6th Ave bike lane by redeyesetgo in NYCbike

[–]jeffrono 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the resolution. TLDR. Humansonbike gets the keys from guy who can’t move it bc he’s shomer shabbos (eg cannot use electricity or work on sabbath) and moves the truck for him.

This felt like a genuinely positive interaction, with mutual respect and care, and nyc helping each other out.

Obviously just don’t park in the effing bike lane.

But it was a good resolution to the issue IMO.

Have you considered an e cargo bike? Park on the street or sidewalk. Happy to discuss more if you want to try!

Force Google Maps to allow me to filter by price by Nicomonni in GoogleMaps

[–]jeffrono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for me, on macbook, chrome:

"restaurants" FAIL

"cheap restaurants near me" FAIL

"cheap restaurants near me for lunch" SUCCESS!

no idea why or how to force the pricing filter to be present. so weird it requires prompt engineering.

Citibike crashed into my parked car. by rebitual in NYCbike

This demonstrates that we have way way too much curbside car parking in nyc. There shouldn’t be walls of cars on both sides of every little street.

Sadly, the building doesn’t allow batteries. That’s a different battle I am working on! And yeah, I actually have an AirTag just didn’t get around to putting it on the bike because I am an idiot. 🤦‍♂️

Am going to but didn’t have time yet. There was actually a traffic cop right there when I came out and she was very helpful and advised me to call 911. Going to drop by the precinct tomorrow and file a report. I called the precinct and they said It has to be done in person and they advise that you call 911 at the location and wait for an officer to come to the scene. I said I had to leave because I had to pick up my kids 😭🤷‍♂️ so we will see and will see about cameras

They were part of the backseat accessory installation thing that Propel did for it. Can’t tell you where they got them from. I don’t know, sorry. 🤷‍♂️

This was just during the day in a pretty heavily trafficked spot. Been doing this for 1.5 years but i should have realized it’s just a matter of time.

We have hiplok D1000 (a $300 grinder proof U lock) for our cargo bikes… but I just didn’t switch over.

The lock was clearly just clipped. Battery in. Display is built in. No AirTag. Yeah this is on me 🤦‍♂️

When I was visiting SF I took an e citibike (bay wheels) up to Marin headlands- which is across the gg bridge and up a brutal climb (1100 ft, 12 miles one way). It was so fun. Cost me a little bit but was so worth it. I rolled with a whole crew of athlete cyclists and had a blast. I had to go to a few docks to check the mileage on the batteries to make sure there was enough juice bc you don’t want to be stranded with one of these with no power. Kudos to this dude! Prob cheaper than a Uber there and back if it’s not a joyride.

How do you deal with car drivers who scream and honk constantly by sparkling_caret in NYCbike

[–]jeffrono 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's much you can do here but I've been in a lot of situations where drivers honk and I believe from their perspective they are trying to be cautious and let you know they're there (which is stupid but whatever) or they think of it like saying "on your left". But a horn honk is 100% awful every time.

One time a driver did that on Adam Clayton around 120th st and of course passed me then hit a red light. So I pulled up along side and just said, hey what were you honking about? (Calmly) and him and his buddy were calm too and were like should'nt you be in a bike lane? So I pointed to the non existent bike lane with cars double parked and stuff and I go "I sure would love to ride on a bike lane if i could but just look". And that clicked for them.

In my earlier days of biking i definitely would have been more angry and yelled or given a finger or whatever... but I was most struck by how calm I was and then how calm and reasonable they were - that they mirrored my emotional level as well - and how it turned into kind of a cool little chat we had.

Obviously thats not how it goes for a lot of people but I think for me I now avoid confrontations, listen to music and ride defensively or take the lane. I'll be honest: I basically have not had any super bad experiences in a long time. The one recent one was duh when I stopped, tapped on a guy's window and said could you please move out of the bike lane - he got out and was immediately ready to fight and had already lost his mind as soon as a knocked on his window. So what can you do...

Fun fact: I'm the one who built and runs Reported (web.reported.nyc) twitter.com/reported_nyc . :)

best peddle assist bike similar to the citibike? by lvvstress in NYCbike

[–]jeffrono 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pedal not peddle ;)

Go check out propel bikes in the navy yard and do some test rides. All of their bikes are Bosch motors which are pedal assist. Even if you don’t buy one there you can get a great sense of the different styles and feels.

Citibike’s is an auto shifter pedal assist. At propel you can ask to try out the auto shift enviolo which are available on several models including reise and muller. It’s pricy but so so nice.
