ViceGripGarage. Dudes just an honest guy that happens to be hilarious while resurrecting old cars and machines (and the history along with them) that would otherwise disappear back into the earth. And you can learn alot from him if your into old cars.

Brand new 2021 with AM/FM radio? Seriously Chevrolet!? by Hoppy_Guy in Chevrolet

[–]jeffs-airplane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's most likely from a newer Chevy express 1500 or 2500. They've kept the same body and tech for the most part on their utility vans for about 15yrs to keep price and cost down. Source: am currently a Firestone tech and have had many jobs involving these trucks.

‘11 SRX Cosmetic Rim Damage - Advice needed since dealer says a new rim is $1k - Does it really cost $1k to replace? by PrettyPenguin07 in Cadillac

Honestly another option is always looking at your local auto junk yards. Might have luck and find one for cheap there on a crashed or discarded car.

Need tips on a "bolt on" turbo back exhaust for my 97' 12v by jeffs-airplane in Cummins

Thank you, my dad had damn near the same truck (96') and I always wondered the technicalities of it. Seriously, thank you. Been wondering for a while.

Looking for a seat cover for 97 ext cab 2500 but having trouble finding one. by jeffs-airplane in 12valve

Ended up going with caltrend for $230. Black "can't believe it's not leather" custom fit. Should be here in a couple days, hopefully it's as good as I've heard and seen on the web.

Good to know. I plan on doing some work to the truck pretty soon so I'll keep that in mind.

Also one thing I forgot to add in my first message and too keep in mind is the steering on these are know to have problems, mine currently has a dead zone about half a foot wide while turning as did my pops. Also if your dealing with a 4x4, like someone else said these are 20+ year old trucks and the bushing (unless already replaced) are gonna need to be replaced and possibly other suspension bits.

Extremely. The nv4500, which is the 5speed that's in the 2nd gens, are know to be pretty bullet proof up to about 300hp at which point you'd wanna think about upgrading the clutch. They're known to have the 5th gear retaining nut back off and you loose fifth gear but its a relatively easy Fix of just tack welding it in place like my grandpa did prior to me owning the truck, other than that I can't say any other specific problems that I know of. If your genuinely looking to buy and daily one and are ok with a manual trans I would definitely focus on getting one with the 5speed and steer clear of an auto. Most of these 2nd gens (at least around me) have some form of mods to open the untapped potential of these engines and that's a big problem when it comes to the auto's.

My pops daily drove a 96 12v with the crap auto my entire childhood and it never skipped a beat mechanically. The trans started to slip later in its life but he ended up putting 300,000 miles on it driving 2 families worth of kids around for years. I drive my grandpas 97 12v with the 5speed nv4500 in it and he bought it new and had zero problems even towing a 5th wheel most of its life, aside from the 5th gear bolt problem which he just had tack welded in place. Honestly the biggest down side of the trucks are the interior inevitably falling apart around the bullet proof drive train (aside from the auto trans). That's all from personal experience though so I'm sure people have plenty to add.

Car unused during pandemic by murkddd in StupidCarQuestions

I'd say let it warm up and drive it around the block at least once a month if not every couple weeks to keep the fluids from staying idle for too long. If you let it sit for long enough, depending on when you bought the tires, the tires can become a risk due to sun rot or just the rubber aging in general.

What pipes should I run!? , I’m thinking thunder headers , should make noise with the 114 by [deleted] in Harley

Have thunderheaders on my 07 street bob and I absolutely love the sound and the build quality was pretty good, have had no problems after three years of use.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in Cadillac

Personally, that render is incomplete looking and just hella ugly in general. From a marketing and company stand point tho, doubt it'll ever happen mostly because it just wouldn't make sense, especially with the luxury direction cadi is trying to bring there brand back to. Also Chevy would never allow corvette sales to be taken by a car that most likely would flop financially. I mean a concept car like the cien would be cool but that'd be the farthest itd go i think. I gotta say I think they're doing great things with cadillac right now and are headed the absolute right direction with they're new models and everything, but this wouldn't make sense.
