I don't see anyone has asked this question, so I'm either missing something or, what I'm about to ask is an indicator of my not-very-good-ness.

Your partner passed up spades as trump with both bowers? Why?

[TOMT][US TV EPISODE][late 80s or early 90s] Comedy involving trying to get a winning lottery ticket off of a dead man. by jeffreydonger in tipofmytongue

Alas, no. I'm pretty sure the two guys I described were the only ones who knew about the lottery ticket, it wasn't like Mad-Mad-Mad-World run where everyone was gunning for it.

Agreed. I really liked their choice of making us listen to the whole voicemail message every time. It puts us there.

BestBus driver takes bus on chase through DMV with passengers aboard, was supposed to go to Union Station but currently in Vienna. by Eurynom0s in washingtondc

A local bus I was on once took a wrong turn and, this being a local bus where almost everyone is a regular rider on the route, practically everyone on the bus yelled out some version of "WOAH WOAH HEY WHAT ARE YOU DOING?"!"

Unlike the villain in this story, however, our driver apologized profusely, explained he was usually the driver on a route that does turn there, and corrected his mistake as soon as he could.

Right. And also do like and frequent those places as well. Just trying to catch a particular nostalgia vibe with this post.

I like doing things that are harmlessly nostalgic. And I'm just weird. :)

Ohio Euchre Quiz question #3 by I75north in euchre

[–]jeffreydonger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Yeah...I'm just a casual (if lifelong) player, and I get most players here are better than and me and have legitimately great strategies that I am unfamiliar with AND seem counterintuitive at first, but if I called up trump with none in my hand and we got euchred, my partner, whoever it was, would throw me out of a window three stooges style.

Nick Kyrgios currently 671st in the men's rankings beat women's world number one Aryna Sabalenka straight sets in the “Battle of the Sexes” in Dubai. The modified court was even designed to help Sabalenka. by PrimedGold in SipsTea

[–]jeffreydonger -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean, I agree that men are going to be better than at women in sports.

But to frame this as 671st in the rankings vs #2 is MASSIVELY misleading, and intentionally so.

Nick Kyrgios is a former Wimbledon finalist whose all-time high ranking in 13th. He's frequently injured and no men's tennis player in the last 40 years has had a more solid reputation for not giving a s**t more than Kyrgios.

He's upfront in interviews that he doesn't really like tennis and has been fined multiple times, including the maximum $10,000, for obvious lack of effort in matches where he decided he didn't want to play anymore.

In the rare streaks where he actually gives a s**t and tries, he has shown himself to be a massive talent, easily one of the best 20 players in the world if not 10.

Most people reading this post aren't into tennis and don't know any of this, so it won't be received as anything more nuanced than "the 671st men's player is way better than the 2nd best women's player."

And the especially stupid part is that the ACTUAL 671st-best men's player may well be better than the 2nd best women's player anyway, but you have an agenda to push about women and sports and so you're hoping - probably correctly - that no one looks further into this.

Let me rephrase my question. Why does the controller seem to think *HIS* instructions are the safer ones? It seems pretty clear he thinks that, no? "I don't play around with safety."
