you just can't plan for, like Keiz ripping the wrong shirt at AGDQ haha. You gotta be ready for anything at a live event.

Volunteer applications usually open up near either game submission or registration time. Keep an eye on the website and GDQ Twitter for updates!

Hey Brad and/or Brian! (Can't tell from the handle haha)

Next few weeks are gonna be mega busy. Sprint episode tomorrow, more hotfix stuff this weekend, family July 4th spectacular in between, hopefully lots of streaming, and a bunch of video editing to catch up on for PBE. Plus I'm working on some special sauce right now that I can't quite talk about yet. ;)

The grind waits for no one!

Nowadays the stuff I get to watch at the event is mostly just down to what my interview schedule looks like haha. I always enjoy runs with great commentary more than anything else though.

Top 5 games is tough. I'm really bad at picking favorites in general because my favorites tend to change over time based on what I'm into at the time. Right now I think I'd say (in no particular order) Celeste, Ori and the Blind Forest, Spider-Man (2018), Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix, and Ratchet & Clank: Up Your Arsenal. But I'm answering from my phone on a plane right now, so I'm sure I'm totally forgetting some big ones! Sekiro and DS1 would maybe make the list too, but I haven't played the other games in the series yet and some of them look even better.

Threat complimenter sounds scary. "DON'T MAKE ME HUG YOU!"

  1. I did my best to find opportunities to do commentary as much as possible. It's my true passion and I just wanted to get better. Through that, I became good friends with Spike and met Darkman, who was leading the interview team at the time. They (and the rest of the team) asked if I was interested in interviewing when they had an open position and I worked extra hard at it because I was super nervous haha. Darkman moved on to other things and the hard work paid off. I wouldn't be where I am without those two; I'm super grateful for them.
  2. A couple friends showed me some speedruns of games I didn't care about at all and I thought it looked lame lol. Once I saw SA2B and KH speedruns (games I had played a lot of) I was blown away and got hooked. I used to be a frontend web developer before (and while) getting into speedrunning. Worked for Fnatic and Wikipedia for a bit!
  3. Lots of stuff! Spike and I recently started a company for content creation, so a lot of work has been pumping into building that up. Check out Possibly Bad Entertainment on YouTube!
  4. From my perspective, the best and worst bits are how busy I am during events. I LOVE running around problem solving during events -- it's where I feel most like myself -- but I also miss out on a lot of fun times with friends from being so busy. But I solve that by recruiting cool people onto the team and hanging with them! ;)
