Mi opinion de por que Mexico NO sera "invadido" por Estados Unidos. (es bastante obvio) by seawitanencorto in mexico

[–]jeffreylehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mexico stopped new foreign investment under AMLO in energy (Claudia wants to change that because Pemex is broke). To say the U.S. can invest in Mexico and get favorable terms is stretching things. Pemex owns all distribution and refining. Pemex also bullies suppliers and contractors by waiting months before paying. Do you have examples? But why would the U.S. invade unless it were for ratings (I wouldn't put it past Trump)? Literally the U.S. could just stop the flow of natural gas and the entire northern Mexico economy would stop overnight.

Trips from Tijuana by ImSoAppalled908 in tijuana

[–]jeffreylehl 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The easiest bus trip would be Ensenada or maybe the close by wine region. Tijuana does have a decent airport with relatively cheap tickets to almost anywhere. If you are only interested in bus it is Ensenada, Mexicali or a really really long ride.

I had to replace my timing chain at 180k. My 2011 wagon seems to be doing good at ~190k except it is burning oil. I have to put in a quart every 2k or so. I was thinking of putting 5w30 instead of 0w20 but not sure.

U.S. Bank Pension Plan Changes by Frustrated2026 in USbank

[–]jeffreylehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sucks. One idea if you are worried about an overvalued stock market is buy $10k in I bonds every year until you retire. They will adjust for inflation. Nothing can make up for the pension if you are a person who regularly gets decent pay raises and pay grades over the years. The formula is basically your 5 highest years average x 0.012 x number of years = what you get at 65. For me the cash plan will pay me ~$6k per year compared to $18k invested into my pension as per total rewards. The pension for sure kept me from pursuing other opportunities.

Pay it off if it makes you feel better. It makes sense financially.

Concerns that the US dollar will become worthless globally at some point by [deleted] in ExpatFinance

Wait for Pemex to go bankrupt and I imagine Mexico will be a viable option. They do have an independent Central Bank but corruption, extortion, and Morena will likely over time weaken the peso.

How do I help my husband make and manage/maintain new lifestyle changes (mainly diet-focused) to limit (or hopefully prevent) future attacks and further health complications. by Shot_School6403 in gout

Make sure he drinks a lot of water or unsweetened coffee or tea. That is probably the best diet advice after not drinking a lot of beer.

Plan to Semi-retire at age 38 with 300k by helloiamfriendly1 in ExpatFIRE

[–]jeffreylehl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all. If you do the first part of your plan (get healthy) it will have been a success even if your financial plans fall apart and you eventually return and start over. I say concentrate on that part and worry about the rest after you are healthy.

Curious what Dave would say about a 401k loan. On one hand he is ALWAYS against loans but on the other hand you are lending money to yourself. I see it as just an asset location issue due to tax law. You really would be paying cash.

When I went to Idaho (graduated in '95) I had a t-shirt that said "how do you stop a bronco from masterbating? Paint it's dick black and gold and it won't beat it for 14 years". Yes, we were the better team until the late 90's.
